Subject: theories

okay, i just introduced myself on the other board but i have to start asking questions on this one. i've been reading this board since DF came out. but i wondered (so many wonderful posts can't keep them all straight!) if anyone else had caught or mentioned what mac says on page 139 while they're meeting Malluce. "before long I would understand that nothing had been what it seemed that night, and the reason JB had faced off so cooly with the blood sucking master was because he'd gone in with quiet assurance that, no matter what happened, he would walk out alive, and not because he had malluce by the proverbial fiscal balls." So what does that mean to everyone else? btw, i personally love the theory that JB and Vlane are one and the same just night and day.

[> I definitely think it has a lot more to do with JB's "powers" than the fact that he froze the bank accounts of Malluce. I know that JB is very powerful, whatever he is, and he resents the fact (especially at first) that he actually needs Mac's help to locate the Fae items. -- Lynn (Cat), 18:34:28 01/01/07 Mon [1]

[> I agree with Lynn - I don't think his assurance came from the bank account thing - I think he knew he would walk out alive because he couldn't die. We have all mentioned at one time or another that JB seems to have lived a long time - much longer than his 30 or so years. He talks about the blessings of brevity to Mac (I think after the Gray Man kills that woman), like he has first hand experience with the hells of longevity. Anyway, those are my thoughts. I think he was risking Mac's life by taking her to Malluce, but little else, -- Kelli Jo, 19:30:05 01/01/07 Mon [1]

[> I'm still holding out on the hope that JB is a were (werewolf, werepanther, were-doesn't-matter-what) and that he went in there because he has the physical capabilities to handle himself with a mere undead guy. I don't think JB's too worried about vampires, he seems to care more about the idiocies of human beings and the danger of Fae as more important matters toward possible annihilation than a mere blood sucker. -- Annaline, 11:35:12 01/02/07 Tue [1]

[> Earlier the ladies have mentioned (as well as the book) about JB's Cuff on his arm - that it resembles the one that V'lane offered Mac...according to the definition - "this cuff can protect you from Unseelie and other...unsavory things" so maybe the cuff shields him from anything "evil -- ailleagan, 13:01:34 01/02/07 Tue [1]

[> V'lane & JB -- Nadean (Bellydancer), 18:52:55 01/02/07 Tue [1]

I agree, I think V'lane and JB are the same person....clearly, JB is a Fae of royalty, and V'lane was SO KIND to offer sex without retrobution and JB & V'lane obviously communicate....hmmmm...I'm hoping all the "superheros" will be brought in on the subsequent books to battle the Unseelie, how awesome would that be?

[> [> I agree with Kelli Jo and Nadean, JB can't be only 30ish. He seems to have too much knowledge for only a man in his 30's. But i dont think he's ONLY a man... And I too hope all the other heros will be brought in. -- K.J., 19:09:14 01/02/07 Tue [1]

[> Speculation on JB -- Ami, 13:51:17 01/03/07 Wed [1]

I think JB is a Vampire. I think he will eventually be a product of the Fae or "breed" that arose from the Fae & Human "interactions" over the eons. I sure wouldn't mind seeing the twins and Cian again either.
