Just got home from the vet. Ben Eddy got blocked again. Not just his bladder, but his heiny too! They were able to unblock his bladder just by compressing it hard, but he needed 2 enemas and all day to empty his bowels. He's home but we need to keep a close eye on him. One more block and he will need to get that p/u surgery. This couldn't have happened at a worse time. We are so broke! But, Neil does start his job Monday so thats good. Oh, Ramona. Poor Ben Eddy and poor you. I'm glad for you that they were able to get him to urinate by compression but to be that constipated also is the pits. As with me, I see lots and lots of Laxatone in your future. I hope that when Neil starts his job, he's very happy with it and they're happy with him. As for your sinus infection, ouch!! I was too stubborn to go to the doctor the last time I had one and my face hurt for 5 WEEKS!!! I couldn't even bend over because of the pressure. I'm sending prayers and good vibes your way that things straighten up, the money flow starts and you can finally get over this nasty bug you've got. Are you on antibiotics? Posted below too....... I have a HUGE 2-day Adoptoin Fair this coming weekend, and it's kept me pretty busy for the last several days. I'm in charge of getting volunteers to work it, and we need several, as we'll have over 100 dogs and a lot of cats too. Trying to get donations to help us with the event too.... We'll be in the Petsmart parking lot with the dogs (Cats will be inside). We need crates and canopies donated/borrowed, and Danny and I are working on getting fans and a generator donated too, since it is still hot here. Unfortunately, Petsmart HQ dictates when the stores have big adoption events like this, and it's for ALL the stores.... so our weather doesn't factor in..... Good grief, Vicki, I can't imagine being outside in the parking lot when it's that hot out. I hope Petsmart will also provide a hose and running water, and not just for the dogs. If I were outside, I'd want to hose down every 15 minutes or so. I too wish you'd cool off but I guess that's the trade-off for your nicer winters. We got down to 50 again this morning but it's supposed to warm up to 83 or so for today and tomorrow. Then we get another cold front on Friday and our high is supposed to be only 65 with some rain. But with this huge adoption event going on this weekend, I'll have to make sure I stay away from Petsmart. We'll have to get our cat litter on Friday instead of waiting for the weekend. Happy Hump Day!! As usual, since it's Wednesday, I'm tired. We got home really early from pool last night (about 10:10) but we only took 2 matches out of 5. Yep, I played and I won my match. But it was really hot in Terry's last night and I was dripping sweat from my face by the time I dusted off my opponent. Not much going on for the rest of the week. I think I'm going to keep the car on Friday and go for a haircut, since I'm getting fuzzy. And the big CFA cat show is this weekend. No, no more cats for us but we would like to try and stop by to see if we can find another cat tree like the one we bought several years ago. Our tree isn't very tall (about 4 1/2 feet) but it's got a very sturdy, heavy base and won't tip over, which is the #1 criteria for us. The guy that we buy from is from Siloam Springs, Arkansas and he's at all of the cat shows. I hope everybody has a good and cool day. (NT) -- Sandy, 7:15:55 am, Wed, 09/12/07
Although Gerry fell asleep very quickly last night, Joey kept me awake for a long time. She's been very aloof for the past several days so she picked last night to decide she needed lots of extra attention. I no more than got settled in bed and she climbed up my body, standing on my chest to get my T-shirt in her mouth. She nursed for the longest time and then moved down to lay on my stomach and go to sleep. Great for her but she kept me awake until after midnight. She's very put out by Biscuit, since all he wants to do is play and she wants to be left alone. She still hisses and growls at all of the other cats, which I don't really understand since she used to love Snowy and Cricket when we first brought her home. Headaches, Dr.'s appt.'s. housework, pets... just not enough time in the day! Actually when I do get online I've been playing Literati again. It's addicting. Anyway, love the leather furniture, cleaned today and didn't have to vacuum the couch! Vacuuming the furniture always took longer than doing the floor so that was great! Been to docs, I finally asked if my neck/headache crud could have anything to do with arthritis in my neck....yep, so we are trying Ibuprfen 3 times a day to start, I really don't want another med anyway! I agree......not enough time in the day to get everything done. I hope you can get some relief from the ibuprofen for your headaches. I used to live on Advil until I went to the prescription anti-inflamatories but I can't say that I'm getting that much more relief. Glad to hear you love your new furniture but with leather (which I would love to have), how do you cope with kitty claws and doggie toenails? I keep most of my furniture covered with old towels or throws but that's more for kitty pukies than nail damage. But I *do* have an old tub chair from my parents' that's covered with naugehyde that's held up to 4 kids, several moves and now the cats with no damage. And good luck on getting your hair cut today. Any chance you might take a picture and let us see a before and after? I'm going in to get mine cut tomorrow. I used to spend a lot of time with the curling brush but my hair is very fine and in our humidity, it would go flat the minute I walked out the door. I think it was shortly after my Dad died that I just said "Enough!", got my hair cut shorter and now, it's strictly wash, blow dry and run. As my hair turns gray, it's got a bit more body to it so I can get away with just using a brush and my blow dryer. I have that picture of you that was taken right after you got Molly but would love to see you with short hair. You'll love it!! Besides, I think (and this is just MHO) that as we get older, we don't look good in long hair anymore. Besides, short hair is so darn easy. Don't the cats scratch the leather furniture? I was always afraid of leather for that reason. Boy, I bet I wouldn't even recognize your house anymore huh? I took your advice and bleached my machine. Happy Thursday........and only one more day 'til Friday. It's going to be warm today, about 87, so I might have to turn the air on this afternoon, but right now, it's gorgeous out. The windows are open, the fan's on and the kitties are loving it. But we have a cold front coming through tonight and our high tomorrow is supposed to be 67, Okay, I can handle that. I'll be keeping the car so I can get my hair cut and run a few errands to take the pressure off the weekend. We're changing internists (our doctor left for another group, which is great, since it took away our need to leave him.........he left us first!) and I have to turn in the release of our medical records to our new doctor. But I can't wait for the weekend. I still think Gerry should have taken at least part of this week off to help us recover from the wedding. Actually, we do. We have a favorite waitress at our pool place, Terry's Billiards. As it turns out, Emily's mom was an art teacher at one of our private schools, until her two daughters got into high school. Then she decided to go to medical school. She specialized in Internal Medicine and one night at pool, Emily and I were talking about how unhappy we were with our doctor. Bingo! The lights came on and Emily mentioned that we might like to give her mom a try, once her mother passed her final exams and got her contract with the hospital. We got to meet her mother on tax night at Terry's since Emily's mom was doing Emily's taxes and brought the forms to her to sign..........are you following me here? Anyway, I liked her mom immediately so we've just been waiting for her to get ensconced in her office and start seeing patients. She starts next Monday so both Gerry and I have appointments with her for next Friday. Emily's tickled that we're going to see her mom and, I have to admit, I love Emily to death and would love to have her as my daughter. These days, it seems like more and more of our lives revolves around Terry's and the people there. For several years prior to Emily's working there, we had another waitress named Jen that took really good care of us. Jen still works there as a bartender/waitress several evenings a week. She's also a hairdresser and when my previous hairdresser upped and quit with no notice, Jen asked if I would give her a try. Well, what could I lose.......but some hair? So I called her, made an appointment and she's GREAT!! Not only is she reasonable in price (about $18 for a full service cut and style (with wash)), but she does a fantastic job on my hair. Man, I'm in love. Jen's used her customer base at Terry's to build her client base for her hairdressing. All of the other waitresses and bartenders plus several customers now go to Jen and we're all crazy about her. So I'm hoping I'm just as crazy about Emily's mom. Looks like things are picking up and going to be getting pretty busy for me with WW the next couple of weeks....
One of the leaders called me tonight to tell me that one of her regular receptionists got hurt (I don't know how serious yet...) and she won't be able to be there for at least two weeks (probably three) so she wanted to know if I could fill in. I said yes, especially since it's an emergency thing....and I haven't been working the Wednesday night meetings lately because the membership has been down..well it's back up and they want me back....so for probably the next couple of weeks..

What a beautiful morning!! We had cloudy skies yesterday and a bit of rain but it sure cleaned the air. When I walked out for the paper this morning, the stars were so clear and looked close enough to touch. We never got out of the 60's yesterday and it's a gorgeous 50 right now. I've got the windows open and the whole house fan on......and the kitties are going nuts. Racing and running! We've missed the sound of semi's thundering through the house and Biscuit sure has everybody moving, even Cinnamon. It was so cool when we went to bed last night that we actually flirted with the thought of turning on the furnace for a while. The wedding went beautifully, without a hitch, and we got Rod and Janet married!! I'm a bit peeved with her sisters, brother and nieces, though. After all we went through on Friday, getting the decorating done, they were supposed to stay and help clean up the church annex after the reception. Did they? No. All of the clean up, the packing up of the gifts, doing the dishes, etc. fell to Sharon (the other co-matron), Debbie (who is Sharon's sister-in-law and the woman who made all of the bouquets, etc.) and Gerry and me. It felt like it took forever and we were beat. Then Sharon, Gerry and I drove the 45 minutes back to Topeka and unloaded all of the wedding gifts at Janet's apartment. Unfortunately, when we cleaned the church, we missed the candle lighter wands (I don't know how that happened, since both Gerry and I checked the church), so Sharon had to drive all the way back to Harveyville that evening and retrieve those. I don't know if Sharon made it back to Topeka the second time to get the candleabra and wands returned to Hobby Lobby. We were supposed to join the bride and groom at Harrah's for dinner and some gambling but we were so tired. My ankle had long ago gone on strike and Gerry's legs were killing him after doing all of the steps at the church, annex and then unloading the gifts at Janet's apartment. So we went to Cracker Barrel for a quick dinner and then came home and collapsed. I didn't get out of bed until almost 11 today and I think Gerry got up about 9. Danny's been having issues with his cell phone, so on Tuesday, I did the New-Every-2 and upgraded him to the same phone I got. Says I have to contact customer service. I really wanted Danny and I to have the same phone, so I'm checking Ebay. Hoping to get a used one in good shape for cheap. It still aggrevates me tho..... I mean, I got my phone what, a month ago? I had a friend just upgrade and her and hubby got the same phone I got maybe 2 weeks ago. Now it's discontinued. Don't ya just hate aggravating days, especially when it starts like that? In some respects, mine was about the same. I was a bit later, since I got up at 6:27 to go to the bathroom and decided to get everyone fed. By then, Gerry was up to take the car in for an oil change so I decided to just stay up. What happened to my plan to sleep in every day this week? As for the phone, didn't you just get yourself the LG8300? I just clicked into Verizon here and it's still available in my area!! A headache 4 days in a row, Wonderful! I don't know who I need to see to get thee headache type pinned down. Heck, it might be arthritis in my neck! Anyway, meds aren't working, my doc is gone till Oct. Even if a med helps with a headache you still can feel lousy the rest of the day from the meds! Well, I worked my butt off for 2 days gettng ready for the furniture. I love it! We got leather, I got a chair and a 1/2 cause I have to have room for kids. Got an extra long couch and a love seat. Other furniture we have is Mission Oak so I got an end table in that style, got Kaza a much needed chest of drawers and a set of steps to help the doggie get on the bed! Just a quick check-in to say hi. What I had hoped was going to be a quiet, restful week has turned out to be anything BUT. We started pool last night and boy, we ran very late. Didn't even get home until 12:30 and for the last two hours at the bar, my ankle was going crazy........to the point of putting me in tears. And no, I didn't play. So I did get to sleep in today, after getting up after 7:30 to feed the munchkins. But now, my girlfriend wants to take Sharon and myself (her two co-matrons) to lunch tomorrow and Friday is completely full. Gerry has a meeting, I have to take Cricket to the vet (depo medrol), then we drive 45 minutes south to decorate the church, the rehearsal is at 6 p.m., followed by dinner. Good grief, Vicki. If it weren't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all!! Since your a/c is new, I would think they'd have a new compressor motor in stock so you can get a quick replacement. And your homeowner's insurance should cover it. This whole situation is just so very wrong. Not to rub it in, but I've got my windows open.........by choice! Although it will heat up later, right now, it's in the low 70's and just beautiful. Strange thing is..........around here, they're stealing a/c units for the copper wire, since salvage places are paying so much for the copper. And a few weeks ago, someone stole 66 bronze vases from the one cemetery for salvage. Yeah...... our "cold" tap water comes out hot enough to burn your hand initially, and then cools down to a lovely 100 degrees. It's insane!!!!!!!!! We escaped to the pool for a while yesterday, and the temperature of the water was 97!! We're talking a very large in-ground pool! A couple more degrees, and we'd have had a sauna! The heat and humidity have been horrid this year!!! Our hot-water heater has been broken for months, but with all the other bills, we haven't been able to replace it yet. This entire year has SUCKED!! It's been one thing after another!!!!!!! As for the A/C unit... They didn't replace the outside part of the a/c tho...... just the inside part with the coil, heater, etc. We kept the old compressor/outside unit since there was nothing wrong with it and it was another $3,000 to replace that too. If it weren't for this freak storm, we wouldn't be having this issue.... Our A/C guy (Alex) is here now. I'm hoping to be cool VERY soon! I didn't sleep all night again last night...... have been up watching tv and playing solitaire all night. Since Danny is home today tho, he can take care of the kritters so I can nap! He slept last night... I swear that man can sleep thru anything!

In a lot of respects, this year hasn't been the greatest around here either. Ken's had some major problems where he needed our help but was too proud to ask. But "Mom and Dad" came to his rescue, although it hurt us to do it. We really did some "lean" living this summer to recoup the money we had to advance him but we're back to where we were before hand. Okay, I'll agree that getting Biscuit wasn't our best example of saving, especially since he had that virulent infection once we got him home, but Riley County Humane said that they'd reimburse us for his vet bills once I send her copies of the bills. That's what I came down here to do this morning..........do the letter to them. But the good thing is..........we *can* live on Gerry's retirement check from the CG.........not well, but we can live. So our retirement is pretty secure between that money and our savings. But we still save like crazy and just pray that nothing big happens. It helps that we only have one vehicle and since I don't work, I don't need a work wardrobe. And I hate shopping! So that helps too. Happy Sunday!! Our weather is gorgeous. Oh, it's getting a bit hot in the afternoon but the mornings are cool and crisp. Makes me yearn for fall. Spent yesterday morning changing banks. We'd had an on-going problem with our bank concerning Gerry's debit card, which was compromised by a charge made last Christmas at TJ Maxx. Oh, sure, he got a new card and all that and we thought the problem was resolved until we found out one evening, while he was doing the grocery shopping, that the bank had failed to transfer his debit limit from the old card to the new one. In talking with one girl at the bank, she got nasty and said it was Gerry's fault. Oh, oh. You don't tell me something like that when I'm already mad, the money is in the account and it's THEIR problem. So, as of yesterday morning, all of our checks and debits had cleared. So..........off we went to close our account. We had already opened a new account at one of our credit unions so after giving the bank an earfull, off we went to the credit union to deposit the checks from the bank. But before we left the bank, I made sure the Vice President of the bank knew the entire story and that the reason we were closing our accounts was simply because this one girl/woman had copped an attitude with me. The VP said she would make sure she had a "talk" with this girl on Tuesday. Well, we'll see. But still, the accounts are moved and we're happy. And once we got home, we created our online banking access at the CU and then transferred all of the funds from one checkbook register to the new one. Just getting that done gave me such a feeling of accomplishment! While I was doing that, Gerry took care of all of his overdue filing and entered the new CU information into spreadsheet form. Happy, happy Friday, everyone! Just got done making out the bills and I'm getting ready to start cleaning, although I'd really love to take a nap. My girlfriend's wedding shower is tonight so Gerry will be on his own for dinner. And I got a very nice surprise earlier this week when Gerry informed me that he's taking next week off. Quick update on Little One a/k/a Biscuit. As of last night, I put him on SD Kitten food exclusively and it's amazing what that did for his bowel movements. They're solid..........actually SOLID. High 5'ing and happy dancing around here. He's only got a few more doses of the Amoxicillin to take and then he's medication free. And it's obvious he's feeling great. Happy Hump Day!! I'm really tired today.........seems a little white kitty wanted to play with my bare toes last night while I was trying desperately to sleep. We had our pool sign-up party last night and since we've added some new players and dropped one problem child, I think we're going to have a good season. Yep, it's that time of year. Pool starts up next Tuesday. But GOOD NEWS for a change. We left all of the kitties roaming the house when we left yesterday afternoon (somewhat against my better judgment) and when we got home about 9:30, there were NO messes anywhere. Not only that, the baby's feet, legs and tail were CLEAN! Yahoo!!! We even left him loose when we went to bed but that was part of the problem. Sure it can be seasonal, even in people. Most especially if you have seasonal allergies. Thats usually why you have asthma, not always but often. I actually had excercise induced asthma back when I still smoked. Once I quit that, and lost weight it went away. Of course, now that I weigh an elephant, I have it back again. But I love my new vets and trust them much more than my previous vet so.............with much frustration, head banging and wailing, I'm conceding to their knowledge, education and experience. In other words, I GIVE UP. I can't do this anymore and I can't fight anymore. I'm out of energy, I've had little sleep and no rest. So I give up. I'm here! Spent Saturday with my sister and Claudia Spent Sunday working on finalizing the brochures and getting them printed. Slept both days until 11:30 so I am thinking my machine isn't working to well. Cleaned up a little and just hung out. Having some minor problems with Neil and it is a bit depressing. I'm alive...........but just barely. I *did* come to realize one thing, though. I'm much too old to be pulling all-nighters any more. Forty-two hours with no sleep can kill ------ or, at the very least, make you totally grumpy. When I went to the dentist yesterday, my hygenist claims that she thinks I actually fell asleep in the chair for a moment!! Now THAT'S tired. I did crash for a 4 hour nap this afternoon, with Gerry's blessing, but things here at home are still kind of dicey. My washer is being worked to death and I've gone through a huge bundle of Sam's paper towels in the past 4 days. But I wanted to stop by and wish everyone a good and happy weekend. Sandy, I hope you had a restful weekend!!! I can relate on the lack of sleep, altho I'm NOWHERE near as bad off as you were/are!!!! I'm sleeping in shifts since I have to bottle feed the baby every couple of hours. I just feel so tired since I'm not able to sleep long enough at one time... but at least I'm not having to stay up 2-3 days with NO sleep at all! I hope your baby is feeling MUCH better now. I got a call from a gentleman who had gotten my name/number from somebody else. He found the baby on the sidewalk outside his work area... no mom or siblings in sight. He took her in and started calling around looking for a bottle feeder for her. When he called me, I couldn't say no! I didn't want her taken to the Humane Society.... all our foster homes for kitty bottle feeders are beyond full right now, so there was no place for this baby to go! He had gotten her a bottle and a little formula, but he had no clue how to go about bottle feeding and helping her potty. She was very weak and didn't potty for 2 days, but is doing great now! He's starting to really fit in well! He still has rather scraggly fur around his neck, but it's starting to improve. I think as his adult coat comes in, he'll look less like a homeless waif! He's loving the cat trees, running around and playing. He's VERY affectionate... doesn't mind the dogs at all. He's shown no penchant for trying to get outside either.... so looks like he's a keeper! I got asked to go to Louisianna again for this newest hurricane. I feel rotten saying no, but I just don't think I can manage it right now. Both emotionally and financially. GOt my brochures done, I made several so they had a choice. And I am very proud of them if I must say so myself. I love this new program I got, I had such fun doing this. And they look so professional! THis program was well worth the money. Nan is doing good after her surgery. Did I tell you they only did part of it? That means she will have another one to go through when she gets that bone stretcher taken off. Claudia is ok too. Very sad, but coping. She doesn't want any more cats right now. The 2 she has left are enough. Ben seems to be doing ok too and it look like he isn't going to have another blockage. He is passed the 2 week critical re-block point so we are hopeful. Sorry, Kate. It's been a busy day today. Re: Emme's eye. Doctor couldn't find anything wrong with it. No scratches, no injury, no infection. She's on an antibiotic/steroid eye ointment for a week or so, 3-4 times a day. She's not happy about it but submits okay when I pin her down and clean her eye, then medicate her. As for Cricket, he finally ate a bit this evening. The Reglan worked wonders to settle his stomach so there's been no more vomiting. (NT) -- Sandy, 7:55:30 pm, Sat, 08/18/07
Denise, I printed out and took with me the article that you sent me the link for. Unfortunately, as we discussed the different options, the interferon only has a 50-50 success rate (at least that's what they've seen) and the costs are prohibitive, even for us. Dr. Gratton assured me again that cats do much better on depo than dogs do and since Cricket responds so well to it, it's probably the best thing we can do for him. He did say that neither he nor Dr. Snyder have ever seen a case like Cricket's where the teeth have been pulled, resulting in a cure on only ONE side. Highly unusual. He thinks that it's not impossible for Cricket to *someday* show a complete and instantaneous, if very mysterious, remission of all of his symptoms due to the strange parameters of his case. I guess we can pray!! But all in all, Cricket's doing better tonight. He's even played a bit but is still mostly sleeping --- and he's a champion at that!! Thank you for asking. Well, if the depo helps him, then thats great. As you know, Julie gets that and the vet told us that cats tolerate steroids very very well with few if any side effects. They metabolize it differently. Buit I am glad he is feeling better. That poor baby has been through so much, not to mention his mom and dad. We'll just have to keep praying for a spontaneous remission and hopefully, that will happen - an soon! As for Emme's eye, maybe she has a herpes infection. My Missy has that and it recurs every now and then but it is not a big deal and as long as it is treated, it causes no future damage. Hopefully now, you can have some peace and get some rest. Some not-so-good news from around here. We're taking Cricket back to the vet this afternoon at 3:30. The laser surgery didn't work at all and he's been vomiting clear, but bloody, fluid since yesterday. He also hasn't eaten and every time he drinks some water, it comes back up.........bloody. So at the very least, we have a depo medrol shot in our future, along with some Reglan to settle his stomach. He vomited all over Gerry's sheets at 3 a.m. this morning so now I'm overly tired too and hurting. But the sheets are in the washer and the main thing is to try and get Cricket feeling better again. How did he get injured in the first place V? If you have time check out Traumeel. It's a homeopathic for injury, bruising, strain and works very well. We're sending up prayers of thanksgiving today. Around here, school starts tomorrow and Travis had his first football practice yesterday afternoon. While Travis and Punkie were at the practice, Punkie got a phone call from one of her friends, telling her that a building in her apartment complex was on fire. Oh-so-thankfully, it wasn't her building but one that was just east of her's. She called us to let us know so we wouldn't freak out when it came on the news. Hi guys! Just got home from Nan's surgery. It went well, and they should let her out in a few days. She will need to wear that contraption to move her knee back where it belongs for 6-8 months. CLaudia is doing ok now but friday night she nearly drank herself to death over FiFi. Poor kid, just cannot understand why the last 3 cats she had died as youngsters. Saturday, we had to go to my cousins 50th birthday party up in the Poconos and mt Uncle had a heart attack in front of everyone. We thought for sure he was dead. Neil was just about ready to pull him off the chair and do CPR when he started breathing. God, that was awful. He is doing ok and will need a pacemaker. But, I think that kind of helped Claudia - in a way to see that to realize how precious life is. She hasn't tried to harm herself since. Hi all! What a few days I've had. Picked up Mom after her surgery on Saturday, that took forever! We called when we left (the trip is 2 hours) thinking they could have everything ready but still we waited 2 hours! Got home with a headache that lasted all day and all day Sunday and today I still feel like dirt. Molly is giving me fits with not eating. It takes an hour to get enough food in her so she can have her shot. It's too blasted hot to do anything outdoors and heat makes headaches worse anyway so I am house-bound. Oh, Denise, I feel for you. It sounds like your hospital adventure was another example of "hurry up and wait." And I HATE that with a passion. Oh, sure, as I've gotten older, I've learned patience but that doesn't mean I do well with it. And your headaches! Are they in some way medication related or are they stress ones? Either way, I so wish you could get rid of those darn headaches so you'd feel better. But Molly's not helping, is she? And mentioning the heat? Oh, yeah. I was watering yesterday and ended up wet, drained and feeling sick to my stomach. It's like walking into a blast furnace. As for my kids, everybody's doing fine. Thank you for asking. But when we counted back on the calendar to his last depo shot, we should know something about whether or not this laser treatment has worked by the end of this week or the beginning of next. The depo shots usually hold him for about three weeks and that will coincide with this weekend. If he breaks out again after that point, it will have all been in vain..........but I have hope. However, I am concerned about the lump that he has up on his neck between his shoulder blades. The vet found it just before his last depo shot and told us to watch it. Snowy and Cricket turned 4 on Saturday (the same day as Gerry's Dad's birthday) and I just think that this poor cat has sure been through the wringer in his short 4 years. But we keep plugging away with him because we're not the type to just give up. We'll keep working with him until there's nothing further left to try and even then, I'll keep looking. On the other hand, Emme is doing fine, as long as I don't let her eat too much at any given sitting. She just wants to pig out and I not-fo-fondly refer to her as our "binge and purge" kitty. She's just so darn cute, though, so you really can't get upset with her. I often wonder if her beginnings in life somehow included not enough food and that's why she's so afraid that she has to eat everything in sight when the food bowl appears. We hit 100 again yesterday (according to the weather service) whereas our thermometers said 104. Had a very nice time at the party last night...a few of the others who were in the Wedding Party were there so it was nice to catch up with them....Lori was definitely surprised...here they told John (her husband) so he was in on it.....it really turned out to be a very nice night....and I'm so glad Lori was surprised...her two boys worked so hard on it, that it would have been a darn shame if she had found anything out..... I'm glad that you had a good time at the party and also that they managed to keep it a secret from Lori. Surprise parties can be a hoot, *if* you can pull it off and keep everybody's mouth zipped until the actual party. Our weekend was kind of stressful and not much sleep was involved. I'll have to tell you about it later because right now, I'm just not ready to talk about it yet. But I did have my hookin Saturday and as usual, that was fun. It's always so much fun to see everyone and see what they've been working on. But it was hot (100 degrees outside with a high dew point) and I came home exhausted. Hi, Kate. Yep, Janet's wedding is on September 8th. To the best of my knowledge, everything is planned out, she's got her dress and hat, the cake's been ordered and all is going according to plan. I had told her that I wanted to supply her with her garter but couldn't find one that I liked. But her wedding is totally Western themed, all the way down to her bright purple cowboy boots that she's wearing, so I special ordered her a lavender and white garter. I hope she likes it. The other co-matron and I are both wearing matching lavender and white summer weight sweaters and slacks, which Janet helped us pick out. She wants her wedding to be very informal........jeans, boots and cowboy hats are the requested dress. Should be a lot of fun. I hope you had a great time at your surprise anniversary party last night. How time flies, huh? I can't believe that Gerry and I have been married for 23 1/2 years already. She's doing okay. The chemo knocked her for a loop and she's still taking methadone occasionally for pain. She's also got a problem with numbness in her feet and fingers but she went back to work last week part-time and will be back on full time (12 hour shifts) this week. I need to call her and leave a message because when she's working, that's all she does. She goes in to the hospital at 6:30 a.m. and doesn't get out until about 7:30 or so, which leaves her just enough time to eat something and then go to bed before she has to get up and start it all over again. I'm not sure why the hospitals went with these 12 hour shifts. I used to work the old 7-3:30 or 3-11:30 p.m. and enjoyed it. But all in all, she's doing great. I haven't seen her for about 3 weeks and the last time, her hair was about 1/2 inch long and coming back in completely gray/white. Claudia lost her FiFi this morning. She started throwing more blood clots and died in the vets arms. Of course, she is hysterical because we didn't get there in time to say good bye. The vet had called her early this morning and we had just pulled into the parking lot when she passed. I told her Fiona made the decision for her so she wouldn't have to and we could at least go in and say good bye to her soul. We did that and it was so hard. FiFi looks exactly like my own Johnny. Good Lord, Vicki. You've got a lot going on too and there are times when I think that if you didn't have *bad* luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all. I'm praying Danny can find another job before his boss decides to fire him but to me, at least, it doesn't sound like his boss can justify writing him up and firing him over a bag of snacks left in the truck. What a jerk!! Also, the way you're feeling, I can see where the anniversary dinner is going to be about as much fun as a heart attack. I really hope it went better than expected. I know with my family, I try to keep expectations low and then they either live "down" to those expectations or, on those really rare occasions, they surprise me. Hope you're feeling better today! Uh oh, make sure Danny keeps a diary of everything going on. It may help for unemployment time. Just make sure he gets fired and doesn't quit, so he can collect. At least untiil he gets a better job. People who are allergic to that do get sick all the time because wheat ends up being in almost everything we eat in one form or another. Can create bad headaches too. Just a thought.
