I was the volunteer person doing the marks at the Coventry feis. If I could change what happened I would. It was a human error. In one competition two dancers withdrew and when they were removed the computer program moved their zero marks down to the next competitor, I don't know why. In the other competition the set marks for one adjudicator were entered in the wrong column and not included in the calculation. As far as I was aware the marks were corrected and republished - I wasn't aware that there was still a problem. Our teacher apologised on behalf of the office, the marks money was refunded and the entry fee for the dancers who were badly affected. I also offer my most sincere apologies. No-one wants to make a mistake and no-one wants to hurt any dancer, I wish it had never happened but it did and I have to live with it. I am just sorry that our TC is suffering from the fallout and hope that this hasn't damaged our reputation, it wasn't her fault. All the parents involved tried their very best to run a nice feis, with reasonable food, fair judges, a decent venue and clean toilets - and I hope that people come back next year and can forgive the two mistakes that were made. Some people have made nice comments on the other board - even a parent of a child who was affected - this is some small comfort but as a parent of dancers I do understand why the parents and the dancers affected feel aggrieved. It is difficult to know what to do to make things better?

[> [> Thank you so much for taking the time to explain the problems, I'm sure that no-one felt this was anything but a very unfortunate mistake. As you said most people did understand and I believe all comments I had read about the feis had been positive. To err is human................ I was unable to attend the feis this year but I hope to attend next year, as I'm sure many will. -- MOD, Tue, Jun 19 2007, 22:09:03 [1]

[> [> [> Coventry u13 marks -- Anne Leach and daughter Jess, Wed, Jun 20 2007, 0:16:33 [1]

Thank you to the marks volunteer who came online to apologise. It was my daughter who was given the 5th place on Sunday which was then altered to 7th. It was very upsetting and a bit humiliating - it would have been her first top 5 place so meant a lot. Still, when we saw the full results sheets, she did place 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in some solos,so she still got her best placings ever and was delighted with herself.

Everyone involved was very sweet and sensitive to us and the matter is now forgotten as far as we are concerned. It was a lovely feis and I would certainly attend again.

[> [> [> [> [> Thats so nice of you to explain it Gill. I don't think it has reflected badly on the feis, from what I have read this feis is turning out to be very popular & well run, particularly as its one of the few now left running in Midlands, shame we couldn't attend this year. I hope this has not put Jenny off holding it again next year or any of you volunteers. -- storm, Thu, Jun 21 2007, 22:34:58 [1]
