Nothing ever grows and the sun doesn’t shine all day
Tried to save myself but myself keeps slipping away

It had amazed him how quickly time had passed - once he had gotten through those first few days. He had thrown himself in to work - picking up extra shifts and added responsibility - and actually had found himself over here at least a few times a week. At first he felt a little bit like he was invading on their personal space, but Joey was the only other person who actually understood how he was feeling on a day-to-day basis. Plus, he tried to help out where the kids would let him - like tonight he was there with his arms full of Thai food for dinner for everyone. He still went out to his bar, but he was back to going only on Sunday nights, and only to talk with the 'tender and to drink. Leaving his car in the driveway - he no longer had to park his beloved car out on the street at least - he shoved his keys into his pockets before grabbing the food and heading up the walk. He knocked lightly at the door before letting himself him - if he came early enough in the evening, it was never locked yet - and pushed it shut with his toe, and then headed for the kitchen. He was coping, but there was still this dull ache in his chest that hadn't lessened or gone away and existed so prominently that he had actually gone to see his doctor to make sure there was nothing physically wrong with him. At least it served to remind him of the consequences of not holding onto something that you cared very deeply about... "Hello?"
