Subject: Every one can sit here and bash Harney feis, but what about Harvest 2 years ago, took over 3 hours for results. Every feis has a bad year or two, give them a break, dont' go it you had a bad experience, i would love a small group for my prelim to get her 1st.

The problem with Harney IMHO is their venue and lack of organization..almost every feis that has opted to use Jim M for PC/OC tabulation has seen a significant improvements in results. Harney's issues were numerous and I for one am hoping they looked at what went wrong last year on EVERY level and made some necessary corrections. We can not control the weather and neither can Mr Harney so if it rains c'est la vie but they can control the schedule and where everyone dances (NT) -- NE Mom, 10:22:18 09/24/09 Thu Tom has results done very fast , the problem last year was the length of competitions and the line in the gym waiting to dance competitions. They should indeed review dance locations and order. As states in posts below , a stage in cafe , gym and aud. with prelim and champs running at once could help, then allow the grades to use gym ( with the bleachers down on both sides!!!, there are too many people to use only one side of gym) (NT) -- hello committee!!!, 10:35:51 09/24/09 Thu They've outgrown their venue. Subject: Transfer Ban/Suspension question

The Petri Dancers will be holding a food drive at the Petri Feis on 9/26/2009 at Hofstra University. The drive will support the Mary Brennan INN in Hempstead, N.Y.

If you are interested in participating in the food drive, we would ask that you bring your donations to our feis on Saturday 9/26/2009.

Specific items needed are:

length from neck to longest part of skirt 21 inches

My prelim dd chose to do Harvest Time (NT) -- mom of college student, 03:40:31 09/22/09 Tue Choose anything but Harney -- dd (Only Harney wins Harney!), 03:46:17 09/22/09 Tue Of course they all dance at their own feis. I think they have team practices the next day so not many can go to Harvest Time. (NT) -- sf, 06:18:28 09/22/09 Tue My DD chose Harvest as well; Hated dancing between the raindrops for two years at Harney! (NT) -- champ mom, 05:33:18 09/22/09 Tue Harney ran about 3 hours late, possibly more, for dd's comp last year. We are not from Harney and she was happy with her top 3 placement and very large trophy. But standing around all day meant she was too tired to be at her best the next day at Harvest. This year we will do Harvest Time only. I wish we could do both. (NT) -- mom, 05:45:35 09/22/09 Tue We waited around for hours and debated leaving but decided to stay. Should have left. We were the LAST comp. of the day to receive awards. Was awful (NT) -- Not going back, 06:27:32 09/22/09 Tue one of my dds was in the grades last year and stood for HOURS in line waiting to dance in a hot gym and in full costume..the bug drawback at the feis was the lack of organization. Several of the judges had to leave last year and that just made everything worse. Liam Harney's name alone will draw many top dancers to his feis, he should have a better venue and a plan B if things get out of hand. The feis should be held on a different weekend (NT) -- mom, 08:31:11 09/22/09 Tue My dd was in this line with yours. That was after being made to sit for over an hour on a bleacher, no room to warm up or stretch after all the sitting and standing in one place either. Sadly, it really was an organizational nightmare. (NT) -- --, 12:40:22 09/22/09 Tue We've done both and I would vote for Harvest - better venue, more organized, our placement experience better, etc. My only hesitation is, depending on the age of your dd and if she dances late in the day, it can be a long ride home on a Sunday night. The feis has a history of being disorganized and needs to be in a better venue. Don't love the venue but it's become extremely obvious that good venues are hard to find (and keep.) So I think we all need to learn to be less picky so we don't have one less feis. During last year's Harney feis marathon, I thought the same thing - set up a stage in the large cafe space and move things along! This feis has all the elements to be a great one, except for the venue/space issues! Hold awards somewhere else if necessary... At the NH State feis last spring, there was an extra dance floor for grades in the cafeteria, and isn't there another New England feis that uses adjacent middle and high schools (the one in North Attleboro maybe?). (NT) -- --, 18:32:33 09/22/09 Tue To use another school at same time requires paying rent for it plus paying another set of janitors & paying for more insurance. You'd probably end up having more judges too. And you'd need more volunteers to man all that other space. The list goes on and on. We're a different feis committee (not Harney), but we once considered that, but it was cost prohibitive. If you already registered but now realize you want to add the prelim set, please send it in with a note that you are adding this to an existing entry. The Holiday Inn is sold out but there is a Howard Johnson right across the road from the Holiday Inn. There is a link on our website. I will be posting a competitior list and schedule when they are available, probably a week or so before the feis. When it is posted, check your entry and email me right away if there are any changes/corrections. Solo grade dancers, we must have your email address for results. If you didn't include it on the entry card, please send it (with dancer's name and dances) to feis@mcloughlinschool.com We are going to be having a special raffle - stayed tuned for details. Stonehill College is a wonderful school. Several friends and family members have graduated and I know at least 10 current students. I don't know anything about the Irish dance club/team. So far, with one dd, that is a savings of $270 plus misc. expenses. Hoping this becomes a trend for us-the savings will surely come in handy for the next NATs.
