The FREEMAN HATCH was one of the small "Jeep" ships built in the USA. 1,791 gross tons, 258.9ft x 42.1ft. Completed Dec.1942 by Leatham D. Smith Shipbuilding Co, Sturgeon Bay, Wis., she was chartered to the British Ministry of War Transport. 1950 renamed CHARLES M for Mercantile Supply Co, London, 1953 sold, renamed HOUSTON, 17.4.1961 Sunk in Bay of Cochinos during the anti-Castro invasion of Cuba.
