The new test that is going to be done on all newborns regardless of their gestational age is the pulse oximetry. We will be checking the oxygen saturation of all newborns. The reason is to check for congentital heart abnormalities. Maybe doc can explain it better than me. The State of PA hasn't come out with the final guidelines as yet, but we are testing different pulse ox machines. It is a harmless test as it does not involve any kind of invasive procedure or blood test, just a probe on all four extremities.

It is good that your grandson has had this while in the hospital and I pray that the doctors can diagnose his problem and he goes home healthy.
