Hello and happy pageant week!

I am looking forward to a fun week, as all of you are. Please keep the visits and commentary coming!

I thought long and hard about this, because those of you who have been reading this board know how much I love commenting on the pageant. This year, the cost to watch preliminaries has gone up to $199. I suppose if you are looking at that, it's not bad for two pageants. The problem is that not all of us will be watching both. I mentioned this in January, but in case you might have missed it, I am getting my doctorate degree. I am really excited about it, and it's a lot of hard work. I just started classes for the fall semester. Tonight will be my third night in the one class, tomorrow the fourth. Nobody is fooling around at this level. It is not as if students do not occasionally play cards or text someone, but it is not a good look if you are distracted. So, I wouldn't be able to see the competition live.

I could conceivably watch it later IF it was worth paying $199 for to watch just the Miss preliminaries. It is not, sadly. The competitions are rushed through without any breaks, there is little to no entertainment. You didn't have the best seats, but you could attend three nights of preliminaries in AC for around the same cost or less before they left. I feel like they are sticking it to those who cannot attend in person or people like me who are longtime fans and supporters. And I am not going to do it. From what I have read on the Guru board, PageantVision is very strict with their coverage, nothing is allowed to be filmed. It seemed like some people were going to pull their resources and share the cost, which is a very good idea. Apparently you were only allowed one login and you can only go back and watch it until 2 days after the pageant is over. Furthermore, what they are charging families is RIDICULOUS. If you want a digital copy of your performance, it is only your performance which can be uploaded to a Google Drive. The cost? $449. If you want your own interview, it is another $179 and $229 if you want the top 5 interviews. In contrast, you used to be able to purchase SS/EG for $50 and talent for $75 of every single performance. The representative interview was $50. I realize costs have gone up but this is ridiculous. Everyone should be rightfully angered about these turn of events. I think everyone is being taken advantage of.

I am very disappointed as I know many of you will be who have visited, read and commentated. If the cost goes down next year I will gladly continue what I do. What MAO fails to address is that Volunteer preliminaries are free of charge, USA puts theirs up the day after. Yes, there are royalties but Volunteer with less resources makes it happen.

This doesn't mean I won't be following along and have a lot of thoughts! I especially want to hear about your state representatives and I will absolutely be here final night. I am just really sad that it has come to this. I suppose it was inevitable, but I cannot justify that kind of money.
