Happy Tuesday. Not much going on here........just trying to stay cool. The dew point is high, the humidity is higher and it's just all round miserable. But we're supposed to have a cold front come through tonight which will drop our low to the low 60's, which will be a nice change from the mid to lower 70's we've had lately. And our high tomorrow is only supposed to reach 82, instead of being close to 90. Since I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, at least I'll be thankful for the cooler air since I absolutely have to go out. But there's not much else going on here. Hey Sandy..... I'm with you, just trying to stay cool!! Danny was sick with a tummy bug and stayed home yesterday.... I'm just hoping I don't catch it! We've cooled off a bit... heat index is only around 115 instead of 135... but our humidity and dewpoint is in the 80% range.... so it's miserable muggy here too. I hate it!!!!!!! I'm only able to keep the a/c on about 85-86, and have fans running everywhere, but it's still just miserable!!! I cancelled one of my appts. for today cuz I've got a headache and just feel bleck.... So you get those darn heat headaches too, huh? I get 'em and they sure make me miserable. And believe me (and I'm sure YOU know), 85 in the house is ucky warm. Takes away any desire for anything. No food, no love, no sleep. I just want to lay around. So I can't say I blame you for cancelling your appointment for today. I wouldn't go out either. And don't you just love the people who say "But you have fans! Turn them on!" Duh! Fans still only move hot air. I'm so totally with you on this one. I'm too warm, I'm sticky (even with the a/c and the fans going) and I'm cranky. Trying to figure out what to have for dinner is more than I can deal with right now. V, I gotta tell ya this one. When Gerry came home, I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth. He came around the corner to say hello and had this S**t-eating grin on his face. I looked at him and asked "Okay, what's going on?" Then he really smiled and said "I've got to agree with Vicki!" and started laughing. I asked him if he meant the humidity and he said no, he was thinking of the cold sandwiches. When it's this hot and humid, we don't eat big meals. Why turn on the oven or the burners and make the kitchen even hotter than it is, especially with the air on? So yeah, we eat a lot of cold sandwiches, salads, anything that doesn't involve heat to make it. But we both liked your analogy of the hot food making you gag. Boy, we can identify with that!!! Have to say I sure hope our heat breaks soon too...Rick is pretty miserable with it, I'm ok..but Josie is pretty sick....She hadn't eat at all today, so tonight after the sun went down we gave her a couple of biscuits (I buy the ones for smaller dogs, anyway...) after we gave them to her, we left for about a half hour..well I wish you could've seen living room when we got home...she started throwing up right infront of my chair, then she must have paced around and kept throwing up..it was all over our living room rug..... I feel so bad for her....she is resting now, and seems a little better....I am going to put her in her crate for bed tonight....mainly because it's cooler in the basement and I think she'll be more comfortable.....

That is kind of what we are thinking/wondering...if she got into rabbit poop and it made her sick..but now we did figure out she is at least associating her food with getting sick and she won't eat her dog food anymore....but like I said above, she did this to us one other time too and we had to change brands for her....Thank you for asking about her !!! I'm not rubbing it in.........honestly, I'm not. But blessed relief has arrived, at least for a day. The cold front came through about 5 p.m. last evening --- at least that's when the wind direction changed. But it was still hot until about 9 when I noticed that it was cooler outside than inside, even though we still had the a/c going. So we opened windows and turned on the whole house fan. Oh, boy! It smelled and felt so good. All of the cats were in the windows, sniffing like crazy. I even left our bedroom window open last night, which is something I almost never do.........just too easy for someone to come along and crawl in, I guess. It was almost chilly in our room. And it was a gorgeous 65 degrees when I got up. Windows are open, fan is on, the car has been vacuumed out and cleaned and now I'm on my way to take a shower. I'm tired! Headache isn't as bad today tho. Have the house closed up and the a/c on. Even tho it is only dropping the temp about 3 degrees, it feels like heaven! Amazing one even 1 degree can do when you're hot sometimes! I'm picking up a new foster around 10, then coming home for a nap!
As of last evening, Todd had shown some improvement! He was moved to a secure wing cuz the guy who shot him is on the loose and they were worried he'd try to finish the job... sounds like a very unstable individual! He's still in ICU, but the doctors are optimistic now. They said if he continues to improve, he's looking at at least 6 months rehab time... a LOT of damage was done! Don't feel too badly. I didn't have a very good night either. Had one of those "restless leg" episodes and ended up getting up and walking the house. I think I fell asleep about 12:30 and when that alarm went off at 5, I was ready to kill!! No nap today either but at least I'm done with my appointment and all is well. No changes so we're at the status quo, whatever that is. But geez, if I can whine for just a moment, I sure wish my pain medication would work better. Whine, whine. Restless legs was a lot of my problem too, Sandy. Heat really aggrevates the condition for me. I rarely cover my legs at night, even in the winter. Right now we don't even have a top sheet on the bed, and I have a huge shop fan blowing on my legs at night, but it was just too warm and I was too achey. I only slept from about 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. I did get a short nap this afternoon tho. Now I feel like I have a hangover! LOL (NT) -- V~, 4:38:49 pm, Wed, 07/11/07
We're only supposed to reach 81 today, which is just plain beautiful for this time of year and about 10 degrees cooler than normal. So I'm going to take advantage of it and get a few errands taken care of before I head to the doctor's office. I need to drive past our service company's office and pick up a couple of furnace filters and I might try to fit in a haircut if I have the time. Other than that, I'm just glad to be able to give the a/c a much needed and deserved rest, if only for one day. The rest of the week isn't supposed to be too hot but we're heading back up the thermometer and by the weekend, back in the blast furnace. But today??? Nothing coming from Kansas but sighs of relief. I can't sleep...... too hot. It's about 85 outside, so we had opened up the house before we went to bed. I slept for a few hours at least... now I'm just too hot for some reason. I'd turn the A/C back on, but it's really not that much hotter than it would be with it on anyway... and this way we give the coil a break. Oh well...... can you say NAP today?! I'm so sorry for Todd's family V. He and they have my prayers and good thoughts. I'm glad you're a little cooler. I would not be able to handle that heat. Prayers for Todd and his family. That's a tragedy. I would still not be good if my house was 80! We got a stand alone unit for our sunporch and it does a good job. Our a/c didn't quite cool that room and this keeps it very comfortable. It's a Maytag, around 300 bucks. what brand is your a/c? can we help to locate a coil for you?? We cooled off a bit today, got a touch of rain but still too warm for me. Hope you can get those messages back. Oh, wow. You've got a lot happening right now. First of all, prayers for Todd and Sharon. I'll never understand why it seems like these days, everyone thinks they need to settle things with a gun. Have you heard anything further about Todd and his condition? Second, I hope you can get some cool soon. Yesterday, it was still 77 when I got up and our dew point has been running right at 70%, which is miserably muggy. The a/c is on, ceiling fans are running and not many clothes are being worn. But......before we know it, it will be fall so I have hope. I'm just not a summer person. As for your answering machine, wishing you luck. My youngest sister has a message saved from Dad on her answering machine and I keep asking her to please make a copy of it and send it to me. Oh, and while I'm typing, we have an update on Cricket and his stomatitis. We had him into the vet late yesterday for another depo-medrol shot since his mouth was looking like raw hamburger again. This is the second time we've gone to a different vet clinic (the holistic vets that helped treat Holly). Anyway, Dr. Gratton mentioned that they're now doing laser surgery on cats with this condition. They apparently laser down to fresh, healthy mouth tissue and then again, hopefully, this *might* take care of it. Just like the full mouth extraction, it's kind of a crap shoot but it's a good alternative to keeping him on the depo shots every month. It's not cheap but not too terribly expensive. And considering what we've already spent trying to get Cricket some relief, I think we're willing to give it a try. As we've learned, there are no guarantees with this, or any, procedure for this sneaky, underhanded condition but I'd be willing to try it and hope that, this time, Cricket beats the odds. wouldn't that be something if this laser treatment could help Cricket? Were you able to do any research on it?? I know there is so much they can do with lasers now....I'm with you, I think if the Vet feels comfortable with the procedure and he feels Cricket is a good candidate..and you guys can afford it, then yep, I'd probably go for it too.....

What a wonderful day yesterday was!! We had Punkie and Travis, and Ken and Jackie over for hamburgers on the grill and baked beans. Gerry had already set up the fireworks and had them ready to go (fuses located and pulled and all of the fireworks lined up). And our fireworks were spectacular!! We sat outside eating watermelon and grapes while Gerry and Travis had their fun setting everything off. Those two *boys* just love their fireworks. We were already a bit worn out before everyone even got here because Gerry had spent 4 hours at the Am. Legion to take part in their annual July 4th picnic and membership drive. The weather guys had made mention of the possibility thunderstorms moving through in the afternoon in conjunction with a cold front. At 2 p.m., everything still looked fine so I headed for the tub for a soak. When Gerry came home, I asked him to please take care of the birdbaths and feeders so the driveway would have time to dry before the kids got here. He got outside and then came back in, telling me (as I'm soaking in a tub of bubbles) that the tornado sirens were going off. He turned on the TV and there were tornadoes in our county, but north of us. I told him I wasn't moving from the tub so those twisty things had better just stay north. Well, they did and all we got was some rain. But on the east side of town, they got almost 3 inches of rain!! It made for an interesting start to our festivities. From what I've heard, there was no damage from any of the tornadoes or funnels that were spotted and it cooled things off outside so we didn't sweat so badly during fireworks. We need rain! It's hotter than blazes and no rain in the forcast. I worried about fireworks starting fires but haven't heard anything. DID hear about several people killed by fireworks, that is so tragic. I'd have stayed in the tub too! I know what you mean, Denise. It doesn't seem to matter how much rain we get (or don't get) because when it gets this hot, it all dries out anyway. Granted, I'm glad we don't have the flooding that they're showing on the news down in Coffeyville and Fredonia but we could use some rain too. I guess this is one of the hazards of having the kind of job that you do, Raylene. But still, even with the animals that you lose, as a parent, I'd feel better knowing that someone who really, really loved my babies was there when it was their time to go to The Bridge or to take care of them after they'd passed. It's so very hard on you, I know, but I think God put you there for a reason. I only have 2 birds left...... all the others have died out or escaped. My DH left the door open to the aviary one night.... and I lost about 30 birds. One of my foster dogs pulled up a section of the aviary wire..... he only killed one bird, but about 20 others escaped then too. When these 2 go, no more birds for a while......... not till my kitty numbers go down. Thanks for the cool thoughts. I just spent the last hour playing in the sprinklers with the dogs. I heard on the news this morning that Las Vegas hit an all time high of 128 yesterday!! I can't even begin to think of what to do with that kind of heat. But this situation with your a/c is scary. Our a/c and furnace will be 7 years old in November. We had them replaced in November 2000, the week before I had surgery. Vicki, since it's warm (70 when I got up) and extremely humid here today (the air is very hazy, there's fog and the moon had a huge halo around it) I've been thinking of you also. It's going to be another pretty miserable day here again but I was kinda lucky last night. I sent Gerry out with Travis to shop for fireworks and I stayed home and did some hooking. Today is George's Gotcha Day. He came in 6 years ago during the CM get together. Leon was ganged up on about bringing him in and next thing I knew he was indoors! All the cats and dogs, also extra people around didn't deter him at all. He came into the living room, laid down and rubbed all over tha carpet. Didn't appear to notice all the people and pets. Well Rick is home from the dentist....
I guess he does not have a dry-socket afterall.....he said he is healing just fine, and probably the pain was/is due to the site being so large and that there was some food particles stuck in it....So, they flushed it out, and gave him a syringe and a prescription for an anti-bacterial mouth wash....he also said with the size of the hole, it could be up to a month before it is really healed....
Rick and I are both really surprised by this, but Dr. Rice is one of the best (if not the best) in our area, people come from all over to see him, so we trust his opinion...I just hope Rick starts getting some relief..... (NT) -- Kate, 11:28:29 am, Mon, 07/02/07

Good grief, Kate, that sounds like what happened to me (many, many years ago) when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. It was a Friday and I spent the weekend in abject pain, unable to open my mouth enough to even get the pain pills in. I called in sick to work on the following Monday and called the dentist. Same thing........large hole and some "stuff" had gotten stuck in the hole. They cleaned it out while I cried and I was sent home with instructions to rinse, rinse, rinse. I just remember that I was totally miserable for over a week. I did go back to work on that Tuesday but had to take several hours every afternoon to go lay down in the ladies lounge with a heating pad. So I do understand and believe me, Rick has my sympathy and compassion. I hope he feels better quickly.......although for him, it's probably not quickly enough. Lloyd, how utterly beautiful. Since I've always been a Siamese lover, the Balinese have the same kind of coloring and points, which means I'm crazy about them too. And your new babies are gorgeous. How did you manage to come across these two cats? I know you said that the cattery is shutting down but how did you hear about them? I hope you don't have any problems integrating them into your household. But boy, these kitties are so pretty. I do see lots of grooming in your future, though. Heaven knows, with my longhairs (Snowy and Cricket......and also Joey), I think I have a comb permanently attached to my hand. Boy, you *have* had the week from hell, haven't you? I hear you on the sinus infections. The last one I had lasted 5 weeks (along with the headache) because at the time, we didn't have really good health insurance and I wasn't going to go see the doctor and run up a huge bill. These days, though, with double coverage, I'd be ringing the doc's doorbell, insisting on some antibiotics. And poor Harley. I wonder what he got into that gave him such a bad case of the trots? And poor Goose too. You've really had your hands full. Then to add your IBS to the heap and wow! It's no wonder you're overwhelmed. And the a/c is out again?? I'd be hiding in a tub full of cold water and not moving. We haven't gotten near that hot yet this year (that usually comes in August) but already, on the hot days, I strip clothes off after pulling the drapes and turning the ceiling fans on high. And the stickiness is something I just can't deal with. Happy July 1st to all of you!!! It's hard to believe that we're already into July. Wasn't it just last week that it was Christmas??? So far, this weekend has been very quiet. We've had a lot of rain in the past 4-5 days, but nowhere near the rain, and flooding, that's occurred just south of us. This low pressure system has kept us cool too. Yesterday, our high was 68!! Of course, the humidity makes everything feel wet but I can't justify having the air going when it's this cool, even if the humidity is high. But we're beginning to look forward to some sun, even if the weather people are saying that on July 4th, we'll be at 93. Well, okay, it IS July, after all. But yesterday was spent at the kitchen table, playing with my phone, doing some reading and getting the bills paid. Then we had steak and corn on the cob for dinner. Perfect!! We've had a real nice break in the weather...it's been a little cooler and no humidity so it's been really comfortable. Which is a good thing because Rick has been putting in a couple of really rough days...his extraction site had been fine with no pain and very little swelling until Thursday night...then the pain started with a vengence...he has been on a steady regiment of pain pills and Motrin since t hen...he has a check-up on Tuesday and with the meds he is taking the pain is under control....but without it he is miserable. I've been following this closely, as my very good friend is a breeder in CA. If you read thru this bill, it SUCKS! The people who are for it are trying to paint a pretty picture, and in actuality, it's going to wipe out legitimate breeders and the BYBers are still going to fly under the raidar. Plus, they've already proven from another County that HAS implemented the same type of bill, that costs actually went up 93% to maintain animal control, rather than reducing costs. I'm all for spaying/neutering, but I detest BYBers and Puppymillers, but I also think legitimate and reputable breeders are important........ Plus will do nothing for those BYBers except make them WORSE...... getting absolutely NO vet care for their animals out of fear of being caught breeding. I hope this bill fails.......... I also don't agree with the 4 month age limit on spaying/neutering. With my beloved giant breeds, it's been medically proven that early neutering has led to bone cancer. Giant breeds NEED the hormones to regulate their growth plates. If neutered too young.... which most studies are saying is any time under a year of age... the growth plates don't close properly and is causing bone cancer. Since it's not always possible to find a vet familiar with the needs of giant breeds, it would be hard to get them to write you a letter exempting your pup from spay/neuter till a year. What they also aren't telling you, is all exemptions are only until Jan. of 2009. As of that date, your dog will have to be spayed/neutered regardless if any exemptions you may have.... Some states are already trying to slip that in..... and it's not just bully breeds........ Labs, Retrievers, Spaniels, PUGS have even made it to some breed ban lists!!!!! Almost, Kate. We got our address books downloaded, our ringers are set and basically, the rest of the stuff is the way we want it........for now! Gerry went to the "Get It Now" site last night and was amazed at the rings you can download. I think that in the future, we may have to pay for a ringtone or two for him so he can get something for his phone that he really likes. All in all, what we *did* get done wasn't too hard but boy, I can see a person spending hours setting up their phone if they were into the music, videos, all of the special ringtones (including the ring back tones) and all that stuff. It's funny, though, because we just want the best phones possible. The rest is just gravy. But now that we have the new phones, Travis is starting to agitate his mom about getting a cell phone for him. She's eligible for an upgrade in November so she might get him his own phone then. I used to love "getting to know" a new "toy" but as I get older....I ahte those manuals and figuring it all out! I have to get a buch done around here tomorrow so I can take the day Thursday to take 2-3 grandkids to the Zoo. I remember back to those 9 months in 2003-2004 when we lost Squeegee, then my mother, then Holly died and then my dad passed away. I thought I was going to lose it from the grief. Thanks! I passed on condolences. One dog, Jake was just 5 years old. I think sometimes it's a vet issue asn so many don't know mush about diabetes and don't treat it aggressivley enough. Okay, yeah, right! Happy Monday. It's already very warm (we only got down to 74) and it's so humid, you could almost cut it with a knife. The windows are only open long enough to air out the house and then the a/c is going back on. I got a notice Saturday night from Verizon that my phones have been shipped. They gave me the tracking number and everything. Do you have the BlueTooth? If so, what kind do you have? I have the Jabra and I do like it, but I saw one recently that kind of just sets on your ear instead of going into it and thought maybe I'd like that one better..??? I don't use it all of the time, but when I call my Aunt I always do, I can't hold the phone up to my ear for an extended amount of time because of the Raynauds and when I talk to her I'm looking at at least a 45 minute call... I don't have a Bluetooth and really don't think I need one. Punkie has one and uses it, especially when she leaves work to let Travis know that she's on her way. My girlfriend in SC has one too but hers drives me crazy. I get a very pronounced echo from her phone when she's using her Bluetooth and even though she's gone into her Verizon store several times, they just can't get it adjusted correctly to get rid of that echo. Now I do have an earbud headset that we got for free......some kind of a settlement on a class action suit. But it's still sitting on top of the microwave......I've never used it. I've been meaning to post about this for several weeks now. With the end of school this year, Travis starts middle school this fall. And my God, where has the time gone? It's just not possible that he'll be 13 on Halloween and a 7th grader. Anyway, his class put together a DVD, set to music, that shows the kids in his class and how they've grown and changed over the past 7 years. The parents were allowed to submit up to 3 photos of their child during school activities and the like. The ending segment is titled "Look How We've Changed." Of course, Punkie got a copy of this DVD and she gave it to us so we could copy it. Neither one of us (and even Gerry) can watch it without crying. But I got such a kick out of the final picture that Punkie submitted of Travis. Instead of turning in his yearly school picture, she got a picture of Travis holding Topper. Gee, Kate. This is something I DON'T know. I would think, though, that if you changed your number, assuming it was available, you'd have a new activation fee to pay, and that could be very pricey. Customer Service should be working today since the calls go to a call center. If you manage to get through and get an answer to this, let me know what they say. In my case and in my defense, I wasn't that attached to my home phone number and my cell number is very easy to remember, so I think I'll keep it. I've had my own cell for at least 4 years and Gerry's had his cell since............oh, geez, I can't even remember when we first started with Verizon. I think it was 2000. Cute story about this. My alarm goes off every morning at 5 and I usually get up by 5:15. First thing is heading for the bathroom. I just happened to have my phone with me one morning after that disaster with Punkie calling in the middle of the night when Travis was in the hospital. I have one "special ringtone" it's the Linus and Lucy Theme....I just had to have it...and I've got my phone set to ring with this tone for everyone....I've got several pictures on my phone too...it doesn't cost you anything extra to take the pictures and save them on your phone..it only costs when you send t hem to someone....
what I love is I have different pictures come up for different contacts..that way when someone calls me I can look at the picture and know who it is, because if I don't have my glasses on I can't read the number in the little screen very well..but as soon as I see the picture I know who it is!! Yeh, the store can do that. But unfortunately, they now charge $10 to move your contacts list from one phone to the other. Since I've signed up for, and maintained my account, on line, I back up my address book there and it's free. They waive the $1.99 fee as long as I have it on the computer. I can also check my phone calls this way. My bill doesn't include each and every phone call but when they notify me that my bill is available for viewing on line, all of the phone calls are there. In our house, the technology thing is split. We both do TV's, depending on which TV it is........good grief, we have 4 in this house for 2 people!! But he takes care of the DVD/VCR recorders, which I've never figured out. He maintains the computer. I do the phones. My job has lessened since we dropped the land line and passed our cordless phones to Ken, since our 2 handsetted Panasonic was better quality than his Uniden. But I just LOVE playing with new cell phones. I can't help it. And since they're now our only phones, I guess we gotta keep up. I offered him a Blackberry or a Palm Pilot and he said no. But watching how the technology has changed, just in the past few years, is almost scary. Only 15 years ago, cell phones were huge and bulky and only a few people even had them. Now you can text, take pictures and video, access your email and even watch TV. I have a feeling that it won't be too long before cell technology does away with the need for any kind of land line and possibly even a desktop computer!! We'll be able to do all of that stuff, including watching TV, on a cell phone that's no bigger than a credit card. Maybe it's time for me to learn how to text, huh? Had him in for another depo-medrol shot but since my vet was out of town, I took Cricket to a different vet........actually, one of the vets that we'd had Holly to. This vet and his partner are very holistically and Eastern medicine oriented. He did give Cricket the shot but we talked about food, etc. The Innova Evo fits under the "cooling" guidelines he gave me but he wants me to try a distilled water/goldenseal tincture on his mouth 3 times a day. This vet said that it's not important that Cricket drink this tincture but to just *bathe* that corner of his mouth with it. It will never be a quick cure and could take months before we see some improvement. Happy Monday! Last week was rather hectic... but thankfully had a fairly quiet weekend, and boy was that nice! Have a few volunteer complaints to sort thru and work out this week.... nothing too horrid tho... mainly volunteers not getting along and refusing to work together. *rolling eyes here* Callie Anne turned 12 on the 15th, and I was so busy I didn't even remember till late that night! Poor girl! This week will be busy again. We are also going to the Ocean Beach Dog Beach this coming Saturday. A friend of mine with a Dane wants us to come over for a play date, and she said she'd pay for us to rent a van to drive over if we would come... couldn't pass up that opportunity, esp. since we are supposed to hit 116 degree weather by next Monday!!!

Leon was in Bermuda on business. I could have gone but glad I hadn't planned to seeing that I felt so lousy! DIL's sister died of an apparent drug OD on Monday, she was only 29. It's a suspious death so everything is delayed due to coroner and autopsy. Cinnamon has constipation constantly and when I've tried him on a high fiber food, it just makes him that much more constipated. But since the cat food poisonings, I've switched my five over to Innova's Evo. It's expensive but they're worth it. As for you, you're lucky that you don't have more problems with nine cats. Is anyone interested in my Thursday rant? I can't believe this.........just absolutely can't believe it. Punkie called Jim (her ex and Travis's dad) the other day to make sure that when the EOB (explanation of benefits) is sent out for Travis's hospitalization that he'll send it on to her. She had already accessed his insurance company's data base to check on the amount of the claim, etc., which, BTW, turned out to be over $9,000.00. Jim carries Travis on his insurance due to a court order, even though Punkie wanted to carry him on her insurance........you know, just to be sure! (and as of the beginning of this year, she DID add Travis to her insurance --- she doesn't trust Jim). Anyway, when she told him that Travis had been in the hospital and that she needed him to mail her the EOB when it came to him, he never asked how Travis was, what he was in the hospital for, how he was doing now.......NOTHING!! Is it Wednesday? I think so but I'm really not sure. Since we don't play pool during summer session, I tend to lose track of what day it is. I got some wonderful news from my girlfriend the other day (the one who was diagnosed with breast cancer in February). She's getting married in September and she wants me to be a co-matron of honor. Her other close girlfriend, who I know since we've done garage sales together, will be her other matron of honor. The wedding will be small, Western in style and rather casual so there won't be a problem with my shoes, brace and slacks. Sharon (the other matron) doesn't wear dresses either. But Janet (my girlfriend) has a lovely western style dress picked out from Shepler's. I can't believe that she's finally going to get married. Janet was also able to find a perfect wig through one of our salons that caters to cancer patients. I can't say that it looks *exactly* like real hair since it's a bit too glossy but the style and color are perfect for her and look just like the real thing in that area. Her boyfriend is such a gem and although he lives 100 miles west of us, he's been making the drive in for each and every one of her chemotherapy treatments. Bless his heart. More GOOD news!! On the basis of *end of year testing,* Travis will be in advanced and accelerated math when he starts school this fall. It's like an AP course but of course, you can't have AP courses in middle school. Boy, aren't we proud!!! He's got to have gotten his math ability from his mom since he sure didn't get it from me. And since it was only 3 years ago that Punkie got her BA in math, she'll certainly be able to help Travis with his homework if he needs it. Gerry's a whiz at math too since he originally went to college for Chemical Engineering (until the Vietnam war got in the way) but I really struggled with Algebra and Geometry. Hi everyone! I could apologize for hours for my absence but....it's only June and I hate 2007 so far! My heart attack in january wiped that month out. Ice storm in Feb., Leons cancer scare in March and in April the doc switched a med and I basically lost 1/2 of April and most of May to it. Long story but after 2 weeks of taking it I actually thought I was feeling better and then it hit me. I couldn't do anything but lie in bed and my mood swings were evil! Doctors didn't make the connection to the med but I did and getting off it was awful too! I took it for 6 weeks and it took 4 weeks to get it out of my system. I've felt mostly back to normal the past 4 days but still tired. What a mess! I've never felt worse and this was a drug to make me feel better! Well, they had it working on Wednesday, and it died again when I turned it on the next day. They came out again today and took the coil back to the shop to do some welding on it and recharge it. Hopefully that will fix the problem. Today wasn't too awful bad with all the fans going, but tomorrow is supposed to be 100, so I really hope they get my a/c up and running in the morning!!! It sounds like you're having a wonderful vacation with just the right mix of relaxing and doing things that are fun. Living in Kansas, I do miss having that view of the ocean that we had when we were living in the lighthouse. Such beauty all the time. I guess they were thinking that they could make off with the entire bowl and to hell with the tabby that you were feeding. I have that problem with the grackels. Okay, Kate (Kathy), the logical side of me says that it's just a coincidence. If we look hard enough, we can find "meaning" in almost anything. But the emotional side of me says it's definitely a sign. I think I've mentioned here the star that I believe is my Dad looking down on me every morning when I go out for the paper and how I stop and have a short chat with him. And there are a few other things that I feel were just too coincidental regarding my Dad. I suppose it *could* be because I want so desperately for it to be so. There have been many times when I've asked Dad to send me a sign that he's okay, whole and happy now. And.......what *I* consider a sign does come to me. It could be argued that it's just coincidence but I don't want to believe that. It does seem to be a bit "much" that you've always thought of Shasta when you've heard this song and now, yesterday, you hear the same song when you think Abby is leaving this world. Very eerie, indeed. I really think that what's more important here is what YOU believe. Could it be that Shasta was letting you know that she was ready to be reunited with her pal? Or just waiting for Abby? Or maybe Abby was saying a "thank you" to you for coming to her and saying goodbye? I want to believe that our animals, especially, come to us in ways that we can't always know. All we can do is try to be open to what might be called the supernatural and take from it what we can. About two months ago, as I was leaving my doctor's office, I too turned on the radio in the car and heard Alan Jackson singing "Remember When." I came home and "You Tubed" the song and OMG! I'm in love. This song is so wistful and full of longing.......someone even set the song to a montage of scenes from "The Notebook." I sat there and cried. Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and. Travis should be released from the hospital by now (I hope) and they're on their way home. Sorry I didn't call or post last night but it was late when we got home and we had to stop at Punkie's to take care of Lucy, Topper and the parakeets. We were also exhausted. There's still no definitive diagnosis on what Travis had. He sounds good, looks better and woke up ravenously hungry, whereas last night, Punkie had to spoon feed him his soup to get some of it down him. The pediatrician said that he'd love to know what laid Travis out this completely but at this point, they're going with a major gastro-intestinal upset that was so severe, it affected his breathing. But other than that, we just don't know. He's out of summer camp for the rest of the week and Punkie took the next 3 days off work to stay home and rest. When we disconnected our house phone and gave AT&T the long overdue and deserved boot, I upped our Verizon peak minutes to 1400 a month. I'd been watching our phone bills for about 6 months and adding up the long distance minutes, doubling that amount to balance the INcoming long distance and then doubled it again to count for regular calls. We're at mid-month and we've only used about 300 minutes between both of us. So I think I planned well, even if I was on the high side. But I'd rather be high than not have enough and have to pay 40+ cents a minute for an overage. Even with upping our minutes that high, we're still saving money over paying both AT&T and Verizon. I just plain hated AT&T. They'd pulled some sneaky stuff lately and made me mad, whereby I've had very few problems with Verizon since we first started with them so very long ago, and those problems were only for billing errors, which they fixed immediately. We don't get good enough reception here for me to drop the land line. Yuma has a lot of dead areas, and I often have to step outside to hear... which sucks when it's 125 degrees outside. I make calls as quick as possible when that happens! I have Qwest for my land line, and I'm very happy with them. I'd end up paying more for Verizon to up my minutes than I do for Verizon and Qwest every month now... plus I have unlimited long distance on the land line. Some of my volunteers I can only reach via their cell with a long distance number (like service people who keep their home-area numbers), I really need that unlimited long-distance! I do agree with you on that one. I run into that problem with Kate, Gerry's family and my girlfriend in South Carolina. It *would* be nice if they'd follow Cingular's lead and start those night calling minutes at 7 p.m. but I'm not holding my breath. Of course, Cingular/AT&T is the worst carrier in the USA. My youngest sister has them (her hubby arranged for their cell service) and I keep telling her to drop Cingular and go with Verizon. BTW, just a heads up for you.......and this is part of the reason why we were able to go ahead and drop AT&T. Were you aware that AT&T is no longer offering their Unlimited Nationwide long distance to new customers and they're going to be dropping this plan all together in the future? According to what I've read, there's been no date set for them taking away the unlimited long distance but it's coming. That plan was a lifesaver for us when my Dad died and we found out what my older sister had **really** been up to. I mean, I was racking up over 4,000 (yup, that's right......four THOUSAND) minutes of long distance between myself and my two younger sisters in Little Rock and Houston. We never could have paid the bill if we had to pay for each minute......even at 5 cents. But now, with both Mom and Dad being gone, I don't foresee that kind of thing happening again. Wow! I just got a flyer from AT&T offering free nationwide long distance if I switched. I am VERY happy with Qwest tho, so not switching. My cable company offers digital long distance they could add to my bundle (tv and internet) with unlimited long distance in the US and Canada... I'll probably switch to them if Qwest drops the unlimited long distance. I want to keep my same home phone number tho... for sentimental reasons. Oh, Kate, this is horrible. I remember the pictures you used to post so long ago of Abby and Josie together and I know how much you cared for Abby. Such a very sad situation and Abby's so young to have developed cancer already. I remember (vaguely) that you had some problems with Abby's mom (didn't she turn out to be a real jerk?) but still, Abby was a special dog. Since there's apparently nothing that can be done because of the cancer, all I can do is offer prayers and ask that her passing over The Bridge be painless and that Abby goes to her final rest pain free. I went over as soon as I got home from work and here comes Abby to meet me, looking like there is nothing wrong...but then you watch her and listen to her breathing and yes, there is definitely something going on. The vet is 99.99% sure it's lymphoma and it's completely all through her, all her lymph nodes are swollen and her spleen. The took X-rays of her lungs and they are white...just completely full....They gave her a shot of steroids to help her breathe easier and once they get the final test results back they will make the final decison as to when...but Donna said it will be before the weekend....they don't want her to suffer.... Happy Monday! We had such a wonderful weekend. Went out on Saturday to drive to the Indian Reservation for cigarettes and stopped at Sonic for an early dinner on our way home. Then we decided to try the farm supply stores, looking for a different windmill for the yard (the top part of mine keeps breaking and needs some welding). Well, the last place we stopped was in South Topeka, not too far from Heartland Park, where they were holding the NHRA Nationals. Traffic going back into town was terrible. So we decided to take the back roads home and boy, DID WE EVER!! Instead of coming straight home, we drove way out into the country and had a blast! (NT) -- Sandy, 9:14:44 am, Mon, 06/04/07
We drove through several of the small towns that are south and west of us and ended up on a scenic drive that showcases natural stone. It was fantastic. Not only were there several houses made out of native Limestone but there were miles and miles of stacked stone fences. It's amazing how someone can fit those rocks together and 100 years later, those fences are still standing. At one high point on the highway, we were able to see for miles and miles of rolling Kansas Flint Hills. Some weekend when we have more time, I'd love to go back out and make this drive again, especially since we drive through the very small town of Alma, which has it's own creamery and makes cheese that's sold by a lot of the local markets. And fantastic cheese it is! We ended up working our way back to I-70 and coming home that way but all in all, we were gone for about 4 hours. Just a perfect way to spend a perfect day. Sounds so wonderful Sandy. Glad you enjoyed your little road trip. I've been wanting to drive up the coast and finally decided I'd like to visit Solvang. I've never been there. Googled a map for it. Its about 132 miles away which should take about 2 1/2 hours to get there according to the map. Son and I are planning to go there tomorrow. Looking forward to it. Hey guys, our A/C is out, so I'm keeping my computer off so it doesn't overheat, and doesn't add any heat to the house. It's 107 here, so not a very happy camper... it's been out since Saturday. I need MEGA prayers! Punkie called just after 4 a.m. She and Travis have been at the hospital since 10 last night. She thought he was having an asthma attack because he was complaining that his chest hurt but then he started vomiting. No diagnosis yet but Travis' white count is elevated, his small intestine is inflamed and the lymph nodes in his abdomen are enlarged. They're admitting him for observation. Hi, All: Okidoke - then here's my latest one, Item number: 320122396212 And this is Ramona's Davey. I love to paint little dolls, too, so there'll be more of them for the cats to play with!!! As for personal info - I majored in art in college, then went on to become a court reporter for 23 years. I always missed my art and took night classes along the way. Then when my only son was born when I was forty, I retired from court reporting when he was 5 and went back to my art. I got some children's books published that I wrote and/or illustrated and haven't looked back since. I've done several hundred pet portraits, but I needed something to do inbetween portraits. So now I'm enjoying these little minis. And by the looks of things - with all of your **super great** reference photos, I'm able to keep a steady supply coming. My son is now 15 and my hubby and I are enjoying ourselves very much!!! He is a business consultant and works out of the home like I do. So when our son comes home from high school, we're usually both here, so it's a dream come true for me to be at home, do my art, and surround myself with all kinds of happy pet portrait clients!!! Awwww. Davey is so cute. Again, I love what you've done with paint. What a beautiful expression on his face. Now.....let's see. Okay, I guess you and I are the same age but I see that you live in Oregon, whereas I'm in Kansas. I do wish, though, that I had some of your art expertise and knowledge. I'm a rug hooker and usually have a hard time trying to color plan a rug. Oh, sure, once I can see it all together, I know which colors look good but it's just the planning stage that gets to me. I also envy you the court reporting job. Many years ago, I thought about doing that but kind of got sidetracked into other things.
