CAD/CALP (Carbohydrate Addicts Plans) is much less restrictive than Atkins or Protein Power. It restricts you to 2 very low carb meals a day plus one "Reward Meal". The bonus is that during the Reward Meal you can have food that otherwise would be deemed to high carb for a standard low carb plan. The meal is to be preceded by 2 cups of salad and has to remain balanced (1 part low carb veg, 1 part low carb meat, 1 part high carb whatever you choose). The Reward Meal must take no more than 1 hour from start to finish.

I follow Atkins 99% of the time. I follow CALP for special occassions (ie birthdays, holidays). This works very well for me as it allows me to control the amount of high carb food that I ingest, and the insulin spike that usually follows.

I do take "vacations" from Atkins from time to time and stick to CALP during those times. I like it pretty well, though if I do it for more than a few days I'm not able to control my carb cravings as easily. Since Atkins does not allow high carb foods, I find that it controls my cravings better.

Diet soda is a personal matter. Some people are stalled by aspartame, which has also been found in some studies to become toxic when it gets hot (think big warehouse storage). Some people switch to Diet Rite and Diet RC soda for this reason as it contains Splenda.

For others, the problem lies in the citric and/or phosphoric acids which are found in all sodas. These too can stall your weight loss. An additional point to be aware of is that phosphoric acid blocks your bodies ability to absorb calcium, and can actually leach the calcium out of your bones. (Another good reason not to let the kids have to much soda pop!)

I can usually drink diet coke without problems as long as I still get in all of my water. It varies by individual. You'll need to try using it and cutting it out to see whether it affects you or not.

I have no problems at all with sweet tea. My SO is from Texas and drinks 2 gallons of it a day. I switched him over to decaf tea and liquid saccharin, and he never noticed the difference.
