Happy Miss America Day!

I am excited! In a little over 6 hours, we get to meet the top 10 and our new Miss America. It should be a great night of competition. I am excited that Billy Gilman is hosting. I have liked him ever since I heard him as a child singing a charming Christmas song, "Warm and Fuzzy." Check it out if not now, then definitely during the holiday season.

There's always a lot of focus on the preliminary winners. Last year I predicted one of the preliminary winners to win because they were all strong candidates. At the end, Abbie, who did not win a preliminary, won. Fans/family members become discouraged when their favorite does not win a preliminary. But do not despair! I am going to make a list going back over the last 10 Miss Americas, starting with Kira, because there was no pageant in 2020.

2014 Kira-no preliminary wins
2015 Betty-preliminary talent
2016 Savvy-preliminary talent
2017 Cara-no preliminary wins
2018 Nia-no preliminary wins
2019 Camille-preliminary talent
2021-Emma-preliminary onstage question
2022-Grace-preliminary talent (and I think onstage question but I can't remember)
2023-Madison-no preliminary wins
2024-Abbie-no preliminary wins

So, as you can see, there is a 50 percent chance that your favorite can be Miss America. Also, the talent winners will probably be given serious consideration as preliminary talent does seem to be a trend. The last time a fitness preliminary winner won was Katie Stam in 2009. It does seem like a more overall trend that consistency wins the crown. If your candidate is strong and consistent across the board, she's got a great chance. I am looking for the well-rounded contestants to rise to the top tonight.

Usually, you get a blend of about 2/3 winners/non in the top 5. Some years there have been only 1 preliminary winner and 4 nons in the top 5, including 2014 in Kira's year.

So yes, your favorite is very much in contention going into tonight. Stay tuned!
