Date Posted: 20/02/08 2:19pm In reply to: Jenny Hinds 's message, "Re: merchant seamen" on 13/02/08 11:46pm jenny, sorry to bust in on your posts with dear old alf,but in one of your posts it mentions 1958/59. i was on my first trip to sea in 1958 and did a double shunt to new zealand. i was on the cargo ship m.v. tyrone as a pantry boy,i was away from home for nearly a year. we arrived in auckland on 31/10/58 sailed around the coast and left auckland for the states on 30/12/58.christmas in auckland,i will never forget.girls for christmas.wow. after visiting the states we were back in new zealand arriving in auckland 02/04/59 again around the coastal ports and we finally left bluff on 19/05/59 for home. of all the countries i have been to,new zealand is the only country that has given me a lasting impression of the good life.new zealand is often in my thoughts,so much so,that i have just bought the double dvd of billy connelys world tour of new zealand. i am now looking for other dvds of new zealand to bring back more memories. from a young (old) seaman. all the best mike in sunny maidstone [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
