- I just listened to DF for the 4th time! It was on a long drive between here and San Francisco for the weekend. (For a Little League Game, no less!). Anyway, I got even more out of it this time. I can't believe how many readings it takes for me to catch on. Anyway ... -- claudia_celestial_girl "Want to Drive?" "Just Kidding.", 01:02:32 06/10/07 Sun [9]
Four things hit me this time around. It might be a stretch, but here goes:
- 1) At the end of DF, JB suggested that Mac couldn't be sure that the Lord Master had killed Alina. And someone below mentioned that Malluce had to "disappear" because of someone's orders that he couldn't dare refuse... I've been wondering about the following things: a) nobody could identify Alina's boyfriend at Trinity College, but there were these photos of Alina and The Lord Master in the collection. Somebody took those pictures of the two of them together, and it couldn't have been any of Alina's friends because they couldn't tell Mac what he looked like. Might the person who took the pictures have been someone The Lord Master knew??? b) If there is a second person who the Lord Master was working with (The Dark King???), that could be the person who had Alina killed and/or who Malluce was reporting to. (OK, I know, It's hard to imagine the Dark King handling a camera and taking the photos with Alina & boyfriend, but maybe it was an associate of Darrocs.) I'm just saying that, there might have been a second man, someone over the Lord Master, or tangential to the Lord Master.
- 2) Alina must have been onto something. Mac says that Alina was VERY smart, and was a literature major - someone who wanted to get a Ph.D. in English lit. We know that both Alina and Mac are Sidhe-seers and Nulls, so Alina must have started seeing Fae once she got to Dublin, and started investigating what that was all about. I suspect that Alina probably realized that she was adopted, and that she and Mac were being protected. I also suspect that it was Alina who first started searching for the Sinsar Dubh (that English lit interest), and then she met the Lord Master, who used her powers to help him find it. I think that with Alina's help they did find it - and that he (or the second man) has it now (in the car?). Once she was no longer useful to them, once they got the Sinsar Dubh, they killed her. But if there is another player besides the Lord Master, then it might have been the second man who killed Alina. But Alina wrote everything down in her journal(s), and eventually I'm convinced, that Mac will find them.
- There is a part, in DF, where Mac gets a real imprint of Alina: how confused Alina was, how Alina became 'tempered in Dublin's forge', & learned hard lessons. I thought that was really powerful. Didn't before connect with Alina's story.
- in the description of BArron's Books and BAubles, it mentions that there is a big mural on the ceiling. Might that mural give some clues about the origin of JB???? I keep thinking that JB was 'spawned in a cataclysm of nature' just as Mac first suspected when she met him for the first time. ;-)
OK. That the end of my crazy ramblings.

- Oh Claudia you are SO good!OK-I believe there is someone working with Darroc too.In Immortal he is working with Queen Aiobheal's consort Mael. And at the end of Immortal when Darroc is getting his punishment it says on pg.320 "While the queen was occupied with summoning her guard to escort Darroc to the human realm and bring in her consort Mael, whom Darroc had betrayed as his acomplice,Adam quietly tensed to sift out"Never does it say what actually happened to Mael. And on pg.333 in Immortal she says she should have resisted her Councils counsel and ploted her own course. And she would henceforth because of the betrayal of those closes to her.Like I said i don't know what Mael's fate was but I do think maybe him and other Counsil are may be helping Darroc. (NT) -- Shellw, 11:18:39 06/10/07 Sun
- OH!!!While you are re-reading Immortal look at pg.289.The Queen is telling Adam..."Do you have any idea what you've done?Do you know that already humans have begun slipping through the fabric of place and time where the old magic lies falow?"I wonder about this.Since the dolmens have opened, even for that short time, what kind of things could have gotten in or what kind of things could have gotten out. (NT) -- Shellw, 16:08:52 06/10/07 Sun
- Wow, just love the theories and possibilities that you two have come up with. I totally forgot about Mael. As to the missing pictures, I believe that Darroc found them and has kept them, maybe Alina did touch his heart in some ways. I believe that Alina was so deeply in love w/ Darroc that she didn't realize what was truly going on around her til the end, when she saw that Darrow was helping the Unseelie and was brutally betrayed by her lover in the end. hey everyone...i got a little carried away yesterday and i lost my train of thought! the thing i really wanted to say was in Spell, we learned that the evil man (Lucian i think was his name), met with a man that had rubbings of the dark book...doesn't jericho have rubbings? if so, do ya'll think that jericho was the man that he met with? if the dark book is mia, i wouldn't think that many people would have rubbings of the page.

It would tie up things well if Lucian had met with JB. If that was true, I think Lucian knew where the book was at the end of spell. JB is a fairly smart guy, I would have thought he would know more about where the book was if, of course, Lucian actually knew where the book was.
Also, could JB be a vampire himself? Several things.... he never goes out during the day, he's got the shades at bay, he's got AMAZING strength, he doesn't believe Mallace is a real vampire, he has avoided the question on how to kill a vampire, he takes the sewers everywhere, he tells Mac HER world is going to hell, and he refused to touch the spear of destiny, which wounded Mallace. If you have any other thoughts on this, let me know. Just throwing ideas out there.

- There is something fishey between Malluce and JB, but I haven't figured it out yet. I just can't accept that JB is a vampire. I can't put my hands on it yet, but something tells me JB is not like anyone else (he has made this point himself, and I believe him). He's got that whole electrical thing going on. Also - don't forget that he had human blood on his hands when Mac first met him (I know that is a count FOR vampire). ;-) On the rubbings - I think Lucan had the rubbings, probably created them himself, then the night that Lucan died, somebody raided Lucan's vault and a few days later a bunch of stuff appeared on the black market. JB says that he picked up quite a few goodies when that happened, and beat Malluce out on an auction, but the big ticket items were already gone. I suspect that is where JB got (one set??) of the rubbings, but the Dark Book elluded him. My musings for the night. (NT) -- claudia_celestial_girl "Want to Drive?" - Oh yeah - someone below suggested that it was probably Darroc who met Lucan in Spell. I think I agree with that. I think Darroc has been one step ahead of JB. (NT) -- claudia_celestial_girl "Want to Drive?" "Just Kidding.", 00:25:46 06/10/07 Sun

Okay...I just got finished re-reading The Spell of the Highlander. At the end of the book I think it's setting up for Darkfever. The Queen is in the Kelter house talking about her "Five MacKelters" and the future five years. We know about the twins and Cian, so does that mean there are two we have yet to met...I think that one of these may be Christopher and Maggies son b/c in Spell he is already a teenager. Who is the other?? Also, Cian sees the queen, but doesn't say anything. I am going crazy waiting for this freaking book! I am already on countdown!

I think that JB is a Sidh Seer. In Dark Highlander Aiobeal said that since the compact seers were no longer hunted and killed but belonged to the Fae. I think JB was taken by the Fae and given the elixer of immortality. I think the cuff and torque he wears signifies what Fae house he belongs to. V'Lane was trying to get Mac to wear a cuff in DF. It may protect the wearer from unseelie but I think it some how binds you to the Fae.
[ Post a Reply to this Message ][ Edit | View ]
Replies:
- I agree with the theory that the cuff binds the wearer to the fae. I think JB may be part Druid and I think he lives because he has been cursed somehow by the Unseelie this is just my opionion. I think that is why he hunts the Dark Book looking for a way to break his curse. (NT) -- Cheryle , 20:04:28 06/07/07 Thu
- Very good theory Aislynn, thanks for sharing. So can't wait for Bloodfever.... (NT) -- Maria , 20:28:50 06/07/07 Thu
- I think JB is a Druid. And we know that the Druids are not necessarily able to see the Unseelie, nor the Seelie. There is some other power that JB has that allows him to be a Sidhe-seer. But I'm not convinced that it is because he is Fae. Remember, Mac is a Null, and so anytime she touches JB with her hands, he would be frozen. But Mac does not affect him that way. So WHAT other power does JB possess? From Whence does that power come? hmmmmm! I'm toying with the idea that he derives some of his powers from an elemental earth diety, and so he can see the Fae because they are unearthly. (Remember he said - 'you didn't think they were native, did you?' But that is just one of my wacky theories. There is no evidence, yet, that my hunch is more than just that. Oh yeah, one more thing about JB and the Fae-like ability to 'sift-place'. We've seen JB do lots of things that "resemble" sifting place, but him jumping to roof-tops and back down again doesn't seem Fae-like to me. -- claudia_celestial_girl Poof, Ms Lane?, 20:36:01 06/07/07 Thu
- JB? -- highland lass, 14:44:41 06/07/07 Thu [5]
I'm confused by something. Does JB actually say that he sees unseelie? There are several times that that he asks about what Mac sees in the shadows. He does stab the gray man, but it happens to have Mac up in the air. It's also frozen. Second, why can't he see/sence the hallows? Could it be that he may be a druid, but maybe it was learned recently. He knows quite a bit about the "hidden" world. There is a moment where JB and Fiona where talking and Mac was eavesdropping. He did something at the end of the conversation to her to make her complacent. What if he was Darroc? Just a question. Also, who the heck is fiona, or maybe what?
[ Post a Reply to this Message ][ Edit | View ]
Replies:
- See I am not sure that he really does see the unseelie. He seemed more then surprised when Mac could see the Shades and seemed like she needed to point him in the general directions. I don't think he is Darroc, I think they are two seperate people. I am thinking that is possible that Fiona is a former lover of his because she is so jealous. I think maybe she has aged and he hasn't and maybe that is part of the reason the realtionship did not work out. That is my best guess anyway. (NT) -- Cheryle , 20:07:20 06/07/07 Thu
- But remember at the end of the book that Mac said that she and JB would spent hours discussing the castes of the Unseelie that came out of the Dark Doorway? That made it seem like both of them could see the Unseelie. Also, remember that when they were hunting the Grey Man, that JB saw it first, and also said "Bloody Hell' when the Grey Man turned around and looked directly at Mac. Also, I personallly believe that the Lord Master is Darroc. (NT) -- claudia_celestial_girl Poof, Ms Lane?, 20:21:18 06/07/07 Thu
- I agree w/ Cheryle on this one. Darroc is the Dark Master, and JB is druid/alpha something... (NT) -- Maria , 20:31:29 06/07/07 Thu
- Doing a little sleuthing, and looking into the full moon. On a hunch I decided to figure out if there was a correlation between JB sightings and the full moon. There is one place where McCabe tells JB that its almost a full moon out there, and 'things can get dangerous.' It's about a week later, I think, that they kill the Grey Man, and about a week later that we arrive at the end of the book, and JB is painting Mac's nails. (and the start of the booklet). So as far as I can tell, there is no relationship between the presence of a full moon, and the absence of JB. Though there are nights when we don't see JB. -- claudia_celestial_girl "Want to Drive?" - Oh Oh full moon maybe the noises Mac heard, as you know I think JB is cursed but you never know. Full moon may = werewolf? (NT) -- Cheryle , 08:03:24 06/06/07 Wed
- Yes! I think B is cursed. But I don't think he is a werewolf. I haven't figured it out yet, maybe a demon of some sort. It breaks my heart to think of him down there. I'm thinking that if he gets his hands on the sinsar Dubh that he'll try to un-curse himself. BTW - what was Fiona doing hanging around in the vicinity of the store on Sunday?? Bucher shop my ...petunia! (NT) -- claudia_celestial_girl Poof, Ms Lane?, 10:24:15 06/06/07 Wed
- the thing with the full moon is this: The night McCabe mentions a full moon, JB is out and is 'himself' whatever that is. A couple of weeks later when, from the booklet we know there are 'sounds,' there is no full moon. In fact, I just thought of something, it would have been New Moon - that is no moon at all. But that probably doesn't mean anything. The point is that on at least one occassion when we hear weird sounds, there is no Full Moon out. So the likelyhood of the curse being of a werewolf nature goes down, in my mind anyway. (NT) -- claudia_celestial_girl Poof, Ms Lane?, 10:29:35 06/06/07 Wed
- You are probably right. A Demon would be cool. I agree I think he wants the Book to uncurse himself. As far as Fiona, that jealous woman she is at the bookstore because she can't stand the thought of Mac being with JB in any sense of the word. I wanna know whats with her. I hope Bloodfever reveals more about her relationship to JB so I can understand her a bit better. (NT) -- Cheryle , 10:09:04 06/07/07 Thu
- Comment made by JB about Malluce -- Deja, 18:59:18 06/07/07 Thu
- NO, no relationship w/ the moon and JB. JB is a night owl of some sort, where he sleeps and really lives during the day is beyond me. JB could be hiding out somewhere warded, secluded, where he can recharge. (NT) -- Maria , 20:35:41 06/07/07 Thu
- I completely Loved the Bloodfever booklet - from beginning to end. I have several favorite parts of it, including the part where Jericho shows up (in broad daylight, no less). Loved Inspector O'Duffy. Remember that line: "Our Patty's a good cop." Knew he was coming back. Loved seeing Mac's reaction to JB's driver's liscence! Loved V'Lane. He is such a nice guy ... er, Fae. What's all the fuss about him? It's all just a big misunderstanding with him before. I think Mac should choose him over JB. I think (seriously) - maybe V'Lane is jealous of Adam Black's success with Human women? Wants to have a successful relationship with one himself. What a nice guy... er, Fae. **Sigh.** -- claudia_celestial_girl "What to Drive?" "Just Kidding.", 00:30:50 06/05/07 Tue [6]

- I think that the V'Lane scene in the booklet can only be described as 'sexual harassment' in the traditional sense - with a little coersion going on. I've been through a couple of episodes like that myself in the past few decades. Well... not at 4 am with shadows scattered about, if you know what I mean. But with the threat that non-compliance would have consequences. So I'm not real happy with V'Lane right now. (NT) -- claudia_celestial_girl "Want to Drive?" "Just Kidding.", 16:23:35 06/05/07 Tue
- Of course, he could be Seelie and just not very politically correct. He might not have gotten the memo, nor completed his workplace sexual harassment training for 2007 (like me). He might be, like he said, trying really hard to get the cultural thing down so that he can bond with a real live, beautiful, Human woman. Hmmmm. (I'm dying to know the answer on this one). He could be like an early version of Adam Black, the one who wanted his pretty toy and didn't really know what 'love' meant. The bi-cultural modern person in me wants to give the guy a chance. But there's a common sense part that's going - Cuff of Cruce?? Can we define exactly what its powers are? Just how cursed is it??? Didn't Darroc, AND Adam Black, AND every other royal Fae we've been told about like to 'toy' with Human women, and isn't part of the seduction to be charming for a while? Sorry to sound bitter, but I've been around that block a couple of times. Gabby was lucky, and Adam is on a journey. -- claudia_celestial_girl "Want to Drive?" "Just Kidding.", 16:42:39 06/05/07 Tue

- Seelie and Unseelie Hallows -- Carol H, 16:16:04 06/04/07 Mon [6]
Hi everyone. My boss and I are avid readers of Karen's novels. Anyway, we have questions that need answers and we have apparently missed seeing them in the books so any help would be appreciated. (1. Who, up until now, has/had been keeping the hallows safe? It was our thought that it was Circenn as we believe he had the Spear and the Sword of Light. We know he threatened Adam with it; yet in Darkfever, Mac goes with J.B. and steals the Spear. So at some point it made its way from Scotland to Ireland.(2. Is there any mention of how these hallows were stolen? And, did the good guys ever have any 'unseelie' hallows in their possession for safekeeping? (3. Did the MacKeltars ever keep these things or are they just keepers of the Compact? (4. Was there any other clue other than at the end of "Spell" that things were amiss in the (Seelie) Fae world? Thanks!!!!!

- I was thinking that maybe the reason JB went all weird in the room with O'Bannion (he felt uncomfortable, and wasn't all 'there') - might it have been the presence of all the holy symbolism? I was thinking that one reason he never touched the Spear was that it might have been something that touched Christ - Seelie hallow or not. -- claudia_celestial_girl Poof, Ms Lane?, 17:38:00 06/04/07 Mon [5]
I'm sort of playing with the idea that JB is one of those gods, or a descendant of one of the ancient gods that one of Mac's books from the Library spoke of. Also Kells, below, mentioned something about it. There's this Book in Invasions, mentioned in Darkfever, and it talks about all the invaders to Ireland (presumably) that pre-dated the Tuatha De Danaan - like the Fir Bolg; the Q-Celtic Goidelic people; and the Parthlonians.
I'm just wondering if he is sensitive to holy things, since he seems to think himself 'damned'.

Q. Will we see the MacKeltars again?
A. Yes. In fact, you'll see a few you recognize as the FEVER series unfolds, and in the next installment, BLOODFEVER, you'll meet a new one.
Q. Will we see Darroc again?
A. Yes! Feel free to write to me and tell me when you do. And if you have theories about who (or what) some of the people in the FEVER series really are, I've got a new message board here for discussion!
FAQ: I noticed that physicist Gwen Cassidy originally worked for Triton Corp (before her Great Fit of Rebellion) the company that funded her research that nearly culminated in a weapon of mass destruction. I noticed also that The Belthew Building, the headquarters for the Druid sect of the Draghar, is owned by Triton Corp. What's going on here?
Back story for a future story.
Also, does anyone else see a similarity between the names MacKayla and MacKelter? Kind of makes you wonder doesn't it?

The message is addressed to 'Dear Reader' from KMM, the timeframe is 2003. I'd originally intended to start next on Adam Black's story but I find myself temporarily detoured into another story... Here're a few ingredients of the work in progress: a stubborn, intelligent herione who gets drawn into a quest against her will when she comes into possession of a most unusual artifact; a powerful, mysterious, darkly sexual Highlander is trying to help her ... or kill her ...; and a fascinating mystery, the key to which has been hidden for centuries in an ancient Scottish chapel.
?!?!?!
This sound like Mac to me - stubborn and intelligent (Mac is pretty smart even though she talks about fashion all the time.) Drawn into a quest against her will - well, she could always have gone home to Georgia, but I accept that she believes she got drawn into against her will. Powerful. Mysterious. Darkly sexual Highlander - now that sounds like any of KMM's heroes, but only Dageus, Cian, and JB are 'darkly' sexual. (Am I wrong about that?) And maybe only JB is that way, because Cian was 'dark' in a different way, and she'd already written about Dageus. Tyring to help her or kill her... I'm re-reading Darkfever now and counting how many times JB threatens to kill Mac. ...comes into possession of a most unusual artifact??? As soon as Mac got The Spear (which she felt she was tricked into taking, and killed O'Bannion, then she felt she was drawn into the situation against her will. So maybe it all fits, and there is a fantastic clue there about the location of the Sinsar Dubh!

- Were JB & Malluce friends? -- claudia (celestial girl!), 01:31:14 05/13/07 Sun [3]
I was thinking about the passage where JB + Mac enter Malluce's chamber for the first time. Mac mentions that later she would learn that 'nothing was what it seemed that night' - that something was nagging her about the way that JB addressed Malluce, but she couldn't put her finger on it, that she would learn that JB had an assurance that they would get out of there alive, and it was not because he had all that financial information on Malluce.
Could it be that JB was working with Malluce to undermine the Lord Master? (Malluce had an OoP without the Lord Master's knowledge). That JB had an arrangement with Malluce, that night, to let Mac feel her way around, but didn't expect Mac to find an OoP & steal it? That eventually, later, when Malluce threatened Mac's life, JB killed him?
Even though I love JB, I get the feeling that there is another shoe that will drop about him. Love JoJo's theory about him being half-fae.

Lasses,
I still think when Oct. comes we will find that Seers are decendents of a breeding between a mortal and a Fae so I've got a few theories on the origin of Seers and JB I want your opinions on.
Theory # 1 = MAYBE ADAM WAS "NOT" THE ONLY FAE TO HAVE A SURVIVING OFFSPRING FROM SUCH A RELATIONSHIP AS THOUGHT??
# 2 = MAYBE ADAM HAD ANOTHER OFFSPRING BESIDES CIRCENN AND HIS new CHILD WITH GABBY THAT WAS HIDDEN FROM HIM. Remember after Jolyn died he started to care for nothing but he did stop mating. He just loved them and left them. Maybe he left one pregnant?
# 3 = Could there be another child THAT WAS TAKEN AT BIRTH AND RAISED ELSEWHERE...Could Circenn have had a twin (Jericho) kidnapped at birth by Jolynn's husband orders (revenge because for the affair that produced Circenn)
# 4 = Was there a twin or another child kidnapped BY ANOTHER FAE because AS WE HAVE FIGURED OUT all of them were jealous of Adam's status with the Queen and the partiality he felt for mortals. What again was the REAL REASON ADAM SCARRED DARROC'S FACE? WAS IT OVER A MORTAL WOMAN?
# 5 = IF my theory about Jericho is right that would clear-up the reasons why he feels he has a right to all the fae hallows and why he is so ill-tempered. YOU WOULD BE TOO IF U HAD BEEN CHEATED OUT OF YOUR BIRTH RIGHT BECAUSE U WERE CONSIDERED A HALF-BREED.. NOT ALL FAE / NOT ALL MORTAL.

Well to answer that I was thinking that IF JB was indeed connected to Adam, taken at birth by a jealous or Vengeful enemy of Adam's, and given to someone to raise who was Druid or maybe raised by another Fae either way he would have been taught the ways of either and both knew how to travel to another time. Dageus nor Drustan took a potion so IF this theory could work maybe thats explains that?

- One more clue that V'Lane is Unseelie. I'm re-reading Spell, and in the part at the end with Aoibheal's internal reflections she says that 5 years in the future, the Unseelie Princes are once again satisfying their insatiable lust for mortal females - brutally raping, leaving mindless shells. And if this is a reflection on V'Lane (and others) then ... he f&^%king lied! Saying he came from Aoibheal and was concerned about Mac's safety. That he knew she has betrayed herself to one 'or more' Unseelie. i suspect that the Cuff of Cruce would protect her alright, from other Unseelie, but make her the slave of whoever gave her the bracelet. The last thing that troubles me is that JB knows V'Lane, and talked to him about Mac. I guess the only consollation is that when V'Lane talks to Mac in the Museum, he says - we know where you live. But he says it in a way that suggests it is not a place that he would 'go'. -- claudia_celestial_girl Poof, Ms Lane?, 23:28:01 05/24/07 Thu [8]

- OK. I have to check it out. I have just gotten a copy of Into the Dreaming, and will have to curl up with it to read. Maybe tonight. Adam is totally my fav. I love mischevious, playful, men. I don't know anything about teh King (so I have to read ITD), but from one of the teasers that KMM put into her newsletter, it seems that someone, and I'm guessing not the Lord Master, wants the last O'Conner Null dead at any cost, and that might be the King. - Aoibheal is Rowena??? -- claudia_celestial_girl Poof, Ms. Lane?, 16:40:05 05/25/07 Fri [8]
I've been thinking more about Aoibheal's comments at the end of Spell, about the Unseelie princes, and about herself manipulating things very carefully. The Old Lady at the Museum (who's name is Rowena, if I read the teaser's correctly) was shocked that Mac could resist V'Lane. That would be the correct reaction if 1) V'Lane is really Unseelie, 2) lied about representing Aoibheal, 3) Aoibheal didn't know about their earlier exchange, and if 4) Rowena was really Aoibheal in disquise, and watched the whole thing. I get the feeling that Aoibheal would be shocked that a mortal could resist an Unseelie prince bent on ravishing her (and it is pretty amazing, the more I think about it). It is also true that a matriarch of the O'Connor's would probably by shocked too, but I'm starting to get a weird feeling about this 'Old lady.' So she says - what are you, and she also says - who are you? She says you look like 'Patrona's' but I'd have known if you were. Who is your mother?
Now, below, someone mentioned that it's possible that Machayla and Alina were sent to a remote town in Georgia, as babies, to be protected. I whole-heartedly agree with that assessment. I think that is obvious. And what if they were protected from the whole Seelie Court? That whoever did it did a very good job? (So that the girls could grow up, and into their full powers?). The extreme shock of the Old Lady is starting to make me nervous that she really is Aoibheal, taken by surprise. Also I note that Mac's mom - Rainey Lane is sooooo down for the count, as if she has known all along that she needed to prevent the girls from going to Ireland.
Anyway. In the teaser it says that someone (presumably not the Lord Master, but more powerful? wants the O'Conner Null dead at all costs). This would hint that Mac's presence is a free parameter (as we say in science), something that wasn't counted on. An independent variable. I think JB's reaction to her also shows that Mac is a totally unexpected presence in this drama.
I'm also still thinking about Aoibheal's comments about the vault that was locked up by Silvan for 'bzillions of years. I have to reread all that. There is a connection to Cian ,and ancient lore that I don't get. What was it that Silvan had to lock away? I also don't get how the Keltar line was able to be sustained without the presence of Cian, so I have to dig a bit more into this stuff. ;-)
Happy Memorial Day, everybody!

- Where Aoibheal is and is not for FEVER -- Kells, 23:21:32 05/22/07 Tue [7]
At the end of Cian's story, we see the scene from the Queen's POV. It is mentioned that in the near future, the walls are down, the world is in chaos, and she herself is not sure where she is in that time.
So, what if . . . ?
If you read the novella on Karen's site, *Into the Dreaming*, it's implied that when the Light Queen and Dark King come together, it's all absorbing -- they are unaware themselves of time and other doings in the Tua De Realm. Are they elsewhere, busy with each other, and momentarily out of control of the Seelie world? If she's with the Dark King in the future, the power of that might be enough to block her own senses.
I need to re-read and double check, but I *thought* she commented that there were 5 players on the board, with one to go -- but not necessarily 5 MacKeltars. Big difference there.
1.) Cian and Jessie
2.) Drustan and Gwen
3.) Daegus and Chloe
4.) Adam and Gabby -- MacKeltar by association, and use of the Druid Binding vows. We know their daughter, Tess is likely a Sidhe-seer.
5.) MacKayla and (Jericho?) seems to be the most logical at this point. We'll have to stay tuned . . .
TTFN,
Kells

Hmmm. I was glancing at Adam's story today. Adam edited, added to, and essentially wrote his own version of a book about the Fae, via the O'Callaghan book about the Sin Schre Dubh. Wouldn't THAT be an excellent item of usefullness for Mac to find . . .

- Another thought on JB's Background -- Kells, 20:31:38 05/23/07 Wed [9]
We are told that the Fae can't recognize and sense their own OOPs. They can *handle* them, but not find them in an underground chamber crowded with religious artifacts, for instance.
AND --
JB does not know what to look for when in said chamber with ML, but recognizes it when she grabs it.
That implies he is at least half Fae doesn't it?
I also vaguely recall a reference to creatures that could travel foward in time, to a place they had not been in yet. The Tua De could only go from past to NOW, not tomorrow, if you understand the distinction. But even Adam though those other creatures were legendary. And Adam is only about 5000 years old, a 'mere child' by his race's standards.
So is that what Jericho is? (A Highlander? In the end, there can be only one . . . Wait, no, sorry. Wrong universe.) One of those mythical others? My sneaking suspicion is that, the scene where Mac senses JB is somewhere else simultaneously, and being almost used up, that some sort of parallel existence is going on.
On a tangent, isn't it interesting that the word SIMULTANEOUS contains the words, 'no time', and 'time is a lie' ?
;-)

- DEEP! I have to go write this down: 'No time' & 'Time is a Lie'. I've never been convinced that JB is Fae, half, quarter, or otherwise. But I've been thinking about the 'altogether different' aspect. In Dark Highlander, it is said that the 13 Druids called upon an ancient power that was neither Human nor Fae. So in this Universe, there are 'powers' beyond those of Fae or mortal that can be brought to bear. I'm not sure how the future time travel thing ties in, because if Jericho could travel into the future, then the story is over, isn't it? It may 'seem' that JB can shift spatially, in place, the way the Fae can. However I'm not certain we have all the data on that. He might have a certain magic. I'm also not certain why JB can't seem to touch The Spear. He can touch other Oops, just not that one. Is it because of its relation to Christ? (even though it pre-dates Christ). I forgot about that lapse in attention while they were meeting Malluce. -- claudia_celestial_girl Poof, Ms. Lane?, 21:20:12 05/23/07 Wed
- Confused: How come Adam knows and senses Seelie Hallows? What about JB walking around the Shades and UnSeelie Fae; is it because of is Celtic wrist band and torque which is black and silver. Adams torques was gold right? Because he is a prince.... And V'lane, I think he is UnSeelie Fae, very devious and how would he get the Cruce from the UnSeelie Fae to protect the concubine from assort dark Fae? So many questions... - Where is Jericho from? -- Kells (Happy), 19:40:43 05/22/07 Tue [5]
I've just finally got around to reading posts on this board. Nice to meet everyone. I started reading Karen when Adam's story appeared in paperback. I've been up to date ever since; and of course, went back and caught up.
'Nuff about me. My theory about Jericho is odd, but unusual theories don't seem to bother this group, so I'll speak up. I think Jericho's name is a real clue about his identity and past.
He comments, when Mac presses, that some of his background is Pict and Basque. The Picts were probably the Proto-Celts. Some of the early Celts came to the British Isles from Continental Europe -- the early Romans knew them as Gauls.
The Basque are a very unusual group, themselves. They have a language (Euskera) unlike any other in Europe, that has different roots. They live in the Pyrenees, the mountains on the border of Spain and France. Their own legends claim they are descended from Tubal-Cain, the grandson of Noah -- yes, as in 'Noah and the Ark'.
Jericho is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities on earth, located in what is now Jordan. And don't forget, we've already met the Rom in earlier Karen books. They too, are rumored to have come from the Middle East and migrated to Mediterranean Europe. ALL of these groups have, at one time or other, traveled the same ground.
So who, or what is Jericho? I dunno. But I think he is at least half-Fae. Whatever he is, I think he is the only / last / oldest of his kind. And I think he's remained neutral for a very long time, and has been more recently drawn into this battle.
That's my 2 cent's worth for now.
