Weighs more than fat, but it is smaller. So if you have a lot of muscle your goal weight could be much higher and you would still look good. Looking good is the goal right? I mean no one is ever going to weigh you and tell you you weigh too much. (Especially if you have a lot of muscle and look great).

Like I read one time, Arnold Schwartzeneger (sp?) is probably over WEIGHT, but certainly not over fat.

Using weights will help you to lose weight. Muscle may hold on to a few more pounds of water, it may even prevent you from losing weight for awhile if you are just starting out, but you WILL be losing fat, you will be gaining muscle at the same time (smaller leaner heavier tissue) so you may not see the scale move but you will see your clothing change.

I know what you mean about going to the gym, a lot of people are embarrassed to go when they are too heavy. But the way I see it, you are DOING something about it so why should anyone mind? I used to go when I weighed 230 some odd pounds, and one other lady said something to me about it, like "I couldn't get myself to go to the gym when I was as heavy as you" (she wasn't that blunt about it but that is what she meant). I told her "How am I ever GOING to get skinny if I don't?" I was soon buying cute workout clothes just like other people (after going awhile).

You might look in the paper, some people sell used weight benches or weight machines (the kind with weights that are lifted with pulleys), for fairly cheap. Excercise equipment is something people think they will use and when they find they don't they sell it off fairly inexpensively.

We bought a Sears floor model once for 300 dollars, and I still use it.
