SALTWICK was a cargo ship owned by Rowland & Marwood, which was part of Headlam & Sons, which were based at Whitby - - i.e. it was registered at Whitby

The ss Saltwick, 3775 tons was built at Deptford in 1929 for Headlam and Sons of Whitby North Yorkshire and was sunk by torpedo from aircraft 21st October 1943. There is a mention of a steamship Saltwick at the Manchester ship canal in the 1930s after a voyage from Finland, The Manchester Council Records say they have a photograph of ss Saltwick in the ship canal.
If you google steamship Saltwick it will give you the website for the Manchester ship canal records.
An added piece of info is that ss Saltwick was grounded at Peterhead in Scotland in early 1943 and 34 crew were rescued by the Peterhead Lifeboat .

Cheers
Vernon
