Good grief, Vicki. If it weren't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all!! Since your a/c is new, I would think they'd have a new compressor motor in stock so you can get a quick replacement. And your homeowner's insurance should cover it. This whole situation is just so very wrong. Not to rub it in, but I've got my windows open.........by choice! Although it will heat up later, right now, it's in the low 70's and just beautiful. Strange thing is..........around here, they're stealing a/c units for the copper wire, since salvage places are paying so much for the copper. And a few weeks ago, someone stole 66 bronze vases from the one cemetery for salvage. Thankfully, the salvage places now have to take identification from anyone that they buy this stuff from, so the guy was caught and will be prosecuted. -- Piggy's Pad

I know that this winter, I'll be envying you the weather that you have but right now, I'm glad I live where I do. Several times every day, we get on the bridge cam for the town where Gerry grew up. They replaced the bridge over the river in the past 2 years and we've been able to watch it being built. Yesterday, I noticed that it looks like the leaves are already starting to change. I'm so jealous. I'd love to live back in Maine, IF, and only if, I could be a snowbird. I just can't handle the long, cold and snowy winters. My mood turns so blue. If we ever win the lottery, one of the first things we'll do is buy a summer home in Maine. But anyway, good grief, I sure hope you can get your a/c fixed quickly. It's sheer hell trying to cope with that kind of heat and humidity when you don't have any a/c. Thanks hon........ I tell ya, 95 degrees with 85% humidity IN THE HOUSE sucks!!! Our low last night was 90!! It didn't even reach that "low" till around 4 a.m. too. I am SO looking forward to our winter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dearly love our winters, but these summers are getting harder and harder to take. You have my abject sympathy. With that kind of heat/humidity, I'd have the monster of all heat headaches and be very grumpy. That ------- and I'd be taking a cold shower every hour. But have you noticed that during summer, even the cold water is tepid? And I hate that since I always take a "cold water rinse." I hope your a/c guy gets it fixed today. Yeah...... our "cold" tap water comes out hot enough to burn your hand initially, and then cools down to a lovely 100 degrees. It's insane!!!!!!!!! We escaped to the pool for a while yesterday, and the temperature of the water was 97!! We're talking a very large in-ground pool! A couple more degrees, and we'd have had a sauna! The heat and humidity have been horrid this year!!! Our hot-water heater has been broken for months, but with all the other bills, we haven't been able to replace it yet. This entire year has SUCKED!! It's been one thing after another!!!!!!! As for the A/C unit... They didn't replace the outside part of the a/c tho...... just the inside part with the coil, heater, etc. We kept the old compressor/outside unit since there was nothing wrong with it and it was another $3,000 to replace that too. If it weren't for this freak storm, we wouldn't be having this issue.... Our A/C guy (Alex) is here now. I'm hoping to be cool VERY soon! I didn't sleep all night again last night...... have been up watching tv and playing solitaire all night. Since Danny is home today tho, he can take care of the kritters so I can nap! He slept last night... I swear that man can sleep thru anything!
That really sucks about the salvage thieves!!! I'm SO glad he was caught!!!

In a lot of respects, this year hasn't been the greatest around here either. Ken's had some major problems where he needed our help but was too proud to ask. But "Mom and Dad" came to his rescue, although it hurt us to do it. We really did some "lean" living this summer to recoup the money we had to advance him but we're back to where we were before hand. Okay, I'll agree that getting Biscuit wasn't our best example of saving, especially since he had that virulent infection once we got him home, but Riley County Humane said that they'd reimburse us for his vet bills once I send her copies of the bills. That's what I came down here to do this morning..........do the letter to them. But the good thing is..........we *can* live on Gerry's retirement check from the CG.........not well, but we can live. So our retirement is pretty secure between that money and our savings. But we still save like crazy and just pray that nothing big happens. It helps that we only have one vehicle and since I don't work, I don't need a work wardrobe. And I hate shopping! So that helps too. But Vicki, all in all, I'm praying for you that your life turns around and you and Danny can live your life without these disasters. It * does* wear on you when you have these huge expenses. I've been looking for work...... there has just been too much hitting us this year...... horrific vet bills, car-repair bills, a/c-repair bills, Danny's eye surgery for his cataracts..... and with his job still hanging in the balance... It's been scary. This has been a very stressful year. If I were smart, I'd quit rescuing for a bit, as my adoption fees are nowhere near as much as I end up spending at the vet on some of these animals...... and I have cut WAY back.... but I just can't say NO when there is an animal in need and everyone else has said NO.
