Women simply don't "bulk up" without steroids. We don't have the right hormones for it. Working with weights will help you burn more calories while resting, or while working out. You WON'T wind up looking like a female body builder believe me.

I once went from 230 to 176 without diet by lifting weights three days a week. I never looked like a female body builder, but I did look good.

Like Shara said, muscle weighs more than fat, so as you build muscle you may not lose weight for awhile but you will still be losing inches. AND you will have more active tissue on your body (muscle instead of fat) so that your metabolism will be reved up, it will become easier to lose over the long haul.

Muscle may hold on to more water for awhile too, so the scale isn't going to be your best indicator of how well you are doing. But buy yourself some cute smaller clothes and keep trying them on. Really soon you will find them fitting.
