Happy Hump Day............but good grief, is it Friday yet? I'm sitting here and my eyes are slowly closing but I've got way too much to do today to get any kind of a nap. Yesterday was crazy - - - - my garbage disposal went out the day after Thanksgiving and by chance, Gerry found a 3/4 hp ISE for $40 less than a smaller size would cost at either Home Depot or Lowe's. So he bought it and Ken said he would install it, since Gerry goes crazy and gets very testy when he has to work under the kitchen sink. So naturally, the installation didn't go quite as smoothly as Ken was sure it would. But it's in, it works and this baby purrs as it grinds. No more loud noises when I use it. But I hurt my right arm and hand again as I tried to help Ken hold the disposer up to the collar to get it attached. So I stayed home last night and didn't go to payout night at pool. It was kinda quiet having a night at home, by myself (or as much by myself as one can be with 6 cats). I didn't do much but watch some TV and spend some time on the computer. But with Chicory's appointment this afternoon and church tonight, it's going to get busy. At least the weather's beautiful. Yesterday was sunny and warm and today will be the same with our temp close to 50. We *might* get some snow this weekend and end up having a white Christmas but even Christmas Day should be "normal,* meaning sunny and the high about 46. I hope everybody has a good day. Oh, Kate, I'm sorry to hear about your shoulder. I know just how painful something like that can be. My problem is that since I'm already taking a prescription anti-inflamatory, I can't take any extra Aleve or Advil...........and Tylenol does nothing for me. But I also have a pinched nerve in my neck/shoulder and my arm goes numb and my fingers tingle, like they would if they were asleep, almost all the time now. Ken *offered* to do the install for us, since we bailed him out financially last spring and summer. That $5,000 put a big dent in our budget but he's working it off with this install of the disposer and he's also going to replace our struts on the car. We buy the parts (at his price, which is a whole lot cheaper than regular) and he'll do the work. He's also offered to help Gerry add attic blankets to the attic so we have more insulation up there. The acolytes are two kids, usually 7th or 8th graders, who light all of the alter (and in this case, the Advent) candles before the service starts and then, at the end of church, extinguish all of the candles with those bell shaped candle lighters. It's a part of the service to the church he's performing to fulfill his requirements for confirmation in the 8th grade. As a part of his service to the community, he (and Punkie) have served meals at the Topeka Rescue Mission. WOW did I speak too soon!!!!!! (When I posted that we didn't get the ice we expected). It just thundered incredibly loud and the sky let loose with some awesome freezing rain. Ramona, I hope you didn't get the kind of ice that we did. That freezing rain and sleet is a killer. At least........as of last night...........there were only 32 households in my county still without power but in some of the rural areas, they're saying not to expect power to be restored until just before Christmas. I haven't bought any people gifts this year. I gave money to a mission in Nicaragua so that a family could have a house built and food for a year. I so hate to feel relief on the 26th of Dec. each year and I thought that it was the shopping that bogged me down so....I did get all the g'kids new pj's, that's a tradition but we all have so much and so often forget that. I'm having people over for meals, game night, goodies etc. instead of being too busy till midnight on the 24th that I could care less about seeing anyone on Christmas day. Denise, I think this is a *wonderful* idea!! I've gotten to the point that I almost dread Christmas, not because of "the reason for the season" but because it's become so darn commercialized. I usually feel so relieved when Christmas is over and I shouldn't feel that way. My kids are so darn easy to buy for since they provide very detailed lists and we always just send Craig and Holly a check for them to get whatever they might need or want. But we do have so much, not only as a couple but as a country, and we should be helping those less fortunate. Gerry's office has adopted five families this year, which is great! I like that idea. But to get back to your question, actually, my cats probably won't be getting anything for Christmas. I think my daughter is getting ME one of those "furminator" combs for the cats but that doesn't really count. I love this idea too...I've always said I wish people would quit buying me presents and give what money they would've spent to a charity of some kind...now for me, my preferance would be to an animal shelter or Zoo or something...but wherever is good.....I've often thought of doing that instead of buying and sending Christmas cards...but can't bring myself to quit buying them..so I just make sure to get them from the Humane Society.... I got 2 new cat trees, small ones and lots of toys. I grow them cat grass often but this time, I got a low side cat litter pan and am growing some in there for them. It's big enough for them to lay on it too if they want. I know that is going to be a big hit. MAN, you should see all the birds I have out here! I'm surrounded by windows here in my computer room and as I look out, there are hundreds! All kinds too. Poor things, the feeders are frozen so I tossed some seed on the ground for them. Happy Saturday!! Not much going on around here except working on Christmas cards. Our "heavy snow warning" has fizzled into almost nothing, which is fine with me. It was supposed to start snowing last night about six and when we went to bed at midnight, there were no snowflakes to be seen. So far, overnight and today, we've gotten maybe over an inch but it's windy, so it's drifting. Fine with me........I'm not going anywhere. I'm just so grateful that the weather guys were wrong yet again but our luck's due to run out sooner or later. But we still have over 3,000 people without power so we have to be glad that this storm didn't materialize and make things worse. So........what are you doing today? No tree this year and it's kind of relaxing! I don't have anyone trying to climb it but they all think the tree skirt is the newest cat bad and act like I'm infringing on their territory when I add gifts! No gifts for under the tree, couldn't see doing the tree. George likes anything that dangles and sends things flying across the floor so I had to switch to all unbreakable stuff years ago. Hi there! I was quite busy. Started out with a benefit breakfast with some city mayors to discuss trap neuter release in our area. Then, I had t-shirts to make. Ordered some from the NFL site and they both came in all wrong and very sloppy. So, I bought all the stuff to make my own and they look pretty darn good if I must say so myself. Today, I want to get all mys tuff wrapped and ready so I can spend the week baking. So far the tree has been touched very little. Can't believe I have 9 cats and they all leave the thing alone. I hope you don't get buried in snow too badly. Our forecast was for an inch or two originally but now it's up to 5-7 inches. Ick!! Yesterday did a good job of melting a lot of the ice around here but as of last night, there were still over 9,000 in my county alone that were still in the dark and cold. I think that, at some point, Gerry and I should think about buying a generator to keep on hand should this happen again. One last thing and I'll shut up for the day. I went back upstairs for more coffee and...........for the first time in 5 days, the sun had come out. It was so stunningly beautiful that it almost took my breath away, seeing the sun glistening on all of the ice that coats everything. It was sparkling like one, huge diamond. Destructive? Yes. So far, so good. Haven't lost any branches but only the south side of the tree melted off today. The north side is still pretty much coated with ice. And darn those weather guys anyway!!! This morning, they were saying that we'd get an inch, maybe two, Friday night into Saturday. Now they've upped the snow total to 5-7 inches. We got into the 30's and thawed and dripped all over the place! My Jeep is a mucky mess, meeting other vehicles gets you splashed! Yech! Happy Thursday. Even though Gerry's had 2 1/2 days off this week, it sure seems to be a long week. Maybe it's because we've been holding our breath, hoping the power would stay on. Late yesterday afternoon, we strung together several outdoor extension cords to reach clear across the street so our neighbors could plug in their freezer and then their sump pump, since those 2 + inches of rain/ice we got have drained down into the soil and caused the sump pumps to start running. Happily, their power came back on at 8:40 p.m. last night and has *stayed* on. But there's still 10,000+ in our county alone waiting for power. But at least we're going to break the freezing mark today and get close to 40, which should help with the ice a lot. I'm still hoping that our oak tree doesn't lose any branches, since the ice has weighed the branches down so much, they're touching the ground. But we're so lucky.........so many have lost huge branches or even entire trees from this storm. The weather guys are forecasting some snow Friday night and into Saturday but it won't amount to much........maybe an inch or two. Nothing like the Nor'easter you guys in the east are expecting. I wish I had my cat's llfe. Since it got cold, Cinnamon's been curled up on his heating pad on the loveseat here in the computer room and the other cats curl up together in the cat tree or they rumple up our comforter and sleep in heaps. How nice of you to share power! I feel for anyone without power but till Christmas?? How awful! People don't need that added stress this time of year! I have running to do today then will try to chop some more ice since today it's supposed to be warmer than the rest of the week. Might have ice till March! Dink lies on the heat duct, the rest aren't into snuggling in, maybe they are like me, always warm! we are finding that with my Dad. For years he has kept the entire neighborhood shoveled out and snow-blowed out..well this year he just hasn't been able to do it and his neighbors have been the greatest....his sidewalks and driveway have been cleared of snow each and every day. Rick was on days last week and by the time he'd get there after work the shoveling was all done..and this week he's on 2nd and by the time he got our driveway done and went to my Dad's his was already done too...Thank God for good neighbors/friends... We're still lucky...........we still have power. According to the news, there's over 15,000 in my county alone that are without power. It's so darn beautiful outside since everything's encased in this coating of ice that just sparkles, even though it's cloudy out. We've got some melting going on today, and yes, Kate, we did have pool last night. The road's are clear and we only got a dusting of snow last night as the last of the storm moved through. I feel for my neighbors, though, since they've been without power since yesterday morning. This is the couple we're so fond of and they're in their 70's but they're coping well. They have several adult kids in town so they could go elsewhere but have chosen to stay home. I'm just knocking on wood that as the ice starts to melt, it won't take down more power lines and tree branches. Had to make another vet trip with Harley...... his throat/neck is so swollen, and the puffiness is getting hard to the touch. Took him in, and some of it is soft-tissue damage, and some of it is infection setting in. He's been on 3000 mgs of antibiotics since Friday night, but still getting infected. Pray for him.... cuz if the AB's don't kick in, they said MORE surgery. Anesthesia is very hard on a Dane, and to have him under twice in a short time... factor in his age (7 on Dec. 26...which is elderly for a Dane), and it's a pretty dangerous undertaking. Thanks guys. Yes, Bodhi is being left out back... he's no longer allowed in the house unless he goes straight into a crate in the kitchen. Most of the time I am taking Goose and Harley out front to pee, but when it's poopy time, Bodhi gets crated so the boys can go out back to poo. I honestly don't know what I'm going to do long-term. I don't know if I can just keep this up, or if I need to have Bodhi put down. I can't risk adopting him out... if he ever bit somebody, I could be liable.... but I'm too emotional right now to make a decision. Don't want to do anything I'll regret later.... I'm not letting him anywhere near either Harley or Goose tho, as his "issues" seem to be with the big boys... despite growing up with them. Boy, do we have ice!!! It's been raining fairly hard since last night at about 6:30 p.m. and it just keeps raining. Gerry's office called off work last night and of course, all of the schools are closed but they didn't bother to close state offices until this morning at 6 a.m., even though the governor issued a state of emergency last night. I thought I might get to sleep in but Ken called at 5:26 this morning, cold and miserable. His power had been off most of the night. So I got up, made coffee and he and Jackie came over for about two hours. Then they tried calling their house and when the answering machine kicked in, they knew their power was back. We still have to check and see if there will be pool tonight. The road's are just mostly wet with some slick spots but the trees and power lines are suffering, big time! Our oak tree has branches that are now touching the ground and our neighbor's tree, that is several years older than ours and also bigger, is going to lose some branches. What I'm afraid of, though, is wind, since that will take the icy branches down into the lines. And the trees are starting to sway a bit. We've had a couple of power blips but no outage and I can only pray that it stays that way. Sure, we have a gas water heater and a gas furnace but without electricity to run the thermostat, we'd have no heat. Right now, I want nothing more than to crawl back into bed and get a nap. Well - - -- Happy Monday, I guess. I'm so darn late getting here. I had a doctor's appointment first thing this morning and Gerry had taken today off so he could get the presents to the post office and on their way to Maine. After that, we ran to the pharmacy for refills on prescriptions, to the lab for a blood draw for me, to KS Rehab Hospital to drop off magazines for the waiting room, Gerry got some blood work drawn, to our Toyota dealership to add some antifreeze to our overflow tank and finally to see Ken at work to congratulate him on getting a 97% on a huge test that he took for work. This test will affect his promotability. Now we're home and hunkered down, waiting for the ice storm to hit. The Weather Channel, the radio stations and all 3 of our TV stations are full of doom and gloom regarding this storm. (NT) -- Sandy, 2:00:41 pm, Mon, 12/10/07
The weather guys are saying that we could get as much as 3/4 to one inch of ice with massive power lines down, trees destroyed, etc. There's nothing we can do about it but wait. If we lose power, we pack up and bunk with whichever child has power. Could be a fun experience with 6 cats, considering Punkie has two cats and the parakeets and Ken has 3 cats. The last time this happened, it was '84. My apartment complex was without power for 5 days so I moved the kids and myself in with Gerry, since his apartment only lost power for 5 hours. We'd only known eachother for about a month at this point. Anyway, when my power finally came back on and we moved back to our apartment, Gerry and I decided that we didn't want to live apart but I told him that I wouldn't live with him unless we were married. Six weeks later, we got married and that was almost 24 years ago!! So who says you can't marry somebody after only knowing them for 2 1/2 months and have it last?? Not us!! I heard it was gonna be worse south of us and for awhile it wasn't supposed to reach us but now it is saying we could get the crud too. Seemed nicer today with the sn shining and no wind so I spent time with the dogs and then putting up lights on trees and shrubs. I'm a bit happier! Leon is doing well, he got out for a haircut today and went to work for an hour. Tomorrow I HAVE to get housework caught up! Hope you don't get it too bad! We have a gas heater in the catroom in the basement and one on the sunporch. We bought a generator last March during that ice storm so we are good. Another week has started! Well, Zeke and Micahwere better at meal time last night, she wasn't so bossy with him. I found out where the blood was coming from, he tore a toenail. No biggie, thank God! Forgot to tell you about Ben's vet visit. Vet thinks he is ok and the food is working to dissolve the stones. The x-rays are hard to see because Ben is so big. He doesn't think we need to operate yet so thats good. His urine was bloody so they sent it out to the lab for a thorough testing. They just love him there. They call him their love muffin and the one vet tech wanted to take him home for the weekend. I said no because I thought he was too young for sleepovers, LOL! I am there so often that they don't even bother making me sit in an exam room, they just call me back to their main room as if I was just another tech. It's cool though. Also, I have all the doors open and so far, Nini only chased Roger once. Johnny keeps going after Ben but all in all, it is much better than expected. Naw. She had that tracker software on the board that showed her the ISP of everyone who came into the board so she was aware of each time one of us dropped by. We're warmer than you are but not by much. Our temp is slowing going down and is now 27. That in and of itself wouldn't be too bad but we're getting a very fine mist at the same time. What a gloomy Friday! I have virtually no energy and just want to go back to bed and snuggle under the comforter. At least the ice storm the weather guys were talking about for today has yet to materialize. We still have snow on the ground but the sidewalks/driveway are melting off nicely but we're supposed to get one storm after another all weekend long, including into Monday. All I know is............we're snug, secure, the fridge is full and we have plenty of cat food and litter, so we can make it through anything. No much planned for the weekend. I am totally happy that the 2 dogs are getting along but it has been a LONG couple of days and tomorrow is another one. Besides going to see the dogs and spending time with them I've been shoveling snow and chopping ice when what I want to do is clean house and decorate for Christmas. My back is killing me from bending over so much, about didn't get back up when cleaning cat boxes! Thanks Denise.....He is diabetic (not on insulin but on sugar pills at this time) and his family does have a history of heart problems, and he had a slight stroke about three or four years ago. He has been fairly active but is definitely slowing down..he has really been showing his age the past few months. He is a hard man to describe...he is not happy, he is alone and honestly, if I want to say exactly the way it is, he wants to die....I think he prays for it every day.....so, while I'm hoping and praying for some relief for him, what he really wants is to die.... Could his diabetes be out of control? That can cause leg problems. They say that depression is one the most untreated conditions in the elderly. It's sad cause a daily pill could make their lives so much better. My grandmother was this way, they started her on Prozac and in 2 weeks she was a different person. Oh, Kate. You have my prayers also. I've been there and done this and it's one of the hardest times you'll go through. My mother literally willed herself to die and Dad lost all will to live once she was gone. With your dad, I do hope you can talk him into going to the doctor sooner. Is there any way you can call his doctor, fill them in and have them call him with an "earlier opening" that they can offer him? I *do* have a feeling that his fall is suspect here but the swelling, I agree, is probably heart related. Between his trouble breathing and now the swelling, it kinda sounds like congestive heart failure to me. But I'm no doctor and don't claim to know that much. Just a quick check-in as Gerry's on his way home from work. It's been snowing all morning but now, we're getting sleet so his office released everybody at noon. He says the roads are terrible and very greasy so he's doing the grocery shopping on his way home. We did have Cricket in for another depo shot yesterday afternoon and this time, the vet gave the injection in a different area so we can watch and be alert for any lumps. The vet thinks that Cricket might be developing a reaction to the *delivery agent* in the shot since he shouldn't have this reaction to the depo. He told us that the delivery agent is what slows down the absorption of the steriod and makes it last. So at least we're good now for another 3-4 weeks. We are getting the snow too and some areas might get some drizzle on top of it. It's Mona that's funny! Greasy is a common word around here when the roads are slick! LOL Prayers for both boys. Cats are meant to eat protein, period but we fill them up with grain. I just read an article that said feline diabetes was on the rise. Denise, they put him on the Purina prescription diet. Said that in the past, they used to advise the SD MD but since that food was on the recall list with the melamine, now they use the Purina. We paid for the bag of food since it's so pricey and Ken just didn't have the money but I need to find out if perhaps the Innova Evo is low carb enough to feed Chicory. Sandy, if you get to the diabetic cat board they have foods listed and they will help you out there. Many people use Fancy Feast, several varieties are listed as low carb. If you check the Purina ingred. you are gonna see a lot of crap ingredients and grain which he doesn't need. Used to be that canned was the only way to go for less grain or no grain but now with the grainfree kibbles I'm sure people use them. I've found a grainfree that is cheaper than Evo, it's called Taste of the Wild. Do you have Theisen's stores near you? I'm sure it's other places too. I am soooo mad! Leon took Micah to meet Zeke, they sniffed and postured a bit but that was it. Leon just remembered to tell me that Zeka had a fever of 105! Good Lord, this poor dog has been hauled around, met new people and dogs, been to new places and all along he was feeling lousy! I just sat here and bawled earlier, I feel so bad for him and so mad at the same time! Another thing, in the 13 days the vet had him, he lost 11 pounds! That's excessive and makes me even madder! A kenneled dog, no excerise and so little food that he lost that much?? I bet he was miserable! He needs to lose weight but with excercise and maybe 2 pounds a week! ggggrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! I looked up safe weight loss for a dog and it's 5-8% body weight per month. This would be 5-8 pounds per day at most! Called this morning, they gave me the vet to talk to. Happy Tuesday. I think tonight's our last night of pool, although we'll play next week, just for fun, when we get our payback check. I tried to go to bed early last night and it backfired. First, I couldn't get to sleep and then I was up going to the bathroom. Then, at 1:30, I was up with a charlie horse in my left calf. Cricket is doing okay. We've made it to almost four weeks on this shot so I've got nothing to complain about. And the lump between his should blades is just about gone. The one on his right side, however, is still fairly large. Gerry says it's going down but Cricket won't let me get close enough to check. By now, I'm sure your plumber is there and working on the furnace. I tried to get to the board last night after I answered Denise's email but the board wouldn't load. I'm assuming it was Voy because everything else would come up for me. High efficiency or an 80% one? (Okay, I'm being nosy but when I first moved to Topeka in Dec. '83, I worked for a mechanical contracting firm, which installed water heaters, dishwashers, trash compactors, furnaces and air conditioners). I take care of our water heater, furnace and a/c, scheduling service each spring and fall and, back in 2000, made all of the arrangements for our new furnace and a/c. Kind of a quiet Sunday, even around here, which is okay with me as we all have to gear up for another week. Our weather is absolutely freaky. Today has been chilly with a stiff north wind but until the cold front came through last night, our temps continued to go UP. By the time we went to bed last night, our temps were up to 64 and still climbing. The south winds had died down when I got up at about 1:30 a.m. and I think the cold front came through right after that. So has everybody been keeping warm today? mostly what the problem is is that it is 25 years old...it's also a brand (it came with the house) that no one in our area services or even wants to have anything to do with....we think when the previous owner bought it it was touted as the "next best furnance ever....." and it never lived up to it's hype....our plumber only knew of one other one put in about the same time as this one, and that guy took it back out within a year...hated it because it was noisey and just didn't do all that was promised.... I need some prayers for this dog situation! The German Shepard is still at my vets. The timing for introducing him to Micah is getting ridiculous! Leon was gone all weekend, is busy today after being gone and also getting ready for foot surgery on Thursday. I need to have him and someone else help with this just in case there is a fight and need to get this poor guy out of that cage! If he and Micah don't become fast friends fast then I have to haul him back to be boarded at night and try again the next day.....crud! This week is gonna stink! He is having a bunion removed. He had the other foot done a few years ago but it was more complicated cause they had to straighten bones and fuse things together. I'm lost here too. I was never into the heavy metal groups like AC/DC, Led Zepplin and others. Boy-oh-boy.....we were googling the new furnace we are getting this afternoon, and Rick clicked on what looked like a very legitimate link..and all of a sudden the computer locked up, saying the website wanted to run something...well we didn't want it to run anything, BUT it wouldn't let us get out of the link or close up or anything...finally I got it to let me hit the "x" in the top right corner..then just as it was closing it up something came up saying the computer may have been infected with a virus.... So I immediately ran my anti-virus software and sure enough it found a trojan horse something....I nearly died!! I am so careful about clicking on anything...I rarely even click on a link from someone I know in their e-mails because I'm afraid they might not know what or where they are sending me....I will open them from people I completely trust, but honestly my SIL loves to send me crap to open and jokes and stuff that have links and I never open them...I know she visits a lot of different sites and I doubt very much if she has a clue whether or not her computer may be infected with anything....So, anyway I ran my anti-virus software twice (once when it originally found the problem and said it was deleted and then again afterwards and the second scan came back clean) also ran my spyware and my adware programs twice.... I would have totally freaked out myself and if it were a weekday, I'd have been on the phone to Gerry immediately. Right now, he has all of our anti-virus, spyware, etc. running twice a day, once at lunchtime and again during the middle of the night. He was really upset a couple of weeks ago at work..........he picked up a "drive by" trojan at work and had a terrible time getting rid of it. I know Kate! WHen my g'daughter lived here I started getting way more spam but with pop up blocker and 2 anti virus programs, firewall etc. I haven't had your problem for a long long time. I remember when it was pretty common for a site to lock you in and it made me so mad when i couldn't close the page and then got pop ups too. My antivirus runs every night now. Hi, all. Sorry for being absent. Gerry's Warrant Officer Association had their winter holiday gathering yesterday so I was gone most of the day. When we finally did get home, we went right back out to dinner at the Outback. Today was my hook-in and although I was way too tired to go, Gerry literally forced me out the door and once I got there, I had a wonderful time. In December, our teacher makes lunch for US so we don't have to bring anything. Otherwise, during the rest of the year, she splits the alphabet into halves and A-M bring something one month and N-Z bring lunch the next month. But once I got home today, I laid down for a nap while Gerry went out to try and get some Christmas shopping done for his family. Kate, I hope your furnace is holding up and will make it through the weekend. What kind of furnace do you have? Do you have a boiler system or do you have a forced air system like we do? In Maine, we had baseboard electric heat and I hated that. We were always cold. But when we lived in the lighthouse, we had a hot water, radiator boiler system that was heaven. Nice, constant heat. And here, we're all natural gas forced air systems. But I'm thinking of you and hoping that you'll have heat until your service company can find you a new furnace. Hey, if you got 25 years out of it, you done good, girl!!! When we bought our house, it was 6 years old. At 17, we replaced the furnace to a new 90% efficient one and a new, larger water heater. But hey, I never realized that you had forced air natural gas systems in PA. I guess I thought you'd be using the baseboard electric heat or some kind of a boiler system. Hi, Everyone! I have a ringworm question. One of the kittens we rescued seems to have ringworm. She's being seen by a vet who has prescribed Malasab shampoo once a week for 4 weeks and topical Malaseb spray twice a day. It's still spreading, though. It didn't turn green with the special Woods lamp, and the culture has been 10 days out and still hasn't grown any ringworm. The lesion keeps spreading and poor Carma doesn't have any fur now on her neck and part of her shoulder. Otherwise she seems fine - eating up a storm, playing and purring. I hope none of you *ever* have this problem! BUT it's mainly in kittens. I'm going to have the carpets steam cleaned, too. The spores can live in the environment for 18 months! I think as soon as her immune system kicks in, it will start to go away. It mainly affects young animals with an immature immune system, or people who are sick or undergoing chemo, or young children. Happy Saturday all! I'm on my way to New York City to see the "Bodies" exhibit. I am so excited. I love New York! And I have been wanting to see this exhibit for so long. Well, Ben had the abcess but it is almost all gone. Missy is actually doing very well,. I think they are all healthy and ok. That is what makes it so strange. I can't think of anything. Glad Ben's abscess is almost gone!!! My foster dane, Dana, had a HUGE cyst on her back that abscessed. I was able to drain it on my own. I got over a quarter of a cup of bloody puss out of it. Was very gross!!! Luckily I'm not the squeamish type when it comes to stuff like that.... Danny was gagging, but it didn't bother me. I don't know what to say about this. If you think they are all well....then...the good bird watching seats might help. Do you have strays around? I know some people's cats beat up on each other when they see "strange" cats outdoors and also pee inside when they see a stranger. What a mess! Hope you can get it figured out and the Feliway helps! Oh.......... and also had to do some minor surgery on my foster dane.... had a cyst on her back that abscessed........ drained a quarter of a cup of gunk out of it, but it's healing nicely. Was just thankful I didn't have to pay a huge vet bill! Goose was attacked by one of the dogs at work too.... his leg swelled up and he could barely walk. I was cleaning out emails today. I came across one with a link (that I assumed was long dead) about a pet food discussion we'd had on the old CM in 2000. I clicked the link and it was still there! Judi was still Cranky Kitty, Sue V, Lorrie, Mary Ann, Miki, Tracy and last but not least granny was there! It was kind of neat to read these peoplle's names after all this time. I miss Noreen. Sorry, Denise. I just needed to take a day or so and be quiet. I've been dealing with the pain and exhaustion that follow any busy holiiday or weekend and Thanksgiving was no exception. I've noticed over the past several days that my right hand is very swollen and painful again so I need to back off and take it easy. As for the kids, yeah, surprisingly, everybody's doing pretty well. Cricket's lump between his shoulder blades is almost gone........it's now smaller than a pea. But the one on his right side is huge and seems to be painful. And Ken's taking Chicory to the vet today for another "adjustment." But he seems to be doing better also. Did the Vet check the larger lump the other day on Cricket? I'm glad the other one has gone down but doesn't sound like the other one is from the injections then if it hasn't become smaller?? How does Chicory handle the "adjustments" ??

kate, the newest lump is from the last injection he got. And we haven't been back for an injection since, since they usually last oh, about 3 to 3 1/2 weeks. But I had told the vet about it when I went in to pay Chicory's bill last week. It took the first lump about 3 months to go back down. Chicory seems to handle the adjustments okay. He stays pretty quiet afterwards for a day or so. But I talked with Ken a little while ago and he said that Chicory isn't walking too well today. The appointment is at 2:30 so I'll check back with him shortly before we head for pool. I'm still just really concerned about the neurological factor here with his back legs. And Re-Re's so darn mellow that the normal tests (dragging their feet against the table lip to see if they place their feet) don't work with him. HI! I'm sorry your are hurting. Does the cold make it worse? About Chicory...is he walking on his hocks? Diabetic neuropathy causes this. My sisters cat was like this, then was dx'ed with diabetes. She used vit. B12 (not the normal kind) and he came out of it. Vet was shocked. It took awhile though. I will send you a link to a cat story and how this works. II hope he feels better after his adjustment! My Bubba was completely down, not able to use his rear legs and he had accupuncture and I wa amazed he was on his feet in 2 weeks and 4 treatments. Denise, Chicory's not walking on his hocks. He walks like he's drunk in his rear legs. According to Ken, he does better on the carpet than he does on the wood of the dining area or in the kitchen. Some days are better than others. But if we give it a bit more time and the adjustments don't help, then I think I'm going to ask about accupuncture. Hope you all had a nice day yesterday. I have a post Thanksgiving headache. Need to clean floors but don't feel like it. Yesterday was OK till my dad showed up. He said he wouldn't be there and then showed up and was "not so great" (to put it niceley) Seems like a lot of work for such a short time. Neither of my sisters helped clean up, one is always the first to leave and the other stays till the end but doesn't lift a finger to help set up or clean up. Denise, I'm so sorry to hear that your Thanksgiving turned out to be so crappy. I have to claim ignorance here and I'm sorry if this is too personal, but do you not have a good relationship with your Dad? And are your parents' togther or divorced? You don't have to answer if you'd rather not. As for the cleanup, I can relate. One of the last times I had Thanksgiving dinner at my parent's house, my sister and my mother went outside, while I cleaned the entire dining room and got all of the dishes loaded into the dishwasher, hand washing everything that wouldn't fit. When my sister came back inside, she feigned surprise that I'd done it all. Yeah, right!! I hope your headache is gone by now. I had one this morning but it disappeared with the first cup of coffee. Sandy, my dad is a cold fish and also selfish and self absorbed. He and mom divorced when I was 18 or 19, he was married to a woman just like himself for 20 some years and the last 4 years he has "dated". By "date" I mean he takes them all over the world and pays for everything so we can't be sure what they really see in him, if they truely care or if they see him as a cash cow. He gets to know those womans families better than his own. On Thanksgiving day no one expected him cause he said he had plans and then wehn he showed up it was late and he only spoke to a few people. A wonderful and chilly Saturday from Topeka. We got another dusting of snow last night but it's already melted off. It was surely pretty earlier, though. Gerry is off to the memorial service for the fellow Coast Guardsman that died but I elected to stay home, since I'd only met him and his wife once or twice. But Gerry's been playing the "Happy Elf" already today, getting out Christmas decorations, while I've just been taking my time reading the paper and having coffee. The last of the Thanksgiving dinner dishes were finally done last night (the huge platter and roaster pan) so now the kitchen's back to it's normal clean condition. Forgot to mention Missy's latest vet visit. Her billirubin and ALP are perfect. The ALT is still up, but not skyhigh like in the beginning. As long as we keep the billirubin and ALP low, she will be fine. She still has to stay on her steroid but the antibiotic can be stopped. YEAH AFTER 2 1/2 YEARS we can stop torturing her with that huge pill! The steroid is flavored liquid so she doesn't mind that. Vet was amazed that we've kept her alive this long. He said the liver disease will never go completely away, but she is as close to being cured as possible. I know I am very lucky to have such a top notch vet specialist in my area. People come from hours away for him. He is not my regular vet, my regular vet sent me to him when he couldn't save Missy. Obviously, I am glad he did even after $6,000.00.
