Hi Alf, we went over to Lyttelton last week on the new ferry (very fast) and pointed out places we used to visit to our friends. One of the best memories was our swimming days down at the whalves. Every ship that docked there was a 'target' for us kids and if there was a rope ladder over the side, that was it, we were up it, got tea and tab nabs then dived off.Tried to 'sell' my big sisters and made dates for them at the dances at the Bakehouse Ball.I have been reading mail about members who were crew on the D.M. I remember the first time I saw her, we nearly died! Had never seen so many good looking boys in one place at the same time. We were in heaven!
My husband has just been give a DVD that may interest someone. It has snippets of the history of different ports in NZ but you catch glipses of some of the old ships that used to visit. Even has the Gothic leaving Bluff with the queen when she was very young. If anyone would like it I could probably get it copied.
