How interesting. You are Egyptian? Amazing. We've had people on here from Canada, England and America, never from Egypt before that I know of. In that case you should really read Protein Power. There is a whole chapter in Protein Power that talks about what foods the ancient Egyptians ate and the state of their health as a result.

It seems that bread was a big one for them, so much so that when their soldiers went to war with Greece the Greeks called them "the bread eaters." Said that a soldier's ration was like 5 pounds of bread a day.

I'm sure if you can get a copy of it you will find it as fascinating as I did.

Essentially on low carb you are allowed all the meat, fish, and eggs that you can handle. Most cheeses are allowed in a somewhat smaller quantity. Green vegetables, like spinach, green beans, lettuce, endive, etc are allowed in fairly decent quantity.

Fats like butter, olive oil, cream, sour cream, nut oils are allowed in nearly unlimited quantities. Fats do not raise insulin levels, are very satisfying to the appetite, and will help you keep from eating carbs.

Things to avoid are sweets, bread, starchy foods like corn, potatoes, dried beans, etc.

Drink LOTS of water, take multivitamins and minerals particularly calcium, potassium, and magnesium.

The protein power website is at http://www.eatprotein.com

Atkins is http://atkinscenter.com/why/index.html

Ignore your mother. Eat enough food to keep hunger away, don't skip meals, you need to eat to keep your metabolism reved up, just eat protein or fats, and ignore the carbs.
