Gun control works as well as the war on drugs and the fight to stop drinking and driving. The problem is the media. You hear about the gun deaths, but you don't hear about the drugs or the drunk drivers (unless they happen in your immediate neighborhood. You hear about 20 children shot and killed, but did you hear about the 20+ children killed by drunk drivers that same week? Did you hear about the 20+ overdoses? If the media would report all of the drunk driving deaths all over the US each day, then people would be calling for a ban on alcohol or a ban on cars. Most overdoses don't make the news because it isn't news worthy. If you heard about all of the overdoses that happen everyday in the US people would be in a uproar.

If you ban assault rifles, then people will go back to modifying guns or using something else. This is just like trying to ban a type of dog because some people are scared of them and don't know how to handle them. It is the people, not the gun or the animal.

Don't get me wrong, this was a horrible incident. I haven't shot a gun in 30 years, but telling others they can't own guns is not the answer. I have never owned an assault rifle, but banning them will solve nothing. Drugs are illegal, but I can take you door to door and show you who has them. I bet you know people who have now or who sometime have illegal drugs. Drinking and Driving is illegal. Have you ever seen a drunk driver? Have you ever drank and drove? Do you know someone that has? So making something illegal is only going to stop the person that abides by the law.
