My last ship on the coast was the Karu, one of their oldest a rust bucket on the East coast run Auckland to Bluff. We held her up in Auckland for a washing machine, the Union Co sold her for scrap and paid us off. I think she sunk on the way to Japan, would have happened sooner rather than later. Lot of characters on the coast. I'm just reading "The Black Prince" about Finton Patrick Walsh, run the Seamens Union for years,do you remember him? had a few run ins with him.when I was delegate, tried to sell us out a few times.
