I think you will find that diesel prices spiked in response to the EPA regulations requiring ultra low sulfur content. True to the brilliant thinking of fascistic government bureaucrats, the rationale was, "We will make this rule and it will force the refiners to modify their facilities to make what we want them to make". They were wrong. It would have cost American refiners billions of dollars to change their refineries so they took the path of least resistance. They now EXPORT the diesel they refine domestically to places that want what they make. They now import the expensive low sulfur diesel you are forced to buy from overseas refineries (EUROPE) that had already been forced to make the change by European socialists.

Given that the regulatory goal of less SO2 in the atmosphere (at least in the USA) is more important than the state of the US economy, to call this a 'spike' in prices is incorrect. This pricing will continue until the regulation is reversed or new refineries are permitted in the United States.

So if you want somebody to blame for your high diesel fuel costs, I suggest you look no further than the offices of the EPA.

Who did you vote for?
