g'day john. the UK RNLI is probably the best in the world
especially as it now has the co-operation of various other
charities plus helicopter organisations including the RAF.
sadly i believe that what lighthouses we have are now automatic, and with the demise of the morse code we need all these organisations. what you don't hear a lot about are the lifegaurds(quite a few aussies) and surf clubs who save a fair few lives here in devon & cornwall. cheers. alf
