Pardon me for interjecting on discussions related to Lindsay Lohan and felines. I personally find myself at a crossroads (My ex bro-in-law's term, not mine) but as good as any other descriptor. Here's the deal: This rehab thing I went through, it, like virtually all of them as far as I know, relies on faith in a higher power in order to find sobriety. AA has 12 steps and I hit a brick wall at step 2.

"Step 2 Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity."

Forgive me for my vanity but I am not aware of a power higher than myself.

I was raised a Catholic, then a mormon, then...I guess you would call it a pentecostal. All Bible based. I ceased believing in the bible when I was about 15. Too many discrepancies.

Thirsty for a replenishment, I studied the Koran, Shinto, Hindu Upanishads, Buddhism, etc until I finally decided that they were all crap and that I would try to live a good life, adhering to social contracts and mores, and hope for the best. Out of the lot, I dug Zen Buddhism the most. Transcendental meditation had some benefits. But vow of silence? Please.

If anybody has any logic-based (read: non-faith based) arguments for organized religion I would be open to it. According to AA, my sobriety depends on it.

Thanks in advance.
