Date Posted: 24/02/08 11:50am In reply to: Angus Macdonald 's message, "committee's" on 18/02/08 9:28pm The N.U.S. must have been worth a few Million pounds, and quite a few pockets must have been Lined, I still have no idea of what happened to all the Union Fee,s because I did my last British voyage in 1972 and never returned to the UK.When I signed Articles I decided to pull a swifty and put my Home address as Auckland new Zealand, so after many months of Tramping on my last Voyage The Captain payed me off in Geraldton Western Australia to go Home to NZ.wasnt I lucky.Quite a few others Jumped ship on the same Voyage and were replaced by chaps flown out.I gave the Captain a simple explanation I just said I had no intention of returning to the UK, and my home address was NZ, so I guess all the changes must have taken place about that time in the UK Multi Skilling and all that sort of thing.I always thought the N.U.S. were pretty useless and yet they waited on sign ups to make sure you were paid up etc I sort of wonered if even then that money even got back to the N.U.S. office because once you were at sea who was going to check.
