Their over the top doom and gloom rhetoric is damaging our society. They seem so certain that any additional government spending will sink the country into this black hole of socialism we can't get out of. It's ridiculous. Yes, we need to tighten up our fiscal house but what most tea partiers don't know (as well as the vast majority of Americans) is that raising the social security retirement age a couple of years (and medicare) would nearly end any of our long/short term debt or deficit problems. But listening to them speak, you would think that the end is near if we don't implement their radical ideology. Reducing government to ineffectiveness is exactly how we collapse our great society. It doesn't leave the power in the people's hands, it leaves multi-national, multi-billion dollar, for-profit corporations with all the power to affect people's lives. And they'll always put people before profit... right.
