Don't know how true this is, but I remember some years back being told, the leaves were added and differed in shape over alternate years as a way of telling if a person had bought a new poopy for that year or was wearing one from a previous year.

I always donate to the poppy appeal, but get sent the Canadian ones as they are a lot nicer. I also buy a MN wreath to lay at the local cenotaph every year. Until I starterd doing it seven years ago, there was no MN representative in the town.
