Date Posted: 18/03/08 6:50am In reply to: Frank Appleford 's message, "HMAS Sydney has been found" on 17/03/08 3:14am I have the Book called the Raider Kormoran written by the Captain of the German Raider his name Captain Theodor Detmers, this book was written in 1959 and gives the approx position that Kormoran engaged the Sydney, so why did it take so long to find the ship and why wasnt Captain Detmers believed, when he told Australian Naval Officers interviewing him after the action that he believed he had sunk a Battle Cruiser but did not know the name of it. I believe I have the only book in Australia written by the German Captain. I always believed the Captains honesty in his report and in his book, and yet there were all sorts of rumours that a japanese sub had got the sydney which just wasnt true. The only question that would be truly valid is why the Australian Cruiser Sydney came broadsides to the Kormoran which it did and became the Target of a very powerfully armed German Raider formally a German merchant Navy Cargo ship. My best to everyone but the truth has been there all the time in the Book the Raider Kormoran. Glenn [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
