In reply to: Lee in Darwin 's message, "Can anyone enlighten me as to 1) who all the Irish Dance Associations are (eg An Commision, AAIDT etc etc ).. 2) what are their differences, pros & cons? .. If your school is a member of one association and not another, do you know why the TC chose them over the another organisation? Can you be a member of more than one organisation? I really don't know much about who is who and what is what, but before our school commits to one or another of these associations I want to know that they can offer us the best support for our situation...we are remote from the rest of Austalia, and that makes us very remote indeed especially from the rest of the irish dance world. So I would love to hear your experiences and opinions on who is the best organisation and WHY or WHY NOT. You can email me privately if you prefer." on Fri, Mar 02 2007, 1:29:08

[> Different Organisations -- Teresa, Mon, Mar 05 2007, 14:10:16 [1]

OK: Basically the 2 main organisations are Commission and COmhdhail. To dance at either of their Feises you need to be a registered teacher with them. If you are registered with Commission, you cannot dance with Comhdhail and vice versa. Outside of these two organisations, there are several others, such as CRN, CDM, CAID, AAIDT, etc. For most of these you can affiliate to them, but they run on an Open Platform basis so that if you are say registered with CRN you can dance at a CDM Feis. But if you are registered with the above, or registered with no-one at all, you cannot compete at Commission or Comhdhail Feises. Technically, if you are Commission or Comhdhail, you might be able to compete at Open Platform Feises, but only with your teacher's permission and the Governing Bodies probably would not like it. There are a few Comhdhail teachers now in Australia, Grainne Leppard-Hamer (Ashgrove, Queensland) and Sanrda Mooney (Newport, NSW). Commission is very big in Australia.

[> [> Thanks Teresa .. this is the sort of info I was looking for. Up until your answer everyone had told me that Australia had only Commission. Which is fine in the southern states with lots of schools, but my state has well, me. So who are we even going to compete against? That was the basis of my enquiry as our situation is rather unique in the overall view of where schools are. Will not be making any decisions any time soon, but just need to know my options so I can check it out completely as to what is best for my dancers at this point in time. -- Lee in Darwin, Tue, Mar 06 2007, 0:00:22 [1]

[> [> [> [> yes please.. it would be interesting to hear their reasons for why they went with Comhdhail over CLRG. Just want to know all my facts before I dive in...email me if you prefer not to leave details on a public board. -- Lee in Darwin, Wed, Mar 07 2007, 1:34:11 [1]
