  althought i disagree with the academy placing 2nd after the obvious mistake made by one girl right at the beginning of the dance.
  but i suppose not everything is fair in the dancing world... althought i am so glad sem won both senior figures
  
  i have never seen such amazing exciting figures.. congratulations and come back next year ready to take the title again!

    • no one at the Academy has disagreed with SEM being the winners as far as I can see. The TC from the Academy happily congratulated them, and the dancers clapped them as the results were called, as anyone sat near to them in the audience will testify.     • You must have missed some of the recent posts. It has already been established that some (not all) of the SEM crowd in the audience were indeed Booing the Academy results quite loudly. This didn't come from Academy people as they were sitting on opposite sides of the arena, but rather from people sitting close to SEM. Everyone connected with SEM seems to look at ID through rose tainted glasses. Whatever you think anyone did to SEM it doesn't excuse such poor behaviour, particularly as you only know part of the story.         • No one on here has questioned either 1st placed results or the qualities of the dancing involved. While I accept that very few know the full story of all that took place at the worlds, the reality is that one school appears to have allowed itself a very public display of disapproval, and it is because of that any discussion has taken place. As such discussions which do not deteriorate into slagging matches or hearsay statements are allowed. The point raised is one of public etiquette and NOT of dancing, previous history or personalities, so any posts that deviate from that point shall be deleted and ip numbers may be stored for future reference. It should be noted that at present some of the most virulent attacks appear to have come from supporters of one specific side. My dd said that the SEM girls were extremely nice, & after spending so many hours sort of 'stuck' together, they were cheering each other on, rivalries put to rest.   • many teams do get along very well and make close friends... for example take doherty, carey and sem... they are always competing and sometimes it is very close between marks but they are constantly cheering each other.. so doesnt this make you think that the academy must have done something serious to make sem not clap.! and i must say that there was no one from sem booing the academy results because i was sat quite close to the area where sem were sat. there was a bit of talk as to how they got 2nd because of the mistake made but there was definately no booing!! and to be honest if sem dont want to clap the academy then they dont have to and it shouldnt cause such a fuss between everyone else because it doesnt effect anyone else!     • Public behaviour does affect others, both in terms of example and soliciting reactions. It is actually a case of good manners to at the very least politely acknowledge an opponent, no-one would expect whoops of delight or flag waving, but a polite two or three claps of the hands which takes a couple of seconds would have shown them in a more positive light.     • Much is being made of "the mistake" made. Obviously this was taken into account by the SEVEN individual adjudicators in their marking. As for every other team in the competition there wasn't one that was totally without fault, and all their errors were also taken into account, so why is everyone so keen to pick up on one mistake by The Academy. I was sat directly behind two AD's so could clearly see what they saw, and know what errors were made.   • Why oh why do these same threads keep going. I am sure throughout the competition there are many results that folk do or do not agree with. As a previous poster has already said two things here are certain.There was a public display of unsportsmanship. All the dancers in this competition worked extremely hard. Now I appeal to the better nature of some of the posters. How do you think that you are making this girl feel by singling out her mistake. This may be a senior competition but we all know that many of the dancers are still children. For heaven sake let it rest now or better still MOD remove the whole thread. She was not the only girl in this competition to make a mistake on a world stage and would be devestated enough without being publicly blamed for her mistake.     • A qualified TCRG still has to be registered, by paying their registration fee. That doesn't mean they are not recognised as a new TCRG in the school. As far as AC are concerned the only difference between Registered and non-registered is that their dancers cannot compete under their name The full rule is inside and you should note it just says Teacher not Registered Teacher. In all of the other rules relating to TCRG it specifically refers to Registered, so I assume this rule covers non-registered TCRG as well. I know i shouldn't winge but I am in ID so........... Dissappointed there was only one judge for non-recall sets, I am so glad it worked as this was a feis I was looking forward to because of the different judging set up, well done to all organisers. Dont think it will happened too often because of the amount of organising it must have taken, but thank you McLees for giving us a good feis, I hope you will consider running the same again and that maybe other feis may give it a go, and thanks to all helpers I came across who were always pleasent and helpful. If there were members of CLRG who were convicted child molesters and were allowed to continue working for the organisation - I certainly would leave the organisation, and I would certainly suggest it wasn't promoted on websites. Surely, we would all expect that the organisation would ask those members to leave?? Which is why I have an issue with you or other websites promoting WIDA as an organisation. Is the organisation not stating, by working along side this man, that they are happy for paedophiles to work within their team?
  
  I do not tar all the teachers of this organisation with the same brush. But I do question their lack of action on this matter. I am a member of CLRG - and if another member was a convicted paedophile - I would push for that person to be out of the organisation. I would not be associated with an organisation that tolerated such members. So why are these teachers happy to be associated with an organisation that allows anyone to teach for them? Child protection is paramount. When you sit a TCRG exam you are police checked.
  
  What are the legal requirements for teachers involved with WIDA? That they are open and honest about their past?!
  There are certain standards that parents expect. If any tom dick or harry is allowed to teach their child - because the organisation doesn't have standards - they need to be informed. IF the organisation doesn't run a police check, it needs to be closed and certainly should not be advertised.

As previously stated some European countries don't have a paedophile register and therefore do not require police checks. • Just observing that in some regions in particular age groups I only recognise the top two qualifyers and in some cases only 2 or 3 schools really feature in results. In the SR and the midlands, there is such a large number of schools and top dancers, a lot of these do not qualify. It is difficult to accept that when some of these dancers recall at every feis (top ten) and would normally come ahead of some dancers who qualify every year due to their small region. BTW you can't rely on the BN's as a secondary qualifyer. London alone houses almost 20% of the countrys population so it stands to reason there should be a higher ratio of qualifying. I know it is due to entry numbers but to win out of intermediate in SR is excruciatingly hard (high numbers and only 1st place moves up). I'm not putting anyone down but just think it makes sense when we see results and we know it is a travesty some people should be competing at the worlds, and others are very lucky due to geography! -- What do we think?   • I totally agreeabout the S.R. My dd recalls very regularly now at regional feises and the majors but has not qualified and feels she never will. There are such a high number of top dancers in the S.R. in her age group. Also it is frustrating for her when she sees girls qualify from other regions that she has placed higher than many times. Don't begrudge anyone their place at the Worlds, just wish she had more chance of reaching her goal. Maybe we should take her to the All Irelands instead and see how she fares.   • as a dancr from one of the smallest regions, I agree to a degree. There are some qualifiers who would not make it in other regions. However, I have to say it's no fun dancing against yourself or 1 other person! What I try to do is qualify at BN's or GB's so that I know I've really earned my place. Even though we're small, we do have 2 particularly strong age groups with dancers not qualifying who regularly place high at majors. • Really enjoyed GBs this year. Brighton was fantastic, maybe I'm not critical enough, but thought the venue was fine, halls all under one roof and once I got the hang of the place they were all easy to get to.   • Yup my kids had a fab time, walking along the beach and the pier, Hotel was brilliant and warm with decent food, Pointins held no fun for us.   • It is no different than the competetive Ballet world, children there are also pushed way beyond what their under developed muscles and tendons should really do. I am also an ex professional ballet dancer, the one thing I will say in the favour of ID is there is no forced sustained turnout that does so much harm to young ballet dancers.       • I am the poster above, I have taught ID and Ballet and the emphasis is different . If a Ballet dancer did hop two three's, the underneath leg would be turned out to the side. There are no adage movements in ID where a strong, sustained turnout is required. If your DD is at a competetive Ballet school, which was what I was refering to in my post, her turnout would be being forced more than in an ID class. Because as in ID they want the finished artical from their dancers at a very young age. This is what I feel does more damage to young joints than anything else. Hence my comments above. Your DD must go to a Ballet school that does not enter that many, if any festivals or she would find the lesson structure to be the same as her ID class. After my chat with my friend, I thought that we must be really archaic in ID.
