Subject: weddings through the regions

just got in from a wedding in south texas

lovey time was had

but there was a tradition I'd never seen before - the dollar dance.

folks pay a dollar to have a dance with the bride or groom.

I'm wondering if that is specific to south texas or if it's done in other parts of the country?

are there any specific things you guys do at weddings where you live?

[> Interesting. I've never heard of that. I've been to lots of weddings, but most of them have been Baptist and didn't have dancing. LOL -- JJ Ronda, 04:40:15 04/21/13 Sun [1]

[> One of my daughter's had a dollar dance at her wedding (in south Mississippi). it's a way guests can "help" the happy couple and it gives the bride and groom an opportunity to "mingle" with the guests. -- usmgrad, 11:37:30 04/21/13 Sun [1]

[> I've heard of this, but not often. I think it's a fun tradition. Most of the weddings I've been to were my mom's relatives who were mostly polish and catholic. There was a lot of bunny hopping and hokey-pokey-ing. -- The Chief, 18:58:30 04/21/13 Sun [1]

[> the future couple do a list of things they want or there is a box where you put an envelope w/a sum of money inside, there are games, there's often bad music too loud who gives me migraines and another annoying thing : we can't have a discussion .If there's one thing sure it's there wont be such things at my wedding. -- Laurence ( and I related a short part ), 04:31:58 04/22/13 Mon [1]

[> We did this at my wedding. It's called an Apron Dance. Both hubby and I wore aprons and folks put money in them to dance with us. A great way to get spending money for the honeymoon! -- Angela -- Mommy of 2 JAGlettes, 06:23:33 04/22/13 Mon [1]

[> I'll be darned - i grew up in suburban NYC and never saw any variation of that when all my friends were getting married -I wonder if it's something that's krept in up north since I moved away. Here the two brides maids held a crystal vase that folks put there money into - the apron makes more sense!! -- chris k, 12:58:01 04/23/13 Tue [1]

[> At my cousins wedding in Spain the brides garter and the groom's tie were cut into pieces and guests "bought" a piece and the money went towards the honeymoon. My cousins husband didn't know this and he was wearing his favourite tie. -- MacToo, 14:34:42 04/23/13 Tue [1]
