Subject: Most of the sauces have sugar and/or cornstarch. If you are going to a place that is not a buffet, you can request meat and vegetables in plain sauce. Tell them no cornstarch, and no sugar. Many places will do this for you.

  • We have made Chinese food at home. Most of the recipes call for about a spoonful of sugar, and maybe a spoonful of cornstarch. (Some have additional sweet sauces). When you figure that a recipe calling for 1 to two tablespoons of corn starch, that serves 4 to 6 people, it isn't too bad. Pick up a chinese cookbook next time you are in a store and see what your favorite dishes contain. That will give you an idea. Most of it is healthy, but some have flour, or sugar or constarch.
