Subject: Our house will be paid off in just over a year and boy, are we going to celebrate!! It'll be nice to have that money every month instead of making a mortgage payment. But since our taxes and insurance are built into our payment, then we have to pay that stuff on our own. But still, can you imagine the mortgage payment on a $400,000 home? In one of the homes we were in, the taxes and specials totaled *over* $9,000.00 a year!! Good grief.
In reply to: Sandy 's message, "Our builders and realtors do this every spring and fall. They pick the examples of the homes they want to showcase and then they have them open to the public for two weekends. Most of the homes these days are *huge* and range in price from the mid $200,000 to almost $500,000. I've never quite understood why anyone needs that much room (formal living, formal dining, library, hearth room, family room, eat in kitchen, full finished basement 4-5 bedrooms, at least 3 full baths and now, we've graduated to 3 car garages as normal) but also, where are they getting the money?" on 6:39:51 am, Tue, 10/23/07
