Author: an extremely ticked off parent and child.
Subject: I need to have a rant. We made a bad decision to attend St Bernadettes fesi. Don't get me wrong nice venue. Weird results in many age groups especially solo results. However in one of the age groups the Highly recommended 14 dancers in their solo results. That was after it was pointed out that 14 of these dancers hadn't placed at all. What were these people thinking? Would it have been so hard to work out the oher 14 palces? The dance Drama was beautiful. However must say next year I'll donate the entry fee and not allow my child to be humiliated. End of rant.

[> Speaking from the other end of the spectrum my young dancer is in beginner and primary and we really enjoyed this feis despite the late running. The older gentleman who gave out the results on sunday in the sports hall really made the kids feel special. Especially letting the winner read their own number out via the mic. Myself and lots of other parents felt this was a really nice touch! -- Will be returning next year!, Mon, Mar 26 2007, 14:01:17 [1]

[> I guess I don't understand your complaint. Highly recommended? What's that? Is this a different regional award, or ? -- Confoozled, Tue, Mar 27 2007, 15:33:20 [1]

[> The placings are given out and then ' all the other dancers are highly commended' -- does this help, Thu, Mar 29 2007, 22:50:47 [1]

[> works well for young ones.. might be annoying for older kids trying to work out what they need to improve? Overall a good system as all dancers should be commended for just getting up there - its not as esy as you think to get up and perform. -- Lee in Darwin, Fri, Mar 30 2007, 9:03:01 [1]

[> Wow, thungs are definitely different here in the US as I have no idea what this post is even talking about. We don't have "highly recommended dancers" here, you win or you don't. -- baffled, Fri, Mar 30 2007, 18:50:42 [1]

[> [> It is Highly COMMENDED not Recommended. It is a medal of commendation and is given to dancers who did not place. Good for the little ones because everyone gets something for taking part. In regards to winning it's the same here in the U.K, there can only be one winner!! -- fyi, Fri, Mar 30 2007, 19:04:47 [1]

[> [> [> Our local Eisteddfod has 1st place (tiny trophy) and then one or two Highly Commended places (certificate)... for anyone else in the section it is just the adjudication sheet...regardless of age they all get the same. -- Lee in Darwin, Sat, Mar 31 2007, 6:05:17 [1]

[> I love the description my friend tgave Highly reccommended. (Thanks for coming). For the beginners especially the little ones it's a brill idea but for open dancers. I personally think it's an insult -- imo, Sat, Mar 31 2007, 18:39:29 [1]
