yes after all these years we still gather together once a year to share friendships and drool over harm - : )

this year it's in Dallas the weekend of May 17-19

generally- folks start arriving through out the day on Friday - and the first event starts with dinner that night - Saturday morning the marathons begin - since shifting from my house to mabsie's we've started doing a saturday night cookout that everyoe enjoys - Sunday morning is brunch and many folks start making their way back out of town - but the stragglers hang out until after dinner -

locals drive back and forth all weekend, out of towners/ staters stay at the same hotel a five minute drive from the host house so there's lots of carpools for folks who fly in -

the crowd isn't as big as it used to be but we're still going strong

I've bought dolls lamp, kitchen canisters. A friend of mine bought miniature perfume bottles. I wished I could bring back some wonderful furniture. Farewell to a Spud-pup -- Spud, 13:54:55 02/04/13 Mon [13]
In the morning, I will bid farewell to Bruno, my 15-year old dog. In the past two weeks he has declined and it is time to let him cross the Rainbow Bridge and join Riddler, Jake and the other Spud-pups who preceded him.

I will miss him and the other Spud-pups will miss him, but it is time to let him go.

What is your favorite comfort food? Does your comfort food vary depending on your emotions or physical condition? Is your favorite comfort food different in the winter than the summer?

Some studies have suggested that consumption of comfort foods are triggered in men by positive emotions and in women by negative, stressful emotions. Also that men prefer meal-related comfort foods (i.e., steaks, casseroles) while women's comfort foods tend to be snack related (i.e., chocolate, ice cream). Do you agree?

I just had a very odd thing happen with my mother - who is in her late seventies

she still works in her retirement -
today she and my daughter set up for a trade show tomorrow

tonight - at 9:30 - in the pitch black pouring rain she showed up at our house and rang the bell - she thought it was tomorrow morning at 9:30

she said she fell asleep, woke up, saw the time on her watch and scrambled to get out the door.

I can understand that - we all have had some point or other when we wake up and are dioriented, confused.

but to drive 20 minutes in the pitch black and not realize it is NOT daytime?

How worried should I be about this?

  - my mom and daughter just left a few minutes ago for the show today- my daughter is going to keep a more alert eye on her to see if there are other things we've been missing. - Has she had any change in medication? My 83 year old mother was prescribed a pain killer and muscle relaxer for chronic back pain and they caused extreme confusion. - She definetly needs to see a Dr. This sounds like she had some kind of mini stroke. My MIL has them every once in a while and can be confused from anywhere to a few minutes to an hour. She's 92, but she has been having them since she was in her late 70's. She is in great physical shape, but her mind is going. I would have her checked by a Dr. IMHO!! - I would keep a close eye on her. It was only after my grandmother got a ticket for driving on the wrong side of the road (she claimed she was in a turn lane--but there was no turn lane and it was a road she had been driving on for decades), that we started hearing stories from other people about how they wouldn't ride with her any more because she would fall asleep at the wheel! - Sounds like she could have had a TIA - mini stroke that messed up her sense of time and these types of strokes correct themselves but are a warning for something much worse. I hope shes okay but she does need to be seen and scanned. (NT) -- Codedriver, 11:49:58 01/12/13 Sat
- In elderly people it could be something as simple as a urinary tract infection causing behavioral changes. I would definitely have her checked out by her PCP. Also have her take her thyroid meds at night before bed. Most people do that if it causes side effects. It should only do that until her TSH levels out. Make sure her dr does a TSH level too. The gift of giving! A story: I had baked some apple, cranberry walnut loaves for several people in the community and gave them out last week before it gets too busy and crazy. Plus, with a Dutch husband, we celebrate 'Sinterklaas' as much as Christmas and it felt 'right' to give presents last week. inside -- mj, 10:07:19 12/11/12 Tue [11]
Well, I'll tell you -- you just never know how much the little things mean to people. One of the ladies just called me thanking me SO much for the delicious bread and told me that she's basically been surviving on it for the past 10 days as she was so 'skint' last week, she could only buy milk, tea, sugar, and some eggs. With those items and my bread, she was able to keep going! She does nails and some clothes alterations here in the neighborhood, but, had to have an operation a few weeks back, which interrupted her income flow. She's now working more steadily, but, after helping to pay for one of her children's weddings, she was really low on funds. Anyway, one can never know what effect the time and trouble to give a thoughtful present can have! Merry Christmas!

The jean for example isn't an outfit to wear when you're a ministre because you're an influential & hightly placed person. In life there are rules of etiquette to respect ! OBITUARY FOR THE LATE MR. COMMON SENSE

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense,who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and Maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6 year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get Parental consent to administer Calpol, sun lotion, or a band-aid to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.
He is survived by his 3 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

At TONIGHT's NASCAR race, the VA National Guard 29th INF DIV Band will be playing the National Anthem. One of those Tuba Players will be my oldest son. :-D

ESPN - coverage starts at 7pm, but a line of thunderstorms passing thru the area between 7 & 8 will probably delay the start and the anthem. Original time for anthem was 7:40, but will probably be closer to 8.

Hubster and I celebrated our 20th anniversary last week by selecting a vacation trip to a resort in the Ocho Rios area of Jamaica (we have a wonderful travel agent who found a fantastic place). We will be there for 6 days, and I know my hubby will want to get out and explore a bit.

- My DH and I went there when we were both young and way better looking....LOL. That was in 1972. We had some fun (and scary) experiences, but I thought that Jamaica was simply beautiful. The snorkeling in Montego Bay has never been beaten. Stunning! And climbing up Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios was wonderful. The food was great too. Everyone was slow moving, but we learnt to relax and get used to the pace. Oh read The White Witch of Rosehall while you are there, then go and see the house.
