Date Posted: 24/02/08 11:47pm In reply to: Angus Macdonald 's message, "committee's" on 18/02/08 9:28pm During the seamans strike, which I think was 1966, we docked in Le Havre only to be met by NUS officials who wanted all members to support the union action, which we all agreed to although I must say some more relucant than others. The question then arose how do we get home from Le Havre. They told us that arrangements could be made to get us across the channel on one of the French ferries. When we asked how do we get from Dover to Liverpool or any other place for that matter, we were told we could hitch a lift from one of the trucks that was going up north. Needless to say any support the lads had disappeared. What these officials spent our money on, God alone knows.. And what about the Seamans Reform Movement we had in Liverpool, head guy Paddy Neary. They really were a classic. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
