Seems Friday's headache was a loner! Thank God! Taking Mom to doc, doing a little running, need pet food mainly. Will have to go again Wed. cause I don't want to make her sit there waiting that long. BTW, thanks again for the heads-up on that place for the "pill pockets" I ordered them on Friday and they arrived already today!!! I'm going to give her the Salmon tomorrow.....You know, it might be my imagination, but I swear she is looking better already, and she has definitely thrown up less....so maybe/hopefully the pills are already helping her.... Hey Kate! I think you are getting dumped on even more than we did! And Ohio??? What a mess! We are supposed to get into the 50's the next few days! MUCK TIME!!! Mom starts PT on Wed. They want to avoid froze shoulder. She's in some pain but I know as she has ages she can't deal with pain as well as she used to. I have several that won't take treats so I've thought about trying those pockets but...well, let me know how long you can keep them around. I'd think they would get dried out after awhile? I was on Synthroid once. I felt better the second day, more energy, just more "up". I don't know if there is a connection to throwing up or not. I looked up the symptoms of Hyperthyroidism in cats and one of them was excessive vomiting. She had been throwing up a bit more lately, but I chocked it up to hairballs....now I'm thinking that wasn't the problem afterall.....She liked the Salmon flavored this morning, and these are definitely a bit smaller for her to eat.... Spring may finally be here, at least for a couple of days. Our high today should be 68 and tomorrow - - - - - 71!!!! I can hardly wait to get the windows open and have the house smell so good. I can't believe how the people in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio got dumped on with all that snow. I'm glad I don't live there 'cause they'd have to lock me up. We're already into grass fire season because the top 2-3 inches of the ground is dry. I had my regular hook-in this past weekend and then with the time change, it kinda knocked me for a loop. But I sure like the fact that it's lighter, later now. But having to go through that clock changing thing always messes with my body clock. I wish we could stay with daylight savings time year round. We have a lot of snow yet but a lot disappeared today! 50's for another couple days should get rid of it. Saw my first robin today so that usually means at least one more snow! Prayers for you, Denise, and for Reba. This just ain't fair!! I'm praying this is just a fluke and will be taken care of quickly and easily but I also think the radon test might be a good idea. We had a lot of radon issues during the time we lived in the lighthouse in Maine and to this day, I'm surprised we don't glow in the dark. I'm heading outside to sit in the sun. It's currently 72 and sunny with a nice breeze and just an all round *perfect* day. The housework is chugging along so I don't feel badly about taking some time to sit outside. We're supposed to cool off tomorrow with rain coming in by Friday and again for most of next week. Not much else going on here. The kitties are all doing great, even Cricket, and Ken says that Chicory is doing so well, he can't believe it. The only down side is I lost my pool match last night against a guy that I normally beat very easily. I don't know what the problem was but I just couldn't get my rhythm going and wasn't getting any leave at all. Oh, well, maybe next week. I hope everybody is having a decent hump day. (This being said with a small smile - - - - - since I know it will probably upset some of you) It was a marvelous afternoon. We managed to make it to 74 totally luscious degrees and it felt great to sit on the picnic table and soak up the sun. Such a warm and toasty feeling. But the cold front came through just about dinner time. Didn't drop the temp all that much but now the wind's coming from the north, bringing clouds and some rain for tomorrow. Drats. I wish I could have taken this afternoon's weather and kept it until next Christmas Eve, when it could snow. Then on December 26th, back to today's weather. Got up really early this morning and drove to Dr. Lee's and got Maggie's medicine and also the "pill pockets"
they pill pockets seem to be geared more towards dogs, but it worked slick for Maggie this morning....she did smell it a little more than usual (she isn't used to soft treats either....) but ate it right down!! I'm relieved and glad for you that if (and that's a big IF) Maggie had to have a problem, it turned out to be something easily treatable like hyperthyroidism. And boy, you're lucky too that Maggie took that pill pocket without any problems. Around here, Cinnamon, especially, is so wary of *anything* that's out of his normal routine. He's one cat where a pill pocket would not work. But I'm grateful that Maggie snarfed it right down and didn't give you any problems. I always wish there were a way to explain to them that you're doing it for their own good. My Synthroid is probably the only medication I take that I don't *mind* taking. My entire family runs on the low side of the thyroid and we're all on Synthroid. About 12 years ago, I was having some really bad symptoms and thought I was in early menopause. Turned out to be my thyroid. And once I got on the pills, boy, I sure felt better so I hope the same goes for Maggie and getting her on the right dosage for her. She really will feel better. Hang in there Kate with the pilling if Maggie is anything like some cats I know she will only get better about the pilling. When Cappy had to go on insulin injections twice daily we thought for sure it would be one big fight. The joke was on us he would jump up onto the counter after his meals and wait on us to get the insulin out and take his shot. I'm sorry for being a little "vacant" this week. For whatever reason, I'm just feeling a little out of sorts in some ways and it's making me edgy. I haven't had any medication changes but I've had a terrible time trying to sleep on two different nights this week .......and the weather's getting to me. Oh, starting tomorrow, we're supposed to be sunny and on the warming side but for right now, it's snowing yet again (only a dusting, or so they say!) We're probably lucky with this storm system since my sister in Little Rock is getting dumped on, snow-wise, with parts of her area getting 18 inches. But hey ----- It's Friday and that gives me hope! I am supposed to go to a WW Staff Meeting in a city about 45 minutes south of us tonight...but not sure what is going on, we are in the middle of a major storm watch (once again....) calling for rain, freezing rain, sleet and god only knows how much snow....so for now, not much planned..excpet watching the darn weather reports!!!!

No plans. Woke with a headache today after 6 days pain free. That means I will need part of tomorrow to do what I don't feel like doing today! We are supposed to be warm over the weekend so dogs will just track in again! I'm sorry you aren't sleeping well. Do you take anything for that? I have some homeopathic drops called Moon Drops, they are a vanilla flavored soft mint that you let one dissolve in your mouth a couple hours before bed and then another at bedtime. Aw, crap, Denise. I was so hoping you'd be headache free for longer than that. But at the very least, I hope this is a short one and will be gone before the day is over. As for the sleeping thing, yeah, I've got a prescription for Ambien but I hate to take it. You're supposed to plan for having 7 to 8 hours for sleep so I can't take it at midnight or 1 a.m. and be able to get up at 5. What's happening is that I'm pretty sure I doze off but then wake up again within a few minutes and absolutely cannot get back to sleep. And that's another thing on my schedule...........I owe Susie a phone call. From what I hear from my other sister, she's doing great.........really great. Good attitude and she's working herself really hard. I know she wants to get out of that hospital and home and a lot of that depends on how she does with her physical therapy. Her remaining leg has to be strong enough to hold her, depending on whether she's on crutches or that bastardized walker she was using before. Good morning, a day late! Just visited Neils sister yesterday and then went to my friends daughters dance show. She is 16 and quite a dancer! It was a lot of fun to watch. 2 hours of pure energy and those kids are really good. (high school). They had gone on a cruise ship and did shows for the vacationers. Thast about all I did yesterday. Bogie and Reba had labs today. Bogie's main issue is protein in his urine I need to mess with his diet. Even his cushings test was great, the best we've seen since dx and stopping treatment. The kidneys aren't damaged so I just need to make his diet so he is able to process the protein instead of it being flushed out in his urine. Any other elevated numbers could be related to this so this is the first step. Also a round of meds for possible UTI, there was blood but whilte count was OK so this is precautionary. I thought Reba might have thyroid issues, weight gain, hungrier than normal, shedding but thyroid was ok so we are aiming at her diet too, will add digestive enzymes to start and I've been researching dog foods lately anyway and might find one that would be better for her. I couldn't get out of the house this morning. Was supposed to be there at 8 and didn't get out of the house till then. I cut Reba's toenails and got a bleeder and couldn't make it stop. Since Bogie and Reba had to be fasting I knew Lex and Liv could wait but had to check Molly and she read LOW sugar, scared me and I couldn't leave with her low ! Thankfully I retested and got a decent number and knew she could wait to eat and have her shot too. Wasn't home 10 minutes and got a call that Mom had fallen and needed to go to the ER. She couldn't move her lft arm. I had to feed these dogs and get insulin in them so DIL took her. She broke it! ARGH!!!!! It's been a day I would rather have just skipped! Mom is 76. It's tough seeing them get older and seems she is more stubborn than a few years ago too! She's worried she won't be able to scoop snow for God's sake! Denise, I admire you more than you'll ever know. I don't know how you do it.......managing all of the health issues with your animals, dealing with your headaches and coping with your Mom. (I'm so sorry to hear that she fell and broke her arm ----- not fun for one of ANY age!) I don't know how they do it but I agree with you both...........they *know.* I'm glad Rick was able to catch Maggie without too much stress ----- on him and on her. And it's great that she came out so well at the vet's office. And although I know it's futile to tell you not to worry, don't worry yourself too much. If you've been weighing her food out and keeping her at the low end, that's more than likely why she dropped a pound. I wish I could do that with mine. Cinnamon and Emme could stand to lose some weight and Biscuit is getting to that point too, even though he and Emme are the most active. But Joey's my nervous Nellie and she worries off her weight. We must have a look on our face when we go after them! I've thought about this and I think for mine it's because the only time I walk at them and intend to pick them up it's to "go" or to be held and medicated. They all come to me and with so many I am never catless so theya re leary of ME coming to THEM. Hope her labs are good. Actually a little weight loss in a senior cat is more likely due to kidney issues than thyroid. Crea (creatinin) is on the blood work but protein, specific gravity, protein/phos levels on a UA show kidney issues. There can be kidney issues like protein in the urine BEFORE it shows up on blood work cause when blood work shows a problem it's usually when there is already damage or disease. Protein in the urine causes the kidneys to work harder and leads to damage. Sometimes lab work can be perfect but an ultrsound will show kidney damage. (NT) -- D, 5:29:18 am, Fri, 03/07/08

Dr. Lee called this evening with Maggie's blood test results...all of her levels were good, but remember I said she also added the thyroid test? Well it came back that she has Hyperthyroidism (that's right isn't it? this is the one that causes weight loss....right???) anyway, I have to start giving her a pill a day then she'll have to go back in a month for a re-check on her blood work.... I've been so lucky, Maggie will be 12 in August and this is the first time I've ever had to pill her, I've given her liquid anti-biotics but never pills....any suggestions? I was hopig with Reba that is was thyroid cause it's so easily treated. The pills are small so that helps. WIth Jaz was on Lasix it was a small pill too. I out him the counter top, opened his mouth and tossed it in. He never spit one back out. He was so good! I've never tried the pill pockets and I have some cats that don't take treats so it wouldn't work for some but I think that's worth a try! Good luck! Hi, Karen. We're up to 6 kitties now and that's our limit - - - - yep, it really is. We have Cinnamon (our almost 11 year old seal point Siamese), brothers Snowy and Cricket (Cricket has stomatitis but he's doing well on his depo-medrol shots), Joey (our calico female), Emme (American Wirehair Tri-color - - - but she has a smooth coat, which made her worthless to her breeder (but not to us)) and lastly, Biscuit, our baby boy who's white with gold eyes and a small, grey smudge on the top of his head. Ya just gotta love Kansas weather. Very windy again today and it was still/already 67 when I got up. Now we're at 71, which was our high yesterday but..........by this afternoon, we're supposed to be getting thunderstorms, followed by rain into tonight and we're in a winter weather advisory for late tonight into tomorrow. Supposedly we're expecting 1 - 3 inches of heavy, wet snow. At least for right now, we've worn the kitties out and they're all sleeping. The windows are all open and they've done their racing and running, acting like total spazzes and picking on eachother. Joey's done nothing but hiss and snarl at Biscuit and Emme. It's going to be a very lazy day. We had a late breakfast while we were reading the paper and now I'm headed off for a long, relaxing soak in the tub. This morning started out windy and the snow we got was causing visability problems but it's all settled down and the sun is out but still cold enough to not be melting. I would like to get out but I ehar the roads are covered and slick so I will stay put. Cleaned the cat rooms this morning, was behind from so many headaches and I feel better having that job done. We managed to miss all of the snow overnight and this morning but got a lot of rain last night. Earlier, my sump pump was coming on 3-4 times every 30 minutes but now it's down to twice an hour. But it's cold. When that front rolled through, we dropped over 20 degrees in an hour. The snow on the backside of the front stayed to the south of us and for that, I'm grateful. But our temp right now is 29 and I want back yesterday's high of 71. I've got spring fever so badly. But I talked with my MIL yesterday and she said that the snow in Maine is up to the bottom of her kitchen window and they'd just gotten another foot and a half!! I am in a litter dilema. No matter what I try, I have litter dust everywhere. And with 9 cats, thats a lot! So, I've tried wheat litter, corn litter, pine litter, newspaper litter, and either they were even MORE dusty or the cats wouldn't use it. So, the only one I haven't tried is the crystal type of litter. I haven't tried because it seems to me the litter has sharp edges around the tiny pieces and I worry that would cut or be very uncomfortable on a cats paws. It seems to me to be like a person walking barefoot on stones. Has anyone used it and would recommend it? What do you think? There are a lot of people who just upped and disappeared and I always wonder if they got tired of the board, if their computers fried and they can't remember the URL (or how to do a search) or if they're so incredibly busy (and there really is NO such thing as being "that" busy) that they just don't have the time. But then again, that means that those of us who are here, are here because we *want* to be. As for the litter issue, I hear ya about the dust. We use Exquisicat that we get at Petsmart. It comes in 40 pound boxes (scoopable) and we go through a lot. But yep, it's dusty. I work my way through the basement with the vacuum and the furniture brush, trying to suck it all up. Cjheck out Litter Pearls, I think that one is round balls, shouldn't have sharp edges. I have one box with the corn cob litter in it. Someone uses it each day but it ahsn't caught on wih the others. It isn't dusty and it tracks less even though it's lighter weight than regular scoopable. I only notice the dust in Goldies room where it's enclosed. There is dust in all the ridges of the door and it's a mess but the other boxes are in the basement and I don't notice it so much. I was going to post one of these days and ask what litter everyone was using now. Happy Friday. Survived my dental appointment yesterday without any problems. My hygenist says I'm doing an excellent job of keeping the tartar at bay and have done a good job brushing. Now I only have one more appointment to make (for my osteoporosis screening, which I don't mind, since all I have to do is lay on a table) and then I'm caught up on medical stuff. We're headed for a beautiful and sunny 50 degrees today and the weather guy is saying that we'll make it to 66 tomorrow before another cold front comes through. WOW!!! A Saturday at 66 degrees??? The screen on my phone blanked out yesterday. I had taken it into the bathroom with me since I knew Gerry would call while I was soaking in the tub but I made sure that I had completely dried my hands, face and hair. But apparently I didn't dry off quite well enough. When I hung up with Gerry, my screen was blank and white. Once I got out of the shower, I used my blow dryer on it and managed to get the inside screen to come back up but then it disappeared again. So when I picked Gerry up from work, we went to the Verizon store to see what could be done. And what fantastic customer service we got. They exchanged my phone for a new one, no questions asked, and even moved all of my contacts over to the new phone for me so I wouldn't have to do it when we got home. I've got the LG8600. And I know you're right about the moisture. Since I was still sitting in the tub, even though I'd dried everything off, I think my hair was still wet enough to put moisture into the phone. I could actually see what appeared to be water inside the screen. That's why I was jumping for joy when the screen wallpaper came back as I dried it with the blow dryer. But then it disappeared again. I'm just so happy that I didn't have to buy another phone. As for your battery, I'll bet the new one helps. Batteries, in my experience, only last about a year to a year and a half. After that, you might as well replace 'em. But you're due in May, right? Only two more months?? Getting excited yet??? Your BP this morning was great!! But I don't think I ever feel caught up on the medical stuff. Since October, I've had my mammogram, blood pulled twice, two visits with my internist, two with the rheumatologist, and just this week was the GYN and the dentist. Once I get my osteoporosis scan done, it'll be time to see the internist and the rheumatologist again. So it never stops. Yes April (the girl at the doctor's office) called me back this afternoon....I guess he doesn't feel the numbness in my fingers has anything to do with my BP or the meds....and he didn't feel it was anything to be overly concerened about...that it was due possibly to the way I sleep, which is entirelly possible, or due to my Raynaud's and if not those two things...I've also got Carpal Tunnel in both wrists...so it's probably a combination of all of the above!! Doc started me on Lyrica to try for 2 weeks. I'd not heard it used for this but most drugs that come out end up being used for way more than they were developed for. Sandy, you still using this? Had a headache by the time I saw the doc and it's still here! This is getting as old as this cruddy weather! Hope your bp is good Kate. I've been on emds for years, was able to go to half the dose I took for a long time and bp is averages 117/ 70. You DID get snow! More than us. Well the "good news" is my doctor isn't overly worried about my BP...BUT the bad news is it was 170/90!!! He isn't overly concerned because he is happy with my weight my exercise routine, but obviously he wants it down some. So, I have to take it regularly at home ( I was supposed to do this since the last appointment but kind of got lax...) and call it in to the office for a month then go back in April. He is thinking that I may be becoming immune to the meds and he will have to up my dosage...so we'll see!!!

Jeesh Kate! When I started meds mine was 154/100. It took 4 med changes till I found one that worked and didn't make me feel blah. I also started taking it at bedtime so any blahness wore off by morning. Then a neurologist changed my meds to one that was supposed to help with headaches and it worked for several years but now the headaches again so I think if this new med doesn't help I am going to ave to start at square one again (like many years ago) and see a neuro again. Doc ordered a MRI several months ago, that showed nothing and I have labs done regularly cause of my heart and meds I'm on and nothing there so I just don't know. Right now he only has me on a 5mg tablet...cause he likes to start out with the minimum needed then work up if need be..so I'm thinking (and so is he) that he'll be bumping up the mg's in April. About the only reason I can think of that may have made mine so high yesterday was I had taken a couple of sinus tabs the night before for a sinus headache...maybe that elevated the BP too....I forgot to mention that to the doctor yesterday...???

Denise, I went off of the Lyrica about a month ago. I just couldn't tolerate it and it was messing with the vision.......blurry and unable to focus. Now he's got me on a low dose of Gabitril, which is normally used for seizures so he's prescribing off label. He had said that if I can tolerate this med, he'll up the dosage at my next visit. I can't tell any difference in how I feel but one of the side effects of this medication, which is to treat seizures, IS seizures, so I'm being very cautious. As for healing, nope, not yet. My wrist still aches constantly so I wear the brace unless I'm in water, such as doing dishes or whatever. And I've only got one small area on my foot that's still black and blue but boy, that still hurts a lot. Played pool Tuesday night and was in agony, trying to limp around the table. And it's hard to make a "bridge" when you're shooting if your wrist aches and you can't move it certain ways. (and yes, I did lose my match!) Had a bad night last night and woke up tired and nauseous but I've got a dental appt. this afternoon. Saw my GYN on Monday and got an all-clear from him. But it's been a darn long week. My lap-band surgery is scheduled for 3/24. I'll be in San Diego for it. My insurance doesn't pay, so I had to find the place I could trust the most that had the best price. I can't wait. Hopefully, all my aches and pains will disappear along with the weight. I just thought of something, it's funny, usually fat people have high blood pressure but mine is low, always has been, and probably always will be. I'm lucky in that way. I'm glad for you and that you are so excited...and I hate to put a "damper" on your enthusiam..but I was wondering, I know this procedure can help you to lose weight, but do they also have counseling or anything to help you learn to eat healthier? So that you just don't go back to your old eating habits and gain it back again? Sorry, I'm not trying to be mean here, I guess I just know for me I needed the help in learning why I ate the way I did and also to learn to pick healthy foods....but mostly I needed to learn that I very rarely ate because I was hungry, it was usually because I was depressed, tired, bored or whatever....do they help you with any of these kind of issues? Of course, there is a whole program you have to go through. A nutritionist, a psychologist, batiatrician, monthly support meetings, pre-admin testing, plus I have already been on the very strict Atkins diet for 2 weeks now. YOu are required to lose weight before you can have it done. I already know why I eat too much. It's not emotional for me, I simply love food. Also, I won't really be able to go back to my old eating habit. My stomach will be too small. Please remember, this is not the dangerous gastric bypass, it is the lap band. Minor laporoscopic surgery. And I know you aren't being mean, I DO appreciate your concern. Really, I do. I picked San Diego because I want the top doctor in this field working on me. He has performed over 5000 of these. He is the doctor who taught all the other doctors how to do it. Most of the other doctors have only performed 200-300 hundred so far. So, you can see why I picked him. My sister is doing great after hers. 30 pounds lost since Christmas. My step-daughter on the other hand isn't doing so good. She lost 26 pounds but that is since November. She has a new obsession with chocolate, so that isn't helping. I had an absolutely marvelous time in Lenexa today! There were probably 20 vendors ( down by a couple from last year) but there had to have been 250 women there. And the rugs!! OMG!! Some were such beautiful works of art. We got home just before 4 and thankfully, there were no problems with the roads, although it was cloudy, foggy and chilly all day long. I came home so energized but now, I'm just plain beat. I hate having to get up early on a Saturday and since we needed to leave by 7:30 or so, I was up by 5:20 a.m. Tomorrow's a day to sleep for sure. Finally!! Happy Friday!! It looks like the sun will finally come out this afternoon, which will be so nice. Our storm turned out to be a dusting of sleet with maybe 1/2 inch of snow but it's cold. I'm hoping that with the sun finally showing itself, it might melt off the driveway and the sidewalk, since there wasn't enough to shovel or even broom off. Tomorrow's my big hook-in in Lenexa and I'm so excited to go, especially since I know that the roads won't be a factor. And by Sunday, our high is supposed to be around 50+ so the snow piles will be melting too. It just feels like it's been a long week with one storm after another coming through. Sorry for the "hit and run," Kate, but I'm exhausted. I just talked with her and as I expected, she's crying. The rehab staff had just left her room after fitting her with some kind of brace for her knee..........I wasn't sure exactly what she's talking about. Said the pain is a 175 on a 1 to 100 scale with lots of phantom pain. I don't think she's fully grasped and understood the situation yet but when she does, there's going to be major depression to deal with. Other updates: I missed Snowy and Cricket's Gotcha Day on Monday........it's been 4 years already. He's been sneezing a lot and I want to catch it before he gives it to everybody else. And Chicory went to the vet yesterday for a glucose check. It was 93......which is damn near perfect!!! Ken said he saw Chicory RUN down the hallway the other day and he can't remember the last time he saw Chicory run!! And damn it all anyway..........it's SNOWING AGAIN. Wow!!! Denise, you've got a lot of family problems that you're dealing with and I can surely understand why you're losing your cookies. We've had some "issues" with Kenny over the past several months but nothing like this. In fact, your life makes mine look easy. I'm sorry I haven't been around lately but doing the stairs has been a *bit* of a problem. On Thursday, even with the bath mat in the tub, I slipped and went down, dragging my left leg and foot along the inside edge of the tub. Doing this turned my foot and toes completely backwards. I didn't, thankfully, break anything but my big toe and the toe next to it are black and blue, along with the bunion area of that foot........and this is my bad ankle/foot anyway. Not walking isn't an option but boy, it's sure been painful. I was trying to protect my left wrist when this happened so by trying to keep from re-damaging my wrist, I buggered up my foot quite badly. I've asked Gerry to take me out to the back 40 and shoot me but he says no. On top of that, my older sister is back in the hospital and will have her lower leg and foot amputated on Tuesday. After her last surgery, where the doctors were attempting to give her a walkable foot, everything appeared to be going well but at her last doctor's appointment, they were debriding the wound and found bone that had turned black. Not that it makes a difference now, but if she had taken care of herself years ago, this never would have happened. But now, we have to deal with the present and look to the future and God only knows what will happen now. If and when she ever leaves the hospital, her house is a bi-level and will, and has already, caused problems for her. The whole situation is just an incredible mess. To top that all off, we're in another winter storm watch for tonight and tomorrow. We'd just gotten rid of the previous 9 inches of snow and had bare ground. It's just starting to rain now and the weather guys are calling for heavy rain but by about midnight, it should change over to snow. We're not supposed to get that much snow (about 2-4 inches) but the winds are supposed to be strong and cause blizzard conditions. We've done our running for the weekend and are now burrowed in, just waiting for the weather to happen. This winter has just seemed already to be exceptionally long and I know that right now, we're about 10 inches ahead of normal/average for our snow. Me??? I'm ready for spring. Susie's married but Bill is about as worthless a husband as you could ever find. She was going to divorce him years ago and yes, she should have. Bill's just upset that he can't sit in the family room in the basement and watch TV all day. Susie would be better off if she could eventually go home to a small apartment that's handicapped accessible and has no stairs at all. But I can't see that ever happening. We dodged another bullet on last night's storm. We got a lot of heavy rain and it didn't start snowing until well after 5 a.m. this morning. Although it's pretty windy now, the sun's out and we only got about an inch and a half of very, very wet snow. Gerry shoveled the tire paths on the driveway this morning and it's already clear and dry. But the low spot in our backyard looks like a lake. Lots of water. I'm so very grateful that the temp never dropped enough for the storm's moisture to change over to freezing rain or that much snow. Denise, how bad is your area today? I haven't had a chance to really check out The Weather Channel this morning. We got some mist and rain in the night but it didn't start snowing till about 6 a.m. First it looked like white rain, 10 minutes later heavy large flakes...kept changing appearance. we had some nasty freezing rain yesterday morning.....about did a donut in my driveway when I went to leave to go into my Dad's!!! On his last all-day glucose curve, he was doing perfectly. His insulin dosage was reduced about a month ago because his blood test showed he was going way too low over the course of the day. But right now, knock on wood, he's healthy and very happy. No more staggering and Ken says he's even playing at times. Chicory's had a wonderful turnaround!! And we hope it stays that way. It took longer than usual but Jaz is home, I got his ashes yesterday. The day he died I was letting the dogs out, it was cold so I had to wait at the door for them. The storm door was frosted over and I started doodling. I made a big heart and wrote JAZ in it. He died the 26th, so it's been there for quite awhile and I liked it. Yesterday not long after his ashes came home I noticed the frosted heart was gone, even when the frost diminished you could still see it (why your mother hated it when you did this as a kid!) Happy Tuesday. It's been kinda quiet around here lately so at least I hope everybody's doing something they enjoy. It's still cold today, although I was sure we were having a heat wave when I got up this morning, since the temp was out of the single digits........LOL. And it's sunny!! I've also been doing some early spring cleaning. There were two piles of paper here on the computer desk that belonged to me.............old, old stuff that I've just been too darn lazy to go through and shred or dispose of. A lot of it was old Cat's Meow stuff, like calendars and some (proofs of) posts. But it's a new year and way past time to lighten up and set myself free. I've whittled it down to just a few pages that I need to keep, such as my aunt's one letter that I need to answer and the instruction book on our one vacuum. We have complete show cover again and I had to close a gate dividing the back yard cause we got a drift high enough that the dogs could have walked over the fence! No, Kate, I didn't play. I *did* warm up, though, but by the time I had played several games with Gerry, my wrist really hurt. And I had my Fibromyalgia meeting to go to, although I did make it back to Terry's before 7:30 and Gerry was playing the first match. We did win all five matches so it all worked out well anyway. I have hopes for next week, since my wrist gets a little better each day. Oh, and Cricket is doing well. He's really Gerry's cat and follows him everywhere, trying to get a belly rub. Speaking of Cricket, it's about time I make an appointment for his next depo shot. As long as we keep him on a schedule of every 3 1/2 weeks, he does great. Thank you for asking about us. Good morning! Well, I finally got my winter storm. Little snow, lots of ice. Wish it were the other way around. Now, we are flooding. There goes my basement. Still doing lots of overtime and I am getting really tired of it. I did just have my 20 year anniversary so I have a pretty good pension under my belt and can retire at age 55 if I can afford it. Thats only 7 years away !! YIPEEEE something to look forward too! Plus, I've been designing and printing posters for a huge spay/neuter clinic we are doing on March 30th. We are really moving ahead with our goal of a no-kill Lehigh Valley. I'm excited, we are so close. Only one shelter left that kills. Kitties are all doing well. We had that huge ice storm during the first part of December and some people didn't get their electricity back until Christmas. Thanks for asking, Kate. It's MUCH better today. We went back to Walgreen's and got a much bigger wrist support...........it almost looks more like a bowling glove. It holds my wrist very securely and I can't move it in any way that causes pain. But I have to take it off to type. And I still have a whole bunch of trouble washing my hair, etc., in the shower. Mini update.... We're all doing well. Scooby is not fitting in well. Danny is still working nights, and Scooby moans and cries and carries on when I leave for work at 6:30, and won't let Danny sleep. Danny gets home around 3:30 a.m., so most mornings that's when I'm UP for the day.... then working 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m... I am a TIRED puppy! Hi, Vicki. Is Scooby the rescue Dane you brought home? I imagine his whining and crying when you leave for work is NOT endearing him to Danny, who deserves some sleep too. As for the taking care of everyone by yourself, well, for the most part, it's that way here also. Oh, sure, Gerry scoops first thing in the morning and last thing at night, but the rest of the time, it's up to me.........along with the nail clipping, combing, feeding, watering and keeping the cat fights down to a manageable level. Just a part of my day. Sounds like you're super busy but with the economy, just be grateful you both have jobs. In Emporia (about 50 miles SW of us), the Tyson plant is laying off most of their employees (about 2,000 of 2,600 are being let go) because of reduced slaughter operations. Most of these people will have nothing left and no job prospects since Emporia is so small (only about 26,000 people). I feel for them and try to remember that "there but for the grace of God go I." Danny will not scoop at all...he hates the litter boxes. He usually helps me feed the dogs at night tho... and with 14 of them, that's a huge help! He also helps with the In-out-in-out routine for the dogs. I also have to do all the grooming, nails, etc. I am missing what little bit Danny does do to help out around the house tho!! I'd love to see those temps about now. We were lucky to hit the mid-30's yesterday but it was still enough to get some melting done. Now we just wait for the rest of the snow to disappear. I've got to admit that I'm more than a bit ready for spring. Our area usually gets about 20 inches of snow each year and we're already at close to 30 inches, so, for us, it's been an unusually snowy winter. What a beautiful day it's turned out to be. We're at 64 with lots of sunshine and a nice breeze. Tomorrow - - - well, that's another ball of wax. Nope, Kate, I haven't called. It's better today and I checked with Webmd. I'm sure it's just a bad sprain and I'm keeping it wrapped with a velcro thing that Gerry got me at Walgreens. And I'm keeping it iced with an old, inedible bad of snow peas from the freezer. I can even tie my own shoes now without going through the roof. The only thing I still need help from Gerry on is getting my bra on in the morning. I can't hook it and then turn it around since it puts too much pressure on that part of my wrist. Oh, duh, that's a BAG of snow peas. Typing still hurts because it bends my wrist the wrong way. I can't put my palm flat on the table with my arm at a 90 degree angle but I can push up using my knuckles (in a fist). If I'd broken something, I wouldn't be able to do that so I know it's a sprain. Today is my moms birthday (She is 71) my sister is making the cake, so I am making the dinner. Decided on baked manicotti. Thats easy and can feed a lot of people. Woke up this morning to heavy rain, lightning and thunder. Strange to hear thunder this time of year. There was some sleet mixed in earlier and now we wait for the snow. Depending on which weather guy you want to believe, we're going to get 3-5 inches..............or six to ten. Either way, it's going to be one big mess. The snow's not supposed to start in ernest until tonight so we'll get to pool without any problems. Getting home might be another story. I'm jealous of my two younger sisters, who both enjoyed temps at 80 degrees yesterday but they're expecting super cell thunderstorms today, complete with large, damaging tornadoes. I can only hope that if we get the snow, Gerry's office with cancel work tomorrow, since the disabled (and the able-bodied) won't be able to make it through the snow. Snow Snow Snow!!! It finally stopped, started about noon yesterday. It's heavy wet snow, sticks to the shovel, I hate that but great if you want to make a snowman! If someone came to my door selling snowmen and would make me a nice one I would pay a pretty good price for it! LOL! I think we got about 6" and it IS the snow you think of for winter but I would have liked it last month and no ice first. Lots of cars in the ditch, or so I hear, so I am staying home. Our snow didn't start until after 8 last night but when it did, it really came down. When we walked out of Terry's last night about 10:30, we had to hunt for the car.........it was buried. And the snow didn't stop until about 10 this morning. All in all, we got about 9 inches and it's still blowing all over the place. It's *gorgeous* outside but still really cold and Gerry just got done snowblowing our driveway and our neighbor's. His work got called off at 6 this morning and all of the schools are closed. To the best of my knowledge, it's a very bad sprain.........and I have absolutely no idea how it happened. I didn't play Tuesday night, didn't drink, didn't fall. At one point, I got up from the table and thought to myself "Ouch, that hurt." By Wednesday morning, I was in agony. I have it wrapped and am using heat/ice on it but have some lidocaine patches, which really help. Was feeling pretty good last night but today's weather is cool and rainy and it aches big time. You just haven't found the right food yet. Bubba used to be mine with this problem. When I switched to Royal Canin Special I watched him like a hawk cause every other food I'd tried till then effected him. Well, they ate that for 8 years with no problems and then that food changed when the manufaccturer changed so I switched again and I've not had any problems caused by any of the 4 different foods I feed. I sent you a link to a food, Abady and Wysong also has one but even if you went to Royal Canin Special (has to be this formula) I think you could clear this up. I pikced Grey up last night and my hand got wet! I found a sore on her hip (close to the base of her tail) with a blab patch the size of a golf ball! Sore is about 1/2 a pinky fingernail in size. I sprayed it with colloidal silver and this morning it looks much better. Clean and dry at least. I wish I had one of those soft e-collars around! If it doesn't appear to be healing I will take her in on Monday but anything they give me to apply will just be licked off so I prefer the silver and she doesn't mind it. The only time I've seen something like this was with Bandit, the crippled cat. Keep a very close eye on it. Ben had one and it ended up being an ugly ugly abcess that is very hard to get rid of. THats just how Bens started. I noticed a wet spot, and thats what it was. GROOOOOSSSSS. If it is an abcess, it must be opened and drained and strong antibiotics. Whatever you do, don't squeeze it. If it is an abcess, all that does is push poison inside further. Hi everyone. Haven't been able to do much except read posts lately. Been working horrible overtime hours. That BITES, but the money is nice. Been hauling my ars in on weekends too! Plus, Neil was in the hospital last week. THought he had a heart attack but didn't after all. They think he is beginning to have blood clot problems though and that one broke off, went to his heart and caused all the pain but that it was small enough that the heart got rid of it without causing damage. So, now he must take an aspirin a day and is going to try to quite smoking AGAIN. Collected $2285 for the local shelter and another van load of items to take down there. Thank God thats about over. I did it at work. Sent around a company wide e-mail requesting the items. Then ran a dress down day. For $5 you can dress in jeans for a day. Thats how we got the money. Has it been cold enough for ya?? Yesterday, we dropped 43 degrees and had blizzard conditions. Not much snow was involved........maybe an inch........but it was blowing so badly that I couldn't see the house across the street. I decided to veg out and stay inside until we left for pool so I called Gerry at work and had him stop at the end of the driveway and get the mail. But by 4 p.m., the sun was out and the storm was over. We're back above freezing today and the street's melting off completely but supposedly we're to get more snow tonight and into tomorrow!! I swear, I think we've gotten more snow this winter than in the last 4-5 combined. It's kind of a shock to the system. But it's pretty, especially when it's all clean and white. I've barely even been home in days! Between work, and trying to visit with my MIL as she is very lonely... So much going on here. Had to fire a volunteer who stepped WAY over the line... Took another Dane into rescue. He's HUGE! His back comes up to my waist... he's 39 inches and almost 200 pounds, and only a year old! Unfortunately, he has really bad hips tho... Danny's working nights this week, and I'm working 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and tomorrow, the half day Wednesday, and have a meeting with the Humane Society on Thursday, then working Friday and Saturday. Right now, we're at 14.........the snow's stopped with just about an inch (a dry inch, so it's blowing around a lot) and the wind is fierce. Frigid and windy ----- that about says it all. But the rest of the week is supposed to be back in the upper 30's to mid 40's with more snow on Thursday. Yep, I'm ready for spring. Hi guys. I'm not bad at all. I think dealing with Jaz's problems for months now I kind of got "ready" for what might happen. Even this past few weeks it was a daily thing, giving shots, pills etc. Knowing he wasn't feeling well I too advantage of his good days and gave him lots of attention. One thing that bothers me is when they are alone when they go, I would never have allowed that, had I known Friday morning just how bad he was and how short a time he was going to be here I would have let them help him pass so I could be with him. I've been through pet loss a lot, each is different just as the pet is. When I got the call about Jaz I was feeding the dogs. I have to watch to keep each one eating their own food and that Bogie and Molly eat their foods and how much, then they get their shots. So, I couldn't just shut down, I had to care for others. I think that helps so much. It's not like I need to gt rid of anything that was his cause nothing was his, it was all shared, People with one pet have it much rougher cause of all the reminders but I don't get rid of toys, food bowls, litter boxes... Punkie got on line last month to check her bill when she got her notification that it was ready and her bill had taken a $65 jump. It turns out that Travis was downloading things, checking them out and then deleting them, not realizing that he was still going to get charged for them even though he deleted them to keep his mom from finding out. And what stuff was he downloading????? A Hooter's calendar, for one. She got on the phone immediately with Verizon Customer Service and had him locked out of his phone. All he can do now is call and text. And he has to pay for the extra $65 charge on the bill by doing dusting, window washing and wall washing...........at minimum wage. We started out with not having the text package on our phones..but with where Rick works, its so much easier for him if I just text him if I need something than to call him so we started doing that (especially when my dad was doing so poorly) so once we figured out that it was easier and more convenient for him I checked into adding the text package to our phones...it has already paid for itself!!
