Date Posted: Tuesday, April 22, 07:52:29pm Wonder if anyone remembers a deaf and dumb chief steward who did the shore job on BT tankers while in the Tyne? First trip and first jod he gave me was make a pot of tea, Off to the galley, got the water, boiled it up and made the tea. Poured him a cup only to see him spit it half way across the pantry. Good start to my career, No body told me there was a salt water tap in the galley. Ship was the old Br Power Six weeks on the coast before we took her for scrapping. Never seen so many cockroaches in my life. In fact had never seen a cockroach untill then Happy Days! Wonder it didn't put me off altogether.
