Our exciting and challenging course is designed for dance students and teachers who are serious about improving their technique and professional knowledge. We offer an invigorating and refreshing approach to Irish Dance for current Irish Dancers, Irish Dance teachers and other Dance teachers wanting to broaden their spectrum

A master dance class is a class given to dancers/teachers by very accomplished dancers/teachers in order to improve technical skills. Master teachers are often company directors, company members, choreographers or rehearsal assistants. Master classes offer advanced students the opportunity to learn from experts. Master dance classes build strength and bring your focus back to building technique.

Taking a master class lets you see first-hand what new teachers have to offer, and also gives you an opportunity to dance alongside a roomful of unfamiliar faces. Smart dancers constantly look for ways to improve.

Session I: 4 and 8 hand dances Session II: Two Traditional Solo Sets.
Dancing on sprung wooden floor with Marley.

Registration is limited to 24 participants ($50.00) and 15 auditors ($25.00)
Prizes for first 5 to register and pay!

One of my pet peeves has been the "family entry fee" even if a person is attending alone. Here's a quote from the Nation's Capital Feis entry form: "Saturday SINGLE Adult competitors who enter through Feisworx will receive a $20 refund when they receive their number at the Feis Desk".

Laureen O'Neill-James confirmed that. So, those of us who enter alone will pay the $20 up front but will get it back when we check in.

We never have (we've only done our Oireachtas) but I'd love to hear who's going. And do you do any fundraising? Money is a big reason why we never manage to get a team to go. I'd love to, though.

I just wanted to share this video. I dance for Clann Na Cara in Buffalo, NY, and we have a rapidly growing adult group. When I started at CNC two years ago, there were only a handful of adults dancing regularly each week. Now, we have at least 20 dancers showing up for class each week!

My teachers were kind enough to invite our adult group to perform at the school's annual fundraiser pub night. Some of us danced as children and have been retired from comps for 5+ years; others of us are complete beginners.

I choreographed this fun performance to suit the abilities of all our adults. Unfortunately, I was not able to actually attend the show, but the dancers recorded it for me.

Here's the link to the performance on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd4JpLWu6RI&sns=em

Very proud of them on a job well done :)

There was a question posted on dance.net asking about adult dancers and the five year rule. Apparently, there is almost no mention of it anymore in the official rules. Also, someone said that it was being phased out because now that adults can dance slow-speeds, there may be adults who dropped down who may want to re-enter adult levels. Thoughts?

Does anyone happen to have an idea on how one might get the elastic bungee thread back thru the net hem on the bun wigs?

An Oireachtas Prayer -- from Ryan Dunns website, 14:19:19 11/21/12 Wed
An Oireachtas Prayer

Good and Gracious God,
We place ourselves in your presence and invite
your Spirit as we begin this year's Oireachtas.
We have practiced.
We have rehearsed.
We have sacrificed for the love of Irish dance.
We have invested time and money and effort.
Lord, we ask only that you help us to do our best this Day.
May we remember that underneath
the wigs, the dresses, the sparkles, the make-up, and the sock glue
that we dance with bodies and talents you gave us.
With every click and every treble, O Lord,
may we give you glory
and celebrate the the gift of our teachers
who have shown us how to dance.

Lord, in twenty years, it will be hard to recall how we placed.
Time will have faded our memories of where we stood on the podium
or what medal we took home.
We will remember, though, the good times we have shared
and we will tell with delight the stories we remember.
Bless this weekend, Bless our dancing,
and bless those who have given us the gift of Irish dance.

May we all dance today as we hope to dance in eternity:
members of the heavenly ceili
dancing to You, the music of our lives.

We pray this through Christ our Lord,
our Teacher, our Musician, our Music, and our Metronome.

Amen.

Ryan danced as a child along with his sisters in the MWR and then used his talents as a feis musician to share the dance with future generations but he is also a Priest and shares another spirit to all.

The Patent Pump irish dance shoe - brand new to the market - first introduced at the North American Irish Dance Championships - worn by the top dancers in the world and several winners at the Nationals. Beautiful conforming style to enhance the arch and heel area. Nice short toe and VERY shiny especially when the lights are good in the hall. Wear for stage performance and competition. They are sure to catch the judge's eye. A great compliment to your regular leather Cavan Pumps. Sizing runs 1/2 size larger than a good tight fitting pair of Cavan Pumps as they do not stretch quite the same.

I'm offering all the traditional set dances at the current speeds for $5 until the first week of December. You can order the TradPac from the Order Music page on my site www.markarringtonmusic.com. I also have all the ceili dances on iTunes for 99 cents. They're extra long in case you need them for an actual ceili, not just a competition. If you're looking for my version of The Three Tunes you have to search iTunes for "3 Tunes 113" or just search on me and click on "All Songs". If you want Humors of Bandon make sure you get the one at 115 from Feis Favorites, not the contemporary set dance version on Kick It Up A Notch.

Best of luck at the Oireachtas!

Congrats to all who competed! This is a fantastic turnout; if we have any UK readers, can anyone tell us anything about this competition? Have any North American teams ever gone? I'd love to hear more about this, who danced what, etc. This is great for adults!

I live in the Central USA and am currently contemplating buying a used pair of hardshoes from the UK. Does anyone have an idea of what it would cost to ship them over here? I will have to pay for shipping, and it may affect if I can afford them or not. Thanks!

I'm giving away these set dances that have fallen out of favor in the past few years. Hopefully some of you will give them a try and shock the judges and audience out of their glazed look after having seen the same set dance 25 times in a row! Choose any or all of the following at these speeds: Youghal Harbor 76 bpm, Rodney's Glory 108, Hurling Boys 70, Rub The Bag 70, Orange Rogue 70. Just email me at mark@markarringtonmusic.com and I'll send them over. Also on my site, check out the "3 rounds for $3 special" until Oireachtas time!

It's that time of year again! Which Mid-Atlantic dancers will be going to Philadelphia to compete in the adults comps at oireachtas? Last year, I drove solo to dance the trad sets. This year, my school's adults will be competing in the ceili comps, and I'm soooooo excited.

Hope to see many of you there!

Lots of great items are listed daily. Just thought to get the word out again about the site.
The goal of this site is to help out the ID community. There are already so many expenses - and you shouldn't have to have one more expense just to sell your dress!

Hello fellow dancing adults.

I was just perusing the numbers for our feis this year and noticed the adult numbers are not what I hoped they would be. The Rhythm of Ireland Feis loves our adult dancers and hopes you'll come to beautiful Williamsburg and enjoy the weekend with us.

I sponsor a perpeual cup (traditional set Beg/AB) in memory of my beloved mother who encouraged me when I got the strange idea to start Irish dancing at 39 years of age. We are offering slows in hornpipe and treble jig, too!

I know this is late notice, but I'm announcing it anyways!

The Crossroads Feis is October 12-13, 2012 in Lehi, Utah (25 min south of the airport).

Why would I go to a feis in Utah? You ask.

For our new Adult Triple Threat Competition on Friday Night!
3 Rounds combined to give a final overall score:
Adults must dance 32 bars of either a reel or a slip jig, 32 bars of either a treble jig or a hornpipe and one of the followingtraditional sets: Job of Journeywork, Garden of Daisies King of the Fairies
Podium ceremony and Sashes to be awarded!

Also, there is a "Blind Man Special" open to all dancers at the feis: One treble reel step down the line and Judge will be separated from competitors by a screen.

Come join us for a great feis!

Here are 3 reasons to take advantage of my "3 rounds for 3 dollars" special:
♫ The tunes are the same number of bars of music as your dances and end exactly when your steps do.
♫ They sound different than your other dance practice music with fiddle, mandolin, banjo, whistle, guitar, and bodhran. The arrangements are varied.
♫ It's cheaper and lasts longer than a gallon of gas!

The special is your soft shoe and hard shoe dance once through from Champtrax and your set dance at any speed, including the new Vanishing Lake and Charlady. You order them on my site and when you go to check out you type in the tunes you need.

Happy practicing!

It seems to be thorough and fair, evaluating a lot of features we should be looking at no matter what brand of shoes we're considering:

It is the 3rd or 4th response, I think.

Syllabus says REEL, not jig
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 20:54:40 08/24/12 Fri

Hi MARO adult dancers,

My teacher informed us today that the Midatlantic Region Oireachtas syllabus indicates that adults will dance the 4-hand REEL this year. As far as I'd heard, Humours of Bandon (jig) was the dance everyone was expecting.

My teacher has emailed oireachtas representatives to confirm this, and we're waiting to hear the official work.

Anyone else's teacher confirm/deny the 4-hand reel rumor? I'll post if I hear anything additional from my teacher.
