Have you read Atkin's book? Or which low carb plan were you planning to follow?

I don't know about your husband, but if you are going to start this diet, do yourself a favor and commit to at least two weeks straight with no cheating.

Unless you do that, you may not ever understand quite how powerful this diet can be if you stick to it well. I urge you to read the book too.

There is a part in there where Atkins talks about heart disease and makes the point that people have been eating high fat and high protein forever, but that they didn't have any cases of heart disease in this country until about the 1920s. He said that there is a thing he calls a "20 year law". He says that whenever a culture introduces into it a lot of sugar that about 20 years after that heart disease appears.

Guess what became popular about 20 years before the first reported case in this country? Coca Cola. (among other high sugar drinks).

I've read too that soft drinks can leach the calcium out of your bones. Something to think about. I'm trying to influence my kids to drink less soda and more milk lately because of that.

Anyway after your two week committment, you can modify the diet to suit you however you choose, but please at least stick to it that long. Decide after that, what choices you want to make.
