I would think at the very least we would learn parts of the story as Mac uncovers more info. Also there is Alina's missing journal, which if recovered would tell the story from her point of view. Who has that journal anway??? Darroc? A rhino boy with a love of reading or Barrons?

I'm one of those people who are disinclined to keep reading after she already knows that ending is going to be bad, I have this feeling that if I just stop reading at a point when everything is good then maybe (just maybe) the character won't ever reach that really bad part. And the end of Alina's story is a really, really bad part.
