I haven't been around much lately. Things have been very hectic in the Casa de Gatos since we retired last year. I didn't know it would be busier than working!

We are still doing a lot of volunteer work with the local no kill cat shelter. Out there about 20 hours a week each, doing everything from planning fundraising events to cleaning up cat poop. Amazing the work you will do for free that you would never consider doing for pay. We love all our "kids" there. Every cat there has a forever home even if it is never adopted, and the best and most loved life we volunteers and staff can give it.

Unfortunately, we've had a few setbacks in other areas of our lives. Our summer house in CT got trashed (Irene), and unfortunately, we didn't know about it for a few months. But no one got hurt, and it's at least semi under control (tho not paid for by ins yet!) at the moment. I am managing to fight off a Christmas onset bout of pneumonia thanks to antibiotics and steroids.

One thing some of our issues since we have retired have taught us, is to live in the now, to be present for every moment.

We never were. We were the little ant who always saved for a rainy day, worried about the future, and planned planned planned. And all that is great. But it can be over done. We never learned to live for the day, to enjoy the fruits of our labors, to see the sunshine. Now, we are finding we are not really sure how to do so.

So, my New Years "Revolution" as my niece used to call it--well, when she was four, she's about to get her Master's, how did that happen?--is to live every moment in the moment from now on.

I'll let you all know how it turns out.

[> [> And a very good "revolution"/resolution it is! I have to say, 2012 just HAS to be better than 2011. We just have to be optimists! -- jan, 07:40:25 01/01/12 Sun [1]

[> [> Sounds like it will be not only a "revolutionary" year but a "relavatory" year as well, as you strive to learn a new way to live. Fortunately, you DID play the ant and not the grasshopper and can now make more choices than many others can make. Maybe you'll write/blog about your journey - it could be helpful to others -- The Chief, 21:28:38 01/09/12 Mon [1]

[> Happy New Year to my fellow Harmies! CM I agree with your Revolution!! 2011 was a stressful year for our family. So many of them have been sick and near death. Here's to a healthy, prosperous and momentous 2012!! -- Angela -- Mommy of 2 JAGlettes, 16:19:19 01/01/12 Sun [1]

[> Great to hear from you, CM! And I love your 'revolution' too. When you have to slow down, you actually have time to think about whats really important....and do it!!! My sister retired this year and shes still amazed how busy she is now, but the difference is shes doing what she wants to do, not what she has to do. You go girl! Hope youre feeling better. -- mkim, 19:55:39 01/01/12 Sun [1]
