Date Posted: 19/03/08 11:26am In reply to: Frank Appleford 's message, "HMAS Sydney has been found" on 17/03/08 3:14am Yeh well He wrote a book allright and even gave the position of the Action with the Austraian Cruiser, If you go to E bay or some of the reputable Book collectors there is the odd one or two for sale around the World, The Publisher was William Kimberand it was translated from German to English in 1959.Yes there were all sorts of rumours about a Japanese sub, not true, I have a fair idea why some of these stories were around, because as i said it was a Broadside Action and very close and maybe questions were asked why the action was so close. Never the less Captain Detmers book is very acurate and as i saidhe even gave a position 111east by 26degree,s 34 minutes South. If I managed to lay my hands on the book which i still have in my possesion, then I have often wondered why the aust govt didnt know or had a reason for not knowing. As long as i get my book back Ill even send it for perusal, because it is quite valuable as a collectors Item. One thing for sure I had no reason to distrust the information in the book because he even states the other ships he sank as well . all the best Glenn [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
