Does anyone have advice or insight into the design process? It does seem like the European designers take advantage of US customers unless you are in the know or part of a network! It is shocking and unreasonable to pay $3,000 for a new dress and not be satisfied with your purchase. We had a bad experience for several reasons and I'd just like to see if there was something we should have done differently. Many thanks!

Subject: BACK-TO-BACK SEPTEMBER FEIS WEEKEND IN MINNESOTA!

Author:
Mary T., Co-Chair, The Minnesota Feis 2018
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 20:54:23 08/20/18 Mon

On Saturday, SEPTEMBER 29, we invite you to join us at the St. Paul RiverCentre on the banks of the Mississippi River in beautiful downtown St. Paul, Minnesota, for THE MINNESOTA FEIS 2018 (visit our web site at http://www.theminnesotafeis.org/ for great information). And then stick around for the ST. PAUL AUTUMN FEIS, on Sunday, SEPTEMBER 30 http://www.idpamn.org/

Registration is through http://www.feisworx.com/ . Competition on Saturday will start at 8:30 AM (opening ceremonies at 8:15 AM); Sunday’s competition will begin at 8:00 AM. The Championship stage will proceed from OLDEST to YOUNGEST dancers.

We are offering Trophy Special Set Dance competitions that are open to BOTH Preliminary Champ dancers and Prizewinner dancers who are preparing dances for the Mid-America Oireachtas. For those in U9, it will be traditional set; U10 and above will be non-traditional set.

Our dance adjudicators for this year:
Kerry Broderick, New York
Colleen Coyle Kelly, Pennsylvania
Michael Patrick Gallagher, Arizona
Martin Percival, Colorado
Heather Timm, Ohio
John Timm, Ohio

**The treble reel is one of the most fun things to do at a feis, and we are again scheduling these to make participation easier: Champ treble reels will be held throughout the day, and Novice/Prizewinner treble reels will be right at the end of the scheduled lunch break. All treble reel proceeds from The Minnesota Feis will go to support Breast Cancer Research. NEW THIS YEAR at the St. Paul Autumn Feis is a Hornpipe Special dance in memory of Áine O’Shea. Proceeds from this special will be sent to St. Francis Hospice in Blanchardstown in Dublin for the love and care they gave to her in her final days. We encourage everyone to register for both these specials that support such worthy causes!

Admission is FREE to the public, so bring your family and friends. Also, if you are bringing someone who is a non-dancer, but SINGS OR PLAYS AN INSTRUMENT (or does these in addition to dance!) there is competition for them as well! Just use the Feisworx system to register. Arts and Soda Bread are in there, too.

In addition to “feising,” there are many things to see and do in St. Paul, Minneapolis, and the surrounding area, including:
--We were among the last to find out, but Justin Timberlake is in town, and not just to see his Minnesota in-laws! There are still tickets available for his Sept. 28 and 29 shows.
--The Science Museum of Minnesota https://www.smm.org/, across the street from the RiverCentre.
--If you have younger ones, the newly remodeled Minnesota Children’s Museum in downtown St. Paul https://mcm.org/
--After a massive restoration effort, the re-opening of the Minnesota State Capitol building, with the second largest self-supported marble dome in the world, free tours http://www.mnhs.org/capitol/activities/tours
--The Cathedral of St. Paul, National Shrine of the Apostle Paul, on the hill overlooking the RiverCentre. Named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the cathedral offers daily masses, and is open to visitors for sightseeing.
--St. Paul’s Lower Town is a rapidly growing area with shops, eateries, and the recently restored and re-opened major train hub, Union Depot. Restored to its 1920s grandeur, it’s worth a stop http://www.uniondepot.org/
--The nearby Mall of America https://www.mallofamerica.com/ with its vast array of shopping, dining, hotel, and entertainment experiences, including the indoor theme park Nickelodeon Universe and Sea Life Minnesota aquarium https://www2.visitsealife.com/minnesota/ only 15 minutes from the feis venue. NEW THIS YEAR: The water park hotel next to the Mall of America is now Great Wolf Lodge! https://www.greatwolf.com/minnesota
--One of the gems of St. Paul is Como Park, with the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory, one of the few free zoos in the United States (free parking, too!): http://www.comozooconservatory.org/
--Over in Minneapolis, we have the Mill City Museum, which has a very “explosive” elevator ride and great views of the Stone Arch Bridge and Mississippi River from its cantilevered viewing platform: http://www.millcitymuseum.org/
--The Walker Art Center Sculpture Garden in Minneapolis, with its famous Cherry on the Spoon (okay, it’s Spoonbridge and Cherry, but nobody calls it that). There is also a giant blue chicken now, which we haven’t quite figured out… https://walkerart.org/visit/garden
--Take a cruise on a Mississippi Riverboat with the historic Padelford Riverboats https://riverrides.com/ or along the scenic St. Croix River at the Minnesota-Wisconsin border with the St. Croix Boat & Packet Co. http://www.stillwaterriverboats.com/

To avoid the Timberlake price hikes, we have created a hotel block at the new Delta by Marriott hotel, just 12 minutes from the venue. The booking link is available on our website http://www.theminnesotafeis.org/area-hotels.html We are also trying to arrange a few others!

Lots of fun for everyone, we hope you can join us!

Does anyone have a list of the winners from prelim u13? We were there and didn’t catch all the names. Didn’t realize that marks wouldn’t have names/schools on them. That group is missing from their Facebook page. Thank you!

The 2018 New England Autumn Feis will be held on Sunday September 23rd in Whitman, MA and is NOW OPEN for registration on FeisWeb!

We are very excited to announce our NEW SECOND CHANCE COMPETITIONS for all Preliminary competitions. A completely different panel of judges will be provided for all 2nd Chance Competitions. This is a great way to SAVE time and money while extending the fun of the day!

We will also be offering Grade Exams Grades 1-12!!!! More info on this will be posted next week, so stay tuned in! Exams will take place on Saturday September 22nd in our nearby studio in Hanover.

Music and Adult Competitions are back again this year, as well as a Charity Treble Reel to benefit the Fighting Sullivan’s who will continue to fight cancer and support cancer research.

We have a fantastic raffle opportunity from AmyE Photography! Wait until you see these phenomenal photo shots and breath taking portfolio! Magazine quality shoots. Come check them out!

We will be featuring a new vendor this year who sells long lasting performance makeup. They will be offering make up services at the feis as well as giving instruction.
Get that perfect look down for Oireachtas!

Our competitions will be held in the beautiful and spacious Whitman-Hanson Regional High School, which has plenty of parking. We will again be offering a great menu featuring healthy and yummy food options served by our friendly volunteers. And don’t forget the Snowie Bus stopping by for some delicious frozen treats!

Hello,

I have been getting really bad blisters on all of my toes, both big toe and small. Wondering what people use on their toes and what brands? I have seen that there are a bunch of different sleeves or tapes. Thanks in advance!

Do you have a grade examiner in place yet? DD needs grade 11 and now note that we are locked out of McLoughlin because we were waiting for announcement of examiner from you. Will we hear soon? I checked fb and website and couldn't find it.

I was wondering if this is a big feis; how many stages do they usually have? Do the stages run on time?

Are the judges that are listed finalized or have there been substitutions?

Thanks so much for the help!

Feis Schedule is posted on our website (donganfeis.org)

Doors open at 8. Competitions begin promptly at 9.

Please leave extra time while traveling - there is a film shoot going on that shouldn’t interfere with you all driving to the Plaza, but we’re familiar with Murphy’s Law!
https://www.news10.com/news/local-news/film-production-to-close-roads-implement-detours-in-albany/1299258758

Directions from the Holiday Inn Express in downtown Albany to Plaza are posted on the Feis website.

Parking is $5 (have license ready - it's a state building).

There is a $10 admission fee at the door for adults. You will receive a wristband.

Bringing a dress to hang? Beat the line - fill out the form posted to our website. Please, cash only!

No chairs, food, or drink inside the rooms with dancing. There is plenty of space to sit and eat outside the rooms.

We'll update on Twitter and Facebook throughout the day - @donganfeis for Twitter
