I have heard it many times used that way and it makes me cringe.
It was never meant to be used that way, and the meaning is not that...but nevertheless...! :-(
I have stopped using the word because it makes me uncomfortable knowing that it can be misinterpreted. I will not allow myself to hurt other's feelings when I know that I might be doing so...even unintentionally. That's the real world.
