So I'm curious about what makes you attend a feis? All but one of my daughters is done dancing and we choose which feis to attend by proximity mostly since we don't do a lot any more, but that's just me. Back in the "busy" years (trying to get out of Prize winner/Prelim) we picked by which judges would be there (not that it mattered) and the feis history. (Daughter did well there before. nice venue, etc.)
Do people pick based on the "extras" like treble reel comps or Prelim set comps?
If it's an outdoor feis, do you avoid it if you are out of grades (we didn't)?
I'm curious as to what people look for now as I'm not in the thick of things anymore.

I typically pick based on proximity, but there are so many I'd like to travel to if money was no object. For example, the Hershey Park ones seem fun. (NT) -- Senior Dancer, 16:05:54 02/10/22 Thu
We're usually up for any good feis within a 3-hour drive. In pre-covid days we'd started skipping the outdoor ones as they were often either too rainy, too muddy or too hot. But now, after missing out on so many during the pandemic, we're pretty much up for anything, (NT) -- us, 16:30:16 02/10/22 Thu
After sampling some at the beginning of feising and just finding out which ones we liked overall. As she got older we got more adventurous and went places we’d enjoy and have fun going to. When she was younger, DD loved to feis anywhere and everywhere, did all the specials, etc. I think it was more of it was a fun way to spend the day at the feis with friends; now as an older WQ, she no longer does comps where all the judges are local. In addition to what others have said, i like double feis weekends backed up to a school holiday, I also consider the timing if we are free that weekend, I hate when 2 feiseanna are planned for the same day and they are both close to me. Each feis makes the choice on whether to have it public or not. It started as a way of hiding where people were coming from during the pandemic, but has continued, not really sure of the reason (NT) -- -, 18:25:05 02/20/22 Sun

We were just saying the same thing. If the organizers were concerned about crowding (and they have asked us to please limit spectators), then why would they insist on having three comps run concurrentlY? The third comp in the morning HAS to check in before the first comp starts (instructions sent yesterday). At the step into fall feis today. Great feis. Well done.

Ran into this Krazy-Karen, thinks she’s god’s gift to parenting. First she decides she is just going to pep-talk my son, unsolicited. He doesn’t take well to that. It was an obvious and very lame attempt at some stupid mind game against him as a competitor. He just laughed it off. Then, as luck would have it, but not entirely unexpected, his shoes broke. We knew it was coming but the new ones haven’t arrived. We could buy new on the spot but our TC discourages competing in shoes that are not broken-in for safety sake. That’s where Karen comes out in all her glory. This complete stranger proceedes to lecture us anout what terrible parents we are for letting him not dance. She’s such a great parent her child would NEVER even suggest such a thing. Really made quite the show of herself for all around to see. I’m legit worried we might find ourselves on YouTube or Tik-Tok.

Then her dancer gets up and stumbles his way through his dance like yogi bear in hard shoes.

We are going to be laughing about her all day!

In 2016 there were 20 in u8 and in 2017 there were 19; for 2018, 12 placed and 2019, 16 placed. For the prior two years not certain if it was all placed, but could check old programs (NT) -- not really much different, 08:52:37 11/23/21 Tue
Also keep in mind at the time entries were due, vaccines still weren't approved for the 5-11s... Numbers may be generally down, but that does account for some of it. (NT) -- Next year will tell the tale, 22:44:08 11/24/21 Wed

Great for setting up a practice floor. These tiles are well used, but are in good condition.

We are attending Oirechtas, but each of my children are dancing on different days. I have asked on the NEO FB page, but not received an answer. My children are u8 and u13, do they count as their siblings spectator? I cannot realistically leave my 8 yo on the hotel room alone, but I also would like my husband or mother to come with me to help with the other kiddo. Any ideas?

A blackout feis is def not optional for costumes. You have to wear all black including tights (almost pos about that) along with no wig, light makeup and no bling re: buckles, etc. Hope that helps! It's fun once in a while to do low key! :) (NT) -- Good luck!!, 09:13:53 10/23/21 Sat

Our TC had originally told us teams when the syllabus first was released. Then post-release of the syllabus the region sent out an email to TC's saying no teams. All but one of my daughters is done dancing and we choose which feis to attend by proximity mostly since we don't do a lot any more, but that's just me. Back in the "busy" years (trying to get out of Prize winner/Prelim) we picked by which judges would be there (not that it mattered) and the feis history. (Daughter did well there before. nice venue, etc.) Do people pick based on the "extras" like treble reel comps or Prelim set comps? If it's an outdoor feis, do you avoid it if you are out of grades (we didn't)? I'm curious as to what people look for now as I'm not in the thick of things anymore. Thanks for the input! I typically pick based on proximity, but there are so many I'd like to travel to if money was no object. For example, the Hershey Park ones seem fun. We were just saying the same thing. If the organizers were concerned about crowding (and they have asked us to please limit spectators), then why would they insist on having three comps run concurrentlY? The third comp in the morning HAS to check in before the first comp starts (instructions sent yesterday). He just laughed it off. Then, as luck would have it, but not entirely unexpected, his shoes broke. We knew it was coming but the new ones haven’t arrived. We could buy new on the spot but our TC discourages competing in shoes that are not broken-in for safety sake. That’s where Karen comes out in all her glory. This complete stranger proceedes to lecture us anout what terrible parents we are for letting him not dance. She’s such a great parent her child would NEVER even suggest such a thing.
