Subject: Comfort Foods. . . .

What is your favorite comfort food? Does your comfort food vary depending on your emotions or physical condition? Is your favorite comfort food different in the winter than the summer?

Some studies have suggested that consumption of comfort foods are triggered in men by positive emotions and in women by negative, stressful emotions. Also that men prefer meal-related comfort foods (i.e., steaks, casseroles) while women's comfort foods tend to be snack related (i.e., chocolate, ice cream). Do you agree?

[> Depends on what's going on. If I'm sick, it's homemade chicken noodle soup or chicken & noodle with a thick broth. If I'm ecstatic & celebrating, it's a luscious dessert. -- doc, 08:40:50 01/19/13 Sat [1]

[> Yeah, this sounds like me. A nice cup of coffee and a sweet snack -- probably something with chocolate -- will fill the bill nicely. In hot weather, it might be a Mountain Dew instead, with something salty. -- Deemus, 09:41:43 01/19/13 Sat [1]

[> I'm a chip and dip person - whether I've had a hard day and want to unwind or am planning a fun night with friends - I love things like crackers and crab dip, chips and queso, I've learned to substitue cucumber slices for chips with quacamole or humus and sometimes I'll have shrimp and sauce instead to avoid the carbs and calories - but I'm definitely a muncher. -- chris k, 15:51:32 01/20/13 Sun [1]

[> I'm a sucker for a 'homemade' anything to make me feel 'at home' . inside -- mj, 01:54:05 01/21/13 Mon [1]

Living in 6 countries and travelling so much, food seems to make me feel better and when I find something local that is delish, it makes me happy. Of course, I've managed to find the most fattening foods in every country I've ever visited or lived in ! Haha! For example, stroopwafels and Boschbol (like a large chocolate- covered profiterole, but filled with pure whipped cream-not custard) in Holland, as well as all the fantastic Dutch cheeses, gaufres (big hot wafels) and frites (large french fries) in Belgium, blini with cream and fresh strawberry jam and pirogs (vegetable--mainly cabbage or meat filled pies) in Russia, thin crispy pizza and all kinds of Italian pastries and cookies in Italy, Atholl Brose in Scotland, fish 'n chips, fresh scones with clotted cream and marmalade, cornish pasties and ice cream, anything from Burroughs Market in England. I tell you -- my life in food!

[> [> I know what pasties are! My grandmother was from Cornwall. Pasties are one of my father's (her son) favorite dishes. She also started us on Shepherd's Pie. We make stroopwafels every Christmas in honor of my Dutch great grandparents. All of those are some rather tasty treats! Unfortunately they aren't on my diet now, especially pasties with my mother flakey & BUTTERY pie crust! -- doc, 09:58:44 01/21/13 Mon [1]

[> Vanilla Ice Cream with Hershey Syrup. I eat it whether I'm happy or sad. And when I'm sick. It's my favorite food. Steak is my second favorite! -- Cathy F., 09:46:11 01/21/13 Mon [1]

[> Comfort and food, really do I need to say more? Chocolate is a must, it cures whatever ails you. Then there's those times that call for something salty, Ruffles potato chips fill the bill. But this time of year it's Girl Scout cookies, will perk up any bodies mood. -- usmgrad, 10:00:01 01/22/13 Tue [1]

[> I must be a man. However, I've just found out I won't be able to eat my comfort food ever. I've been diagnosed with celiac's so no more gluten. Huge sigh. There's no great substitute for my fave's. Still, no biggy. i'll do what I have to do and try not to think of yorkshire pud with gravy. . -- Cece...ticked off that a disease has been named after me., 04:43:07 02/04/13 Mon [1]
