It sounds like you must have read the new white version of Atkins. I don't recall that contradiction in the version I read, probably a new addition to the book.

The point is you aren't supposed to do stupid things like eat a cube of butter a day (like one lady was doing). You are supposed to be balanced and reasonable about your food choices.

As far as energy, you won't have much at first. BUT after you get through sugar withdrawal, you will find that you have a LOT more energy than you ever did before.

Protein Power explains it this way: It says that your body produces certain enzymes. It only makes the ones you need at any given time. Your body is used to producing the enzymes for processing a lot of carbs. At present you aren't eating a lot of carbs so you have enzymes running around in your system with nothing to do. It does tend to make you feel kinda yucky for awhile.

In a few days though the right enzymes will be produced in your body for dealing with your new way of eating. Things will even out and you will feel great.

Yes five meals a day is fine. Six is fine. Probably better, keeps your energy levels up, keeps your metabolism reved up.

It is VERY normal to feel a little rotten when you first start low carb. It is also very normal to feel WONDERFUL after you have been doing it awhile and have gotten used to it. You should find that you have increased energy, you should experience less depression (if you have been subject to depression), you should get over the cravings, and be able to eat normally (when hungry, not driven by some irresistible force), rather than uncontrollably.

For me I was finding that I was so addicted to carbs, that I often ate one sugary food after another unable to stop, but not gaining much satisfaction from the foods.

At this point I have been essentially low carbing for about two and a half years. My times of feeling rotten are days when I overdo it on carbs, and feel pretty wonderful most of the rest of the time. I work out every other day, and am planning on increasing it to every day. Yes, I have plenty of energy to do this.

Since you only have 15 pounds to lose, your losses may be slower than most of us who are way heavier. Stick to it though and give it a fair chance to work.

Welcome aboard.
