And,RuJane,what bothers me is that,when you look at the funding, MOST of the $$ goes towards administration and salarys and marketing/advertising, while the public STILL has to fork over membership fees and buy expensive tickets for events not to mention the costs associated with taking a class in dance,performance,or art.

The entire system needs to be over-hauled in my opinion. If the $$ is available,grants to arts organizations are great, but I don't remember for instance,STATE POET LAUREATE ($10,000),being advertised to the general public.

In one way,I am sorry for the possible demise of art funding with tax dollars, but I think that McGREEVY knows more than he's saying about waste/fraud/croni-isim, involved in the current Arts infrastructure.

Look at the announcement that a LOCAL arts organization took a grant of $140,000,for the purpose of setting-up a website that lists "studio-space" in South Jersey. I would have GLADLY done that website for $5000. wouldn't you? The $140,000 is actually going towards SALARY for teachers who plan on having students do the work. (I would have taught someone how to do it at no extra cost!).
